The Cheaper Alternative To Leaving The West Behind

Slowtravel is an alternative to full time expat life where you relocate to another country and buy a property or rent . To do this, you need to have sufficient capital. What's the more economical alternative to expat living full time then? Can it be done through biketouring, can you mix it? Check my thoughts on the matter on this short video. So Beautiful Montevideo! 💙
Yes sir, indeed. Appreciate the comment
First I thought they were oil rig platforms, but now I am guessing they were silo elevators in a distant harbor for loading and offloading ships of grain, raw chemicals, or ore I think. As for the tent, yeah you are missing a crossbar snap piece that locks those two bars together and strengthens the structure. You are missing the outer shell, just get yourself a good tarp, the bigger the better. As long as it has tie down ringlets or grommets, and buy some extra stakes and lines. That should work fine, and even give a protected area to hide your bike and gear under in bad weather as well as protecting the tent. You didn't show the tent pegs but I know there are special pegs for securing a tent on snow, I am guessing there might be something similar for beach sand. As I said that is a guess. Try a couple of hardware stores rather then camping stores. Might find what you need at cheaper prices, if you know the make and model of that tent, you might even be able to get the missing piece. Good luck! Nothing kills a camping trip like bad equipment so get the kinks worked out before you commit to a serious trek! At least that is my suggestion. 👍
Thanks man for the tips! Will look into those things, maybe I can get that crossbar part. The tent pegs were the standard ones meant to be used on ground or grassy areas. I think they might stay put in place in the sand, but wind can be brutal at times, so I'm not 100% sure. I'll show the hardware store clerk the pegs I have, and see if he can suggest something better. I'll def have to get that tent working right if I want to have proper sleep. I've seen some people sleep in the open (don't remember what the special sleeping bag they used for that) and that seemed to be a easier setup, but you're exposed. Yeah I also thought they were oil rigs, but I never seen one like that before, so you're probably right that they might be some kind of silo elevator as there's some island or something there. Wished I had a tripod so I could zoom in further lol
@@MotionPictureTrips You are welcome, yeah that is why I thought curvature of Earth and you were seeing a very distant silo in a harbour somewhere. Never seen oil platforms that look like that. Unless maybe an offshore station for loading and unloading tankers? Your pegs should be okay just depends on the sand, but for sure check with local campers! Those campers going without a tent, usually have a Bivy bag. Which if your budget allows is not a bad idea even with the tent. The bags are waterproof, help hold in body heat, help keep bugs out, and if they are big enough. You can stuff your sleeping bag and whatever you are using as a mattress into them. Most of them usually carry tarps as well, but have seen the ones who just use a Bivy rig. I am guessing you have got some waterproof bags for your electronics? Maybe instead of a tripod, some walking sticks for hiking? With the right mounting clamps on the camera. Just attach the camera for recording . Can also use them as extra tent poles for the tarp. Not sure if tripods are more expensive or not then hiking sticks.
@@doberski6855 I know there's an island somewhere there, I forget the name of, but maybe that's where it is based. Now you got me intrigued I need to find out lol It's also fascinating to see the curvature of the earth, that station is probably 30+ miles away. That's what I love about simple expeditions, so much cool stuff to see. That''s it, the bivy bag! I might get one perhaps for my trip in Europe, but here they're probably way too expensive due to import taxes. But this thing sounds like it could come in handy in certain places like the beach. The panier I have is wet proof, and I'll keep the electronics in a backpack inside of it. That should keep them pretty dry, but will take a trash bag just in case it rains. Might be able to find some stick or something I could use as a stick for the camera and also for my bike. :D

Nice to spend time with your friends Lucas, and Erica again! I agree with Erica trying street food just before embarking on a trip. Maybe not the best idea! 😂 Hope they have a safe time, on their roundabout voyage back to the states!
lol she cracked me up with that thankfully we were fine. The hot dog was not too bad, but we could've probably gotten something better elsewhere. I plan to do some videos eating at some of these street vending carts. :)
@@MotionPictureTrips Have had some good experiences getting food from carts and shacks near beaches and at steetside sites. Look forward to your reviews of the selections in Uruguay.
@@doberski6855 Indeed, the majority of them are fine and it's cheap food too.

Yeah those streets and sidewalks you were riding over. Could really see how those would chew through tires with ease. Still great to see another bike tour of Monte Video! Thanks for taking us along sir.
Appreciated man. They do, the trees root do a lot of damage too. Some men are into Max Maxxing to improve their appeareance. I am into Mad Maxing to make my bike a monster gravel vehicle. Which is why I think I'm gonna start calling her 'USS Mad Max'.

Good to see your comment man. Thanks for coming by!
@@MotionPictureTrips Certainly 🙂

Superb bit of beach, and a very pretty ride. Surprised Montevideo doesn't do a better job maintaining the beach area, or maybe they focus on the sections around the hotels? Not a fan of spiders and their webs either. Had a few experiences when hiking and camping, walking along and walk right through a web strung across a trail. Never fun! Thanks for sharing the experience with us!
Glad you like it! Yes, it's disappointing. I wonder if they'll clean it come summer. I know if you go East, they do a better job, but Montevideo isn't that clean unfortunately. This section of the beach stretches for 50 miles though, so hopefully it's cleaner. I want to ride it all the way, might find out soon!
Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing this with us. 😊
Thanks for the comment man! Yeah, I never expected to have fun at the beach (don't like sand) but this was a blast. Felt like a kid
@@MotionPictureTrips I'm glad you had a good time. 🙂
Por suerte las palmeras no fueron atacadas por el virus del picudo!!
Es un museo oceanográfico, frente a la Playa del Buceo
Thanks for letting me know! Also thanks to Google Translate so I could read your comment!😂
Was that a Mosque off in the distance at the beginning of the video? The beach is beautiful, and a nice choice for a ride. Although I wonder if a 'fat' bike tire might be a better choice for that environment, also for long range driving as well. Just like your bike, sometimes ideas for content and channel go flat and you have to fix the situation. (By the way, had the same type of air pump in my riding days. Loved the way it could be locked to the valve head!)👍 Have really enjoyed this channel and the content as well as your other channels. Do what you have to do to keep it fresh and entertaining for you, so if figuring out or launching a new channel is the way, go for it! Just send a link. Just a suggestion and I think I have made it before, although I think RUclips and it's algorithms don't reward such concepts. Would a super channel work? Combine this and your other channels under one main channel banner and then upload videos to each as you feel like making them? Whatever you decide to do, safe journeys sir and hope you will keep us in the loop. (Also was the word you searching for bikepath?)🤣
That building is an oceanographic museum, but now that you mention it, it does indeed look like a mosque 😆 A fat bike would be great for the beach, having wide tires would help cover lots of terrain easily. I need to look into that perhaps. I made a lot of mistakes as a rookie when I started this channel a few years ago. One was not to niche down to one topic, so the algo would target a specific audience. I've been trying to correct this by staying in one niche, but it might be too late. I'll keep it going for a while longer and see what happens. But If i start a new one I'll send you a link.
@@MotionPictureTrips Please do let me know! Thanks for the info on that being a museum. I got a mini google education on the history of mosques in Montevideo and Uruguay looking for pictures to match that building!🤣Got to look at some beautiful buildings so it was well worth the trip down the rabbit hole. 👍One of the unexpected fringe benefits of watching your videos for sure.
@@doberski6855 Will do. I might need to visit that museum and see what they have inside. There's another maritime museum down the road from there too. Lots of interesting places to check. You should see some of the other weird looking buildings Montevideo has. Now that Spring is almost here, I might go out more often and shoot some of these places.
@@MotionPictureTrips That was one of the pluses of some of your other tour videos. You got some extra footage of some of the amazing buildings around town. If allowed a video tour of some of those museums would be excellent.
@@doberski6855 Good point, I need to get back to do that. Specially since I hear some museums are free around here.
That was fun. Some of those sidewalks you were navigating were brutal! I love the two clowns, the guy on the motorcycle who decided to make his right turn by driving up on the sidewalk, and the mouth breather who chained his bike to lamppost at the intersection corner. Hardly blocked anything being parked like that.🤣 Stay safe sir and thanks for taking us along on another ride. 👍
Es uno de los países más civicos de América latina!! , imagínese como serán los demás!!
@@sistematic From this channel and other videos have seen how beautiful and friendly Uruguay is! However nasty things were on that bike ride. I have seen worse in some of the cities I have lived in, here in Canada.
lol glad you like it! Yes, the sidewalks are in need of some major work, they fix a few patches here and there, but them trees keep breaking them it looks like. It's easy to trip on a loose tile, I'm constantly looking down to avoid crashing. Oh, and you should see those guys going against traffic (when there are no cars coming in) it's Mad Max style haha
It's ok if you tolerate camping.
Indeed
Can see why you like that section of Montevideo for riding. Having a monetized RUclips channel or a funding source from some other platform makes a slowtravel trip with any vehicle easier for sure.
I think that's the nicest part of Montevideo as a whole lol (downtown is cool too)

Saludos
Eso es cierto. Probare y ver que sucede!
Don't think you are encountering anything that new. How many comedians, actors, writers, and musicians over the years, have talked about the years of struggle and grinding work they put in, before the got the 'big break'? I think that is where you are right now, just plugging along and waiting for that one video that catches the audience's attention and takes you and your channel into the big numbers levels of success. Been a fan of this and your other channels because I enjoy the content and your style. Wishing nothing but success for you, or at least enough of a money stream that would let you do this full time!
Thanks for the encouragement man, much appreciated and something I hadn't considered. You bring food for thought. RUclips is basically the same thing as that indeed. I'm not seeking fame, however, there's too much temptation that comes with that and vainglory, BUT I'd just be happy if the channel makes a bit of money to support making more videos so it doesn't come out of pocket lol! but it's part of the business also.
I love this look man, keep it up. And also, is there any way for the LUT to be available?
Glad you like it! And thanks for subbing! I'm thinking of putting it for sale for a modic fee eventually (a few bucks), but would like to further fine tune it first.
@@MotionPictureTrips Keep up the great content man, I've always loved the look of old movies using EXR, Vision 2 or even Fuji Eterna/Reala film stocks, they always have this poetic feel because of their imperfections and lower dymamic range. I felt like the new Vision 3 are just too clean and not too much texture.
Also, I think the GoPro 7 gave it more charm especially with it in deep focus. Anyways, looking forward for more of your content. I'm subscribing also❤
@@misterpaulggftw9103 Appreciated! Agreed, the old film stock looks so much better, every frame has postcard like colors and textures. I'm not big on the vision 3 either for the reasons you gave. It almost looks digital lol but also everybody is using.

Have a feeling the closer you get to the shoreline in Montevideo the higher the cost of renting or buying property. Still Uruguay looks like a beautiful choice for relocating or retiring to. You have done an excellent job showing it off to us with your videos!
Glad you liked it! Indeed, prices go stratospheric the closer to the beach you go,. I think it used to be cheaper years ago, but things have changed. Still cheaper than a hut going for $500k in the the states lol
The whole Piriápolis area (from Solis to Punta Negra) is really nice and enjoyable. Good video mate 👍
Yes sir, it is. Appreciate the comment and glad you liked it!
Those motorcycles were just a tad annoying! What a great bike tour of Piriapolis and Ramona was very kind and informative host and tour guide.
Name a type of travel and what you talked about will apply to all of them in one way or the other. You will have moments that make you wish you had never started your trip, or had another form of transportation. Then you will crest a hill and be presented with a view or a breeze or the perfect camping site will present itself at the right time of your travel day and you will feel like you made all the right choices. It is fantastic that you are on this adventure sir, and more importantly that you continue to take us along with you on your journey.
Very true. I think biking is awesome regardless of the struggles of bikepacking. It will get better over time as I get more experience. Glad you're liking the trips!

Yeah you had some beautiful scenery for your ride for sure and I liked the way you have the bike setup. It is always tough to make the decision to set up camp, when the riding conditions are good and you have daylight left. You will always be second guessing yourself, just like anyone else on a biking or camping adventure. Was wondering is all your gear on your bike or did you have a back pack as well? Another great video showing just how amazing Uruguay is.
Indeed, it's not easy at all specially, when someone like me hasn't done wild camping before (only as a kid, a long time ago). I had a back pack, which was inside the rear pannier. In the back pack I had some clothes, camera gear and accessories, among other items. It turned out to be very practical as I could remove it and take it with me inside the bus when I returned back home. Have more upcoming videos on this trip, so stay tuned!
What? 1:17ish is as good as it gets...that's pretty good by the way, after that it shuts down...not you, just the drange on that camera.
Howdy. Not sure I fully understood the part of the camera shutting and the range (zoom range, or dynamic range?). Could you elaborate more? Thanks for the comment
Bro that was fantastic. Camera has pretty decent quality considering how old it must be. But the framing/composition/lighting/storytelling, that's what matters most. You are absolutely right.
Happy you liked it, appreciated!

Glad you liked it. It's from the Bourne Identity movie. I use the themes across various other videos on my channel, but for this vid I used: "Bourne On Land" "The Bourne Identity Original Opening" By John Powell
Great shots.. but I'm a little confused. What exactly is the model of that "little $50 gem" ?
Appreciated! It's in the thumbnail but not sure it's too visible, I'll redact it in text in the title also. It's a Sony HX9v
@@MotionPictureTrips Thank you for putting the model in the title. It wasn't very readable in the thumbnail, especially on desktop. Red font didn't help its cause either lol
Yes sir! Thanks for the feedback, I'll get the thumbnail fixed. Get the camera btw! :D@@nevmiku
Just going to add this. It also depends on the talent behind the camera, not just the cost of the camera. You get more amazing images out of your low price cameras, then people with less talent and skill could get with those high price units. That talent and skill also shows in your creative and editing skills on this and your other channels!
Appreciate the words man. I'll add that all the skills an indie-filmmaker can get are free these days, we have so many resources compared to back in the early 2000s and so that anybody can learn with time and practice. Plus we have such a massive variety of cameras that were ultra expensive back then, and now can be had for the price of an expensive burger at McDonalds lol
I agree - I'm a professional photographer, and people would often say "Your camera takes great pictures..." I would laugh and reply "Your oven bakes great cookies." Yes, good equipment is important, but having a good eye, understanding the principles of composition, and storytelling all go into creating good work.
That's a great analogy btw! @@thegreengagardener
If you want to start a channel, or have a channel already but can't afford the latest tech, there are alternatives! Let me show you the videos I've shot with this little Sony for which I paid only $50 Update: Also, I wanted to share a couple extra videos of this camera by another youtuber. One of them using an hypergonar anamorphic lens. Credits: hhltest1 (note, these vids are 12 plus years old about the time when the camera came out) Anamorphic test: ruclips.net/video/sjTPrexmjxA/видео.htmlfeature=shared Standard lens: ruclips.net/video/7dzOWCzzB64/видео.htmlfeature=shared "Extreme color correction" ruclips.net/video/Tq5PmHf5KZg/видео.html I personally will keep it for years to come. I used to have a bmpcc original and I love both cameras. I can upres the footage with Topaz AI to 2k-4k, add motion blur in AE, and this camera will look even better. It won't get me more dynamic range, but who cares. I know to avoid high contrast scenes. I love the old-school footage coming out of its sensor.
