    Well be because people wrote about it decades after the fact at best. And then they kept teaching it to you up to the days in your church. It isn't delusion as much as brainwashed. I mention this many times in my own vids. When you are told something as a child and educated about it continuously in your school followed by multiple days a week in your church---you believe it. This is what I ask the Christian (former Christian here). How much have you actually researched? And researching doesn't mean reading a book by one of your own and just agreeing with it because it matches your already programmed worldview. It means checking for legitimacy. All of us deconverts were once Christians. And we did the research and as I always tell my own people. If you do the research you won't be a Christian for very long. Cheers, DCF

    You know what I hate? Not knowing. Let me explain, the one female on the panel was talking about "modernity" and how written history in antiquity was done way different than it is today in modern times. Her point, historians have to keep that in mind when reading the gospels for example. So when the gospel of Mark talks about some miracle Jesus performed, it might not have happened word for word and exactly as it was written, because of how they wrote back then, etc..., Okay, cool, but how do you know that? How can people know that's exactly how it hppened? How do the writters want us to understand what they wrote? If you answer that question, did you talk to someone about it who lived 2000 years ago? How do we know? We don't know, right? We're all just making educated guesses; right?

    • @vejeke
      @vejeke Год назад

      Educated guesses, indeed. But when someone reads more and more literature of the period they may recognize the theme. Sometimes those authors of antiquity even tell us that they don't even know what really happened, but they will make up some story to try to "convey the character" of some other particular figure.

    The Gospels look like embellished legends growing more fantastic over time. Matthew and Luke copied Mark but they clearly embellish or alter the story and events. John tells entirely different stories as I will demonstrate below. Mark 1. Mark 1: 21-27 drives out impure spirit. 2. Mark 1: 28 - news spread over whole region of Galilee 3. Mark 1: 29-34 Jesus heals many 4. Mark 1: 40-42 Jesus heals man with leprosy 5. Mark 2: 1-12 Heals paralyzed man 6. Mark 3 Heals shriveled hand 7. Mark 4: 35-41 Jesus stills the storm 8. Mark 5 heals a demon possessed man 9/10. Mark 5: 21 raises dead girl and heals sick woman 11. Mark 6: 30 feeds five thousand 12. Mark 6: 45 walks on water 13. Mark 7: 31 heals deaf and mute man 14. Mark 8 Jesus feeds four thousand 15. Mark 8: 22 heals blind man 16. Mark 9 Transfiguration 17. Mark 9: 14 heals demon possessed boy 18. Mark 10: 52 heals blind man Bartimaeus 19. Mark 16 Resurrection, no appearance narrative. Matthew 1. Matthew 1 virgin birth 2. Matthew 4: 23-25 heals the sick, news spread all over Syria, not just Galilee as Mark says. 3. Matthew 5 sermon on the mount 4. Matthew 8 heals a man with leprosy 5. Matthew 8: 13 heals centurion's servant 6. Matthew 8: 14-16 heals many 7. Mt. 8: 23-27 calms the storm 8. Mt. 8: 28 restores TWO demon possessed men, not one as in Mark. 9. Mt. 9 heals paralyzed man 10/11. Mt. 9: 18-26 heals sick woman and raised dead girl 12. Mt. 9: 27-34 heals the blind and the mute 13. Mt. 12: 22 heals blind and mute man 14. Mt. 14: 14 healed sick 15. Mt. 14: 17-21 feeds five thousand 16. Mt. 14: 22-29 Both Jesus AND Peter walk on water 17. Mt. 15: 29-38 feeds four thousand 18. Mt. 17 Transfiguration 19. Mt. 17: 14-20 heals demon possessed boy 20. Mt. 20: 29-34 heals TWO blind men instead of just one (Bartimaeus) from Mark 10: 46-52. 21. Mt. 27: 51 earthquake 22. Mt. 27: 52-53 raising of holy people 23. Mt. 28: 2 violent earthquake 24. Mt. 28: 2 descending angel 25. Mt. 28: 8-10 Risen Jesus appears to the women 26. Mt. 28: 16-20 appearance to the disciples and commission. Some "doubt" v. 17. Luke/Acts 1. Luke 1 totally different virgin birth story from Matthew's. 2. Luke 4: 31-37 drives out impure spirit 3. Lk. 4: 38-44 heals many 4. Lk. 5: 12-15 heals man with leprosy 5. Lk. 5: 17-26 heals paralyzed man 6. Lk. 7: 1-10 heals centurion's servant 7. Lk. 7: 11-17 raises widow's son 8. Lk. 8: 22-25 calms the storm 9. Lk. 8: 26-39 heals demon possessed man 10/11. Lk. 8: 40-56 raises dead girl, heals sick woman 12. Lk. 9: 10-17 feeds five thousand 13. Lk. 9: 28-36 Transfiguration 14. Lk. 9: 37-43 heals demon possessed boy 15. Lk. 10: 1-12 Jesus sends out the 72 (or seventy as in the NRSV). 16. Lk. 11: 14-28 casts out demon, heals mute man 17. Lk. 13: 10-17 heals crippled woman 18. Lk. 17: 11-19 heals 10 men with leprosy 19. Lk. 18: 35-43 heals blind beggar 20. Lk. 24: 4 two angels instead of one as in Mark and Matthew. 21. Lk. 24: 5-8 Luke adds an additional angel at the tomb and alters what they say to remove the reference to a future appearance in Galilee - Mk. 16:6-7, Mt. 28: 5-7. 22. Lk. 24: 12 Peter runs to check tomb. Missing from Mark and Matthew. 23. Lk. 24: 13-30 appearances on the road to Emmaus 24. Lk. 24: 31 sudden disappearance 25. Lk. 24: 36 sudden appearance to the disciples in Jerusalem, not Galilee as Mark predicts and Matthew depicts. 26. Lk. 24: 39 Jesus invites the disciples to inspect his "flesh and bone" body to confirm he's "not a spirit." 27. Lk. 24: 40-43 Jesus eats fish so there is no doubt as in Matthew 28: 17. 28. Lk. 24: 50-53 - Ascension 29. Acts 1 appearances for forty whole days! Luke also contains the most parables (24), eighteen of which are unique to his Gospel. While John may not have _narrated_ the most extraordinary events, one can still make the case the gospel is still the most "developed" overall. What about the fact that there are so many amazing stories unique to his gospel which are not found in the synoptics? For instance, the highly sophisticated Hellenistic Logos Christology, the water to wine miracle, the raising of Lazarus, the high Christological statements, the unique/developed teaching of the Holy Spirit, Jesus teleporting through locked doors, the Doubting Thomas story, and the miraculous catch of 153 fish. So all that PLUS the two passages below is enough to show that John, being the last written, is still consistent with being the most developed overall. Your video does not actually address this evidence of development. These two verses from John support the development theory: John 20:30 _"Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book."_ John 21:25 _"Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written."_

    • @ancalagonyt
      @ancalagonyt Год назад

      The verses quoted don't support the development theory, but they do support a theory I think is the correct one: that John was written as a supplemental gospel. John wrote last, after the other gospels were complete. So it looks like what he did was write down mostly stuff that he had seen, but that nobody had yet written down. He didn't need to cover the stuff that had already been covered. The claim that John's prologue is "Hellenistic Christology" is most likely incorrect. Logos was used by Greek philosophers in special ways, but the equivalent word in Aramaic, Memra, had a history of being used by Jews before that, and it's most likely that either just the Jewish Memra tradition or both of them were in John's mind while writing the passage. The biggest problem with the theory that Matthew and Luke developed from Mark is the evidence that Mark was written after Matthew and Luke, and used both of them as sources.

    • @thehopelessdeterminist
      @thehopelessdeterminist Год назад

      It's interesting to hear you assert that the evidence I cited doesn't support the development theory. The story clearly grows in the telling. Are we reading the same stories? It's simply dishonest gaslighting to assert a story which grows more fantastic over time is not actually doing that. You're basically telling me to deny empirical evidence that is right in front of my eyes! Sorry, but you'll have to do better than just assert the story is not evolving. It certainly is so now you have to explain why that is the case and also explain why the more probable explanation is that this data isn't an evolving legend. John being "supplemental" doesn't mean it's "historical." The amazing claims in John are nowhere attested in the earliest sources when we'd expect something given the important nature of these claims. This also applies to the Logos Christology which is nowhere else attested, not even in the rest of John's gospel! So even if I'm wrong about it being Hellenistic, that doesn't mean it's not a later development. Lastly, most experts today believe Markan priority to be the case and I do not see any good reason to distrust them.

    • @ancalagonyt
      @ancalagonyt Год назад

      @@thehopelessdeterminist That John is supplemental refutes your claim of development. You're relying on John being different as evidence for your case, but there's a better explanation that covers more facts: that it's a supplemental gospel. The development theory can't explain why John is quite different from the 3 synoptics. The claim that Mark was written first has lots of evidence against it, and no good evidence for it. There is a statistical proof against Mark being written first with odds of the data arising from chance less than 3 in 100 million. The most likely position for Mark to be written in is 3rd, which makes all of the arguments from Mark being "primitive" have force against the "development" theory. The development theory can't explain Mark or John. It can't explain the data. The no development theory has no such problem. That Mark sounds "primitive" has mostly to do with the oral nature of the material, which is because it's from the preaching of Peter, an oral source. The difference between the synoptics and John, which wouldn't have had time to arise in some long slow developmental process, is easy to explain as a supplement.

      How does listing each miracle in each gospels prove your claim that the gospels get more fantastical over time? Mark has the most amount of miracles compared to all the other gospels and John has the lowest amount, does that mean the gospels get progressively less fantastical over time? John also contains the no parables too, so if you want to cherrypick and make non-sequiters to assert a position or claim we can literally do the same to disprove you.

    Just a thought, but when Bart was talking about throughout history Rome was known to leave bodies on crosses as a sign to never cross Rome, for example. That is an interesting point that may be significant for historians. However, what I think is also interesting, is according to scripture Luke's gospel, "Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man." Therefore, I think it's conceivable based on this that Pilate may have told some of the soldiers if the family wants the body let them have it. I don't know just a thought, but who the heck knows anyway except those there at the time.

If a man is about to dive off a twenty-foot cliff into shallow water and there is a man there who knows the water is only two feet deep it would be very sad if the man who knows about the shallow water says nothing. Jesus Christ came to not only warn us but to provide a way to be saved. He gave his life, shed his blood for the forgiveness of our sins. We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. All of us. The wages of sin is death. Jesus Christ offers us life. (Eternal life). No religion needed. So ... essentially what Hurtado is saying, the Apostle Paul along with the other early Jewish Christians, held to a “high Christology”, that is, a high human resurrection Christology. “Same substance” or “essence” was not a part of their terminology, therefore, it’s not a factor in their views. If we want to have the same historic Christianity that they did, then it only stands to reason that we should eliminate post New Testament ideology from our views as well, and stop using them as the filter through which we understand the Apostolic writings.

    The Jews preached that they were "the chosen few," and those who begged to disagree decided to start another new religion, with Jesus as their representative. It is, however, very suspicious, that much was written in the new testament about Jesus, yet not one word was ever found in the personal hand-writing of the one that was said to be a learned master, and the savior of humanity.

      June VanDerMark ... We are ALL tribal ... ALL Tribes are set out in Genesis ... Genesis is devoid of any reference to a "Jew" tribe. What is the etymology for "Jew" or "Iewe"? The State of Israel is rented to the Esauites who claim "Jew" is the people chosen by God and the land Israel sits is the land God promised the Jews. funny, if you look at the laws of Israel, and compare them with the code of Cana'an ("canon") law of the Hittites aka "Vatican" you will find a similarity. One would think the laws of the State of Israel would be the Constitution Written in Heaven not the laws of the Cana'anites. For Esau + Cana'an see Genesis 36:2. JeZeus JeZeus WAS God in the flesh! There are 2 facts to support this: 1. When JeZeus was chasing the Hittite money changers out of His DEFILED Temple JeZeus said: "you have turned MY HOUSE into a den of thieves! Proof 1. 2. When JeZeus was hanging on the Tau it said: "Me, Me, why have I forsaken MYSELF"! Proof 2. How can anyone deny JeZeus was God in the flesh!
