Flash Flood on film. Zion National Park through Virgin Utah.
Просмотров 138 тыс.12 лет назад
I caught a flash flood on film as it occurred. Was pretty amazing to see in person. The sheer brutality, the noise, even the smell. Made my day being there to experience it. The camera doesn't do it justice, but it still made a decent video IMO. This is where it passed under Sheep ridge road in Virgin, UT. Here is the exact position on google maps: maps.google.com/?ll=37.198969,-113.2117&spn=0....

Josh's first rap

Took josh rapelling. Cougar cliffs, 180 feet. he did great but was a little nervous so I didn't film it. Used my free hand to wrap around him instead. But the intro walk he got some funny footage I think.
Atlas vs Jocey

Atlas and Jocey playing around all weekend. Atlas is a pitbull 2 years old and Jocey is an alaskan malamute 9 months old. They get a little rough sometimes but it's interesting to see them work their differences out themselves.

It always got me how a flash flood in the desert can pick up so much wood, when I was camping out there it was almost impossible to find firewood for my camp fire. LOL
Hello Jake, is it possible to contact you regarding this video (i.e. via email)? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible to discuss? :) Cheers, Felix
🤔🤔🤔👍
The canyon walls to this day are echoing,WOOOW!!!!!!WOOW!!!!!WOW!!!!! Wow . Legend has it that the WOOOW MAN can been seen at twilight!#
Awesome!!
Wow! 😂 More Wow!!
Super 👍👍👍
I miss having adventures with you. I just showed this video to my kids and they loved it
Very nice
We almost died in a houseboat on lake Powell when a storm when the tail end of hurricane Andrew blew through. The canyon we were in turned into a river and out of nowhere our anchors on shore were washed out by a 30 foot wide and 200 foot tall waterfall that appeared out of nowhere by a flash flood. The storm came out of nowhere and it lasted about 30 minutes. 80mph wind, torrential rainfall and nonstop thunder and lightning that was echoing off the canyon walls. It was the experience of a lifetime but it was also the most scared I’d ever been. After that experience we look at the areas we’re going to camp at a little differently every houseboat trip since then.
@Jake Wow... how long were you stranded there? We had a huge flash flood were I used to live in Boscastle in Cornwall, a huge major incident so lucky no one was killed. Floods came crashing through the centre of our village in 2004 washing homes and cars into the sea, we had a dozen or more helicopters trying to rescue people, I now have anxiety every time we have heavy rains...
not stranded. We are up on the bridge next to the road. We ended up getting out about 30 mins before it hit. Still cutting it closer than I would have liked.
anazing tnx for upload. Makes you realize how nature transports things from one place to another, snakes, eggs, bugs, trees, pollen, seeds from plants etc.
Stop bloody messing with the camera ?DUH.
Is this Texas?
I know I saw some dinosaur bones go washing down--am not kidding either!!
Does anyone else get a craving for chocolate milk after watching these flood videos?
Every time you walk somewhere it makes me so nervous. I feel like saying, "be careful!" haha
Hehe, I'm using a GoPro on an extended hiking pole. So it gives me an extra 6 foot reach. If you watch my video "pine creek last rap, scary" you can see the entire apparatus I use. :)
Deathcricket didn't know that 'GoPro' could use film:) .... Kodachrome 25 / 64 or Ektachrome 200/400? Super 8? 16mm?
Definitely going two horns.
Thanks! It was really amazing to see in person
And this is why you don't build in the flood plains.
Thank you!
look a double rainbow. oh my god
Echo Canyon, Upper section, Zion National Park :)
How neat ! where is this slot canyon located at ?
Awesome. Thanks so much!
If you are looking for more data, there is another video of this event further upriver at DNgpI03nWFM I can't put the link up but just replace those numbers and it should work. It's named "Flash Flood Beginning Near Virgin Utah & Zion National Park " by a user named "canyonlandmedia". Really neat video as he is 10 feet away from it instead of up on a safe cliff like I was. I would guess this would be a half hour before it hit my location.
Thanks! That helps alot.
The time stamp on the recording says it started 6:53PM on 8/19/2012 and stopped at 7:01. I don't think I sped up or cropped the video in any way. I'm going to try and edit the video and link the exact spot on google maps for those who want an exact location. It's not letting me link it in comments.
I work for the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City. I'm trying to gather flash flood reports to verify our warnings. Could you tell me what day and approximate time this was? Thanks! Nanette
not sure, It's by the first bridge on SheepBridge rd in Virgin UT.
Is that by the "cracks"?
"Wow!"
Kicks ass. Look at all those DICKS.
Thats a shame, i found it rather amusing :)
Believe it on not, it gets old hearing that after 1000x
You've lost half your front shocks lol
Two horns.
@Mirozenx ah right, i like the look of it, it look really different
@teade20 lighter, it's very strong, most likely cannondale, which are very good and expensive bikes. I have one and it is so light, you could carry it in a suitcase and not notice or something haha
Mirozenx hey subscribe to see me smash a go pro coming soon
Would never trust a lefty....
@441rider Merlin Ti LOL!
@Deathcricket So you can smash your gopro on the other side. LOL! have a Marlin riding buddy with lefty set up.
@meticulousmike were you with Bo? I was in his shop one day and he was telling me about that. Sounds like a crazy trip. :)
@MrMarkrosen Yeah I was just holding it. GoPro attached to the end of a hiking stick. :)
very cool. how did you rig the pole? were you just holding it?
@Blitzerboy1408 Thanks! There is a non muted version at vimeo 27605999
