Asbestos Exposure and VA Disability | All You Need To Know
Leah provides an in-depth overview of asbestos exposure and its connection to VA disability claims. She explains that asbestos, once widely used in military settings like Navy ships from the 1940s to the 1980s, poses serious long-term health risks, including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer, often manifesting decades after exposure. Leah highlights resources available for veterans, such as environmental health coordinators and VA.gov help documents, to aid in identifying exposure risks and filing disability claims. She emphasizes the importance of medical documentation, including service records and physician statements, to establish a connection between asbestos exposure during ...

Thanks for your video. I have significant tinnitus in my left ear and am experiencing anxiety and depression, I believe, due to that. I would be interested in links to the associated studies you mentioned in the video.
Awesome, like always 😎
Thank you for the support!
@prestigeveteranmedical De nada señorita
You are 100% right.
Thank you for watching!
Great info have been dealing with the va sense sept.2023 for this condition. Still waiting. Have had two ace exams and a c and p exam.
Sorry to hear this. Thank you for watching and please keep us posted!
Thanks!
Thank you for the support and for watching!!
Hello, Thank you for all you do for the Veterans…!!!…I was stationed at Loring AFB Maine 1983 to 1985…I lived and worked in Asbestos buildings…I have been documented with asbestos exposure by respiratory and have lung problems…Restrictive Lung and Nodules…been VA Denied…not Service Connected…what can I do to get this rated…Thanks…
I’m sorry to hear this. Thank you for watching and best of luck to you
Thank you for your diverse and interesting video sessions and other services. I have been successfully assisted by members of your team on two separate occasions. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the awesome feedback and thank you for the opportunity!
I'd like to know your thoughts on linking Tinnitus to Sleep Apnea with someone also having insomnea and lower back issues.
Hi sir I do not believe that tinnitus can cause sleep apnea. Especially if the veteran is overweight as this is the most common cause of sleep apnea.
@@prestigeveteranmedical I asked because of your last of the 5 conditions. I have Tinnitus, headaches, insomnia and Sleep Apnea. I'm not overweight, kinda normal under 200. I do have VA issues CPAP and just looking to see which direction I can/should go to link these and get them rated. Baby steps.
When our test results came out Human Papillomavirus negative after living with it for 9 years, my husband was so happy that our kids won’t have sick parents after all but above all I want to thank *Dr Madida Sam* on RUclips whom with their effective and working treatments cured us of our HPV🦠
I just had a C & P for depression. My doctor was awesome and said he would request me to get an increase from 40% to 100%. Does this bode well for me getting a 100 %
Hey sir! I hope so! The doctor cannot really request a specific increase percentage. They just have to document your severity and then the adjudicator will total up the percentage. Thank you for watching
Absolutely amazing information!
Thank you for watching!
I tore my acl when i was in the reserves and yes football accident , issue is im not sure if it was filed initially when the injury happened. I just got a slip to be on light duty during annual training, i was previously active duty as infantry heavy ruck marches, even would carry my battle buddies full battle rattle as a smoke session. I was able to get 10% for shin splints, maybe be abke to link that to torn acl? Idk any recommendations in case it wasnt filed thru the reserves?
I am sorry to hear this! It would be hard to state that shin splints caused the ACL injury if there was a trauma during football. I am sorry to hear about this though!
@ i submitted 2 buddy statements one a soldier being there and the other who caused the accident. May possibly help.
Ironic... I'm also a retired Over the road Trucker and back in 1995 or so I hauled Radio-Active cargo from a GE Plant in South Carolina to a Replenishing Plant in Southern Kentucky.
Thank you for your service and thank you for watching

Is radiculopathy related to hip issues.
Radiculopathy is generally related to nerve impingement in the spine
@prestigeveteranmedical the reason I'm asking I have sciatica down both legs and at times I can't hardly walk also an mri shows narrowing and impingement.
I’m on track to get TDIU. When I do, should I continue with other secondary claims? Does VA cover all health issues or just service - connected ones? I’ve heard that you should keep going but I’ve also heard people say don’t “poke the bear “. Thoughts?
Hey sir that is an individual decision that veterans make based upon their circumstances. My opinion as a Veteran is that if you believe something is related to your service you should not be afraid to pursue it. Best of luck, thank you for watching, and keep us posted.
Hi I have a question so I did a C and p exam for my back. The provider doing the exam requested an x ray then the results from the x ray showed scoliosis and curvature. I was denied the claim for back pain. Is there a way I can request another c and p exam or is there anything else I can do?
If you follow up with a legal professional like a VSO, accredited claims agent or an attorney they should be able to assist you
@ would you recommend a higher level review ?
@judoorbell1384 that is outside of my scope of services and education. It is more of a legal question
Thank you for the information and your service
Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for you giving of your time my wife sent me for a sleep study as soon as she heard about them doing down in Birmingham Alabama maybe 30 years ago I have been on a CPAP since then. Well now I am on a BiPAP until a week ago. I had no idea I could have this as a service related condition I was exposed to many Chemicals at Fort McClellan Alabama during chemical and biological warfare school. Again, thank you for your encouragement and your time.
Sounds like you have a great wife. Thank you very much for sharing your story and for your support.
Going on line if you are blind is a challenge.
My VA doctor has written a few Nexus letters for me last year, but today Jan 2025 she informs me that she cannot write letters or do a DBQ any longer.
I am glad to hear that she did assist with several. Did you ask her why she has changed her position on this?
Is it a good strategy to list these articles on your claim as a nexus to an already SC’d condition?
That is a great question. Every case is unique and I am not the filling expert. Best bet is to follow up with an accredited legal professional like your free county VSO.
We should get you a headset microphone so you don't have to hold that 55 gallon oil drum.
I like my colorful microphone and a headset will mess up my hair! We will see maybe I will shop around or borrow my sons gaming headset!
Good video! My MH was diagnosed due to chronic lower back pain. Have conditions in now for radiculopathy. Thanks.
Best of luck to you! Keep us posted!

Amazing video. Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching!
Mine pops going downstairs. Acl reconstruction in the Navy. The scar area is the worst. Patella area pops😮. This was done 35 years ago on active duty, so service connected. We’ll see how it goes
I am sorry to hear this sir! Thank you for watching and please keep us posted
VA gets it wrong more than they get it right! I have been fighting the VA claims people since 2012, even when my primary care provider has expressed to me off the record, that my condition was “more likely than not “ a result of my service. She refuses to provide me a nexus letter. She has lied to my face at least three times with different reasons she can’t write a nexus for me. Every time she gave me an excuse, it was a different reason. I have since found out that she is required to if asked by the veteran to do so. I have a copy of a directive put out by the VA stating that. But she still refuses to do so.
Have you spoken to the hospital director?
If done right, approximately how long wouls combine C&P exam for neck and lower back pain take?
Those are two seperate exams. It really just depends. Alot of the info for the DBQs is based upon history or info from the record that the Veteran does not need to be present for and can be entered in the DBQ before or after the veteran has left. The physical exam component would probably take less then 30 minutes
@ Thanks for getting back to me! I have the physical exam on Sunday morning. Just trying to estimate when to adjust other activities.
@@ShepIP19702 You bet sir, Best of luck to you!
An outstanding video, so much excellent information! I have pretty much everything you've described. I just had my C&P exam on the 31st so based on everything I've read and been told from the medical community, my 80% should be upgraded to 100%. Question though, if my medical records annotate my migrains as prostrating (or immobilizing according to my neurologist) two to three times per week, with the VA criteria of 50% rating due to how often I suffer with them, can I file a claim for my initial rating of 30% when I retired in 2013 to be considered for an upgrade to 50%? Just curious. I've also tried to talk to my care team at the VA about depression as a result of my chronic pain and limitations but none listen to me at all. It's very odd. I can try again but it seems the VA would bend over backwards to help but they don't seem concerned in the slightest. Anyway, I'll try again, maybe it's a nonissue. Thanks, Brian
Thank you for watching I am glad you enjoyed the video. I am not sure about changing the severity from 2013. You may want to follow up with a legal professional on that part. I am sorry to hear about the response from your care team about the mental health aspects. Best of luck to you Brian and thank you again for watching
Lea this one of the best videos you have done
That is really kind of you sir. Thank you for your support and thank you for watching.
Am I able to claim gout as a secondary to depression? I used to drink alcohol as a form of self-medication after I got out of the Army. My claim for depression is secondary to my back pain and it's currently being reviewed and been stuck on step 5 for a few weeks now. How does one go on about this?
You may want to first start by chatting with your local VSO they should be able to assist you with this.
Nice...back pain claims can lead to VERY high value 2nd secondary conditions.$$$😊
For sure! In many cases! Thank you for watching!
I have had 4 back surgeries related to 2 total knee replacements, I walk with a limp, repeated C&P exams the examiner states that my knee problems can't be connected to my back condition.
I am very sorry to hear this sir. Thank you for watching
Please, help! How do i prove my gerd is service connected? when i got it first time, it hurt and i went to emergency. Later they told me because i often skipped meals due to the location of my duty, jungle outdoor away from my office, plus humid weather. On base doc even told me verbally that due to my schedule and location i skipped meals alot and got gerd and stomach upset. Mil doctor even recommended me to have a small piece of bread or cracker while im on duty, at least, to prevent this from happening again. But on paper they never mentioned how i got it.
My depression rating is connected due to my back pain. My OSA is in higher level review right now for the back pain to obesity to OSA how you described in the video. Thanks for the video.
You bet. Best of luck with that OSA and keep us posted!!
Thank you
Thank you for watching!!
Most i had bad examiner not as good as the one we had before...James Wilson was good but now The Michael Crackhead is too hideous like having hidden agenda
How much money does a C&P Examiner get paid per veteran?
There are many variables that go into that. It is not a black and white answer
@prestigeveteranmedical so, how much did you get paid, period ?
@@ro_boat I did not get paid anything. I did it for my hourly pay at the facility I worked for which was an urgent care. They just put people on my schedule that I fit in between anything else like strep throat or headaches or whatever
Lower back injury while in the Navy. Caused radiculopathy in both of my legs, depression and anxiety, sleep apnea all from my back. Now the VA found I have a collapsed vein on the left side of my left leg which needs surgery to repair and caused "foot drop" in my left leg and diagnosed now with spinal stenosis. I think I should also see about my weight issues because it is very hard to exercise and even move around. A lot of people also don't know that when you are having sleep issues it causes your body to crave weird foods, especially carbs and sugar. It's a never ending cycle that the VA doesn't realize that veterans suffer with when they have issues like these
Thank you for sharing. Best of luck to you and thank you for watching.
Thank you, as always, great info. I will be filling for a claim regarding how my years of NSAIDS usage has aggravated my gerd. Wish me luck.
Best of luck to you and thank you for watching!!
I will be using some of the articles you mentioned for my sleep apnea as relates to my back
@@kelvincurtiss3286 sounds great good luck!
I've suffered back pain ever since an accident from when I was in the Army. The Army rated my knees at 20% each but my back at 0%. It was rated and granted service connection, but 0%. Foolishly, I trusted the Army when they told me to sign the paperwork and the VA would raise my ratings after I got out. They did the exact opposite and dropped the back rating completely, denying service connection, even though the Army said it WAS service connected. Going on 35 years later, my back is worse, my knees are worse and have affected my hips (which are now secondary service connected), and I have chronic bilateral plantar fasciitis. I know the VA is never going to grant direct service connection for my back, but I've contemplated filing for secondary connection due to my hips and knees (both service connected). Knowing the VA though, I have very little hope of any movement.
I am very sorry to hear this sir. Best of luck to you
Welcome to the gun show? Lol
Welcome! 💪
My herpes is gone, the stigma and low self-esteem is gone too.i feel better now all thanks to doc oromi on RUclips channel..
Veterans don't simply use tobacco. They equal parts tobacco, caffeine and hate. 😂
This is often the case!
Caffeine alone like coffee, unsweet tea aren't necessarily negative. Do what I did - learn to exist out of spite and a hand rolled cigar on special occasions.
