We embarked on a beautiful 7 day mediterranean cruise on board the Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady Ship! This was our first taste of what the Virgin brand has to offer and we can gladly say we are hooked!

We visited Varadero in February 2023 and stayed at the beautiful Sanctuary Grand Memories! After a two year hiatus from travelling 'down south' due to reasons everyone knows, we loved our toes getting to touch the Caribbean beach, drinking and eating in the sun and spending some very well deserved time with our friends =) ENJOY!!
Is the beach party still on Saturday night?
It was on a Saturday night when we went. Im assuming they would still have it on that day.
We're going on this cruise in 20 days and I'm secretly freaking out as it's my first cruise and I don't know what to expect with the ship moving etc... we got mid deck as they said you feel less there, but truthfully I'm still a little worried - please let me know if you can how the "feeling is" while on board, and when you're out at sea - do you feel super far from the mainland?
You don’t feel the ship swaying or moving as much in the Mediterranean. The water was very calm for us and given that you guys are mid ship, you guys should feel very little movement. As for when you’re sailing, you definitely feel far from ‘mainland’ because you don’t see any land in sight. We love that feeling and its very calming to be sailing in the ‘middle of nowhere’.

Is there a bar on the beach?
There is a bar on the beach on the main side of the resort. The sanctuary part of the beach doesn’t have a bar unfortunately. There is a bar within a few minutes walking distance though.

Were there good parties or more of a family vibe?
There was a beach party one of the nights which was very cool and lively. The sanctuary side was much more laid back with live music most nights. The pool at the main side of the resort also had more of a party vibe during the day, however the sanctuary pool was where you could sit back and relax.
What type of room did you stay in? Looked much better than what I’ve seen
It was an ocean front room
How much did the private car driver cost for the Havana day trip tour?
I believe we paid around $240 CAD for the entire day between the 4 of us
I really prefer the Sanctuary part of the Grand Memories Resorts.
🇨🇦🙋♀️btw there is a bus you can take into Varedero for $5 return Cnd, was pretty interesting, i am looking for a smaller resort in Varedero, any suggestions, stayed in the Memories not Grand, had to take an extended golf cart thru resort and to the beach. 😔
Weve only stayed at the regular Memories and the Grand Memories in Varadero, so unfortunately they’re both pretty large resorts. As for the bus we haven’t had the opportunity to try that out yet.
Was the beach party only for sanctuary?
Everyone was allowed at the beach party :)

It does! Some nights were busier than others

Hey! We used the Dji Pocket 2 camera. Its very portable and small, mainly used for vlogging.

Thought it was a new hotel...but the sanctuary room seem really old!!
Its fairly ‘newer’ you could say, it was built in 2015. The rooms were dated, however while we were there, it seemed like the staff were starting to renovate around the resort.
How was the meat selections at the buffets?
We unfortunate didn’t try out the buffet. We stayed on the sanctuary side for most of our meals except for the bbq at the beach during lunch and the snack bar.
Bern there last February. Didn't like the room 😢
That’s unfortunate :( Our room didn’t have many things wrong with it, however we did see a lot of renovations going on while we were there.

is there a lobby bar or somewhere to chill at night with drinks and listen to live music, piano bar, etc.
There is actually a bar on the sanctuary side across from the sit down restaurant that has live music and entertainment every night :)
Adults only?
‘The Sanctuary’ part was adults only. The other side of the resort, ‘Grand Memories’ was all ages.

We could, but it had to be shut from the outside
Thanks for sharing your video. How’s the food situation? I was in Cuba December 2022 and there was food shortage. 😢
It was pretty good when we went, however being on the Sanctuary side we found they made sure there wasn’t a shortage. We did though notice not as much overall availability on the regular grand memories side. Overall we were very pleased with the food at the Sanctuary. Alcohol availability was not always the best, plenty of cuban rum but other liquor supply varied.
My goodness, that’s a delicious and spicy man!
