MATZ! Besides the MV and the behind-the-scenes filming, there's also a ‘Performance Video,’ a ‘Production Behind’ and this lovely RUclips short of the song including the three eldest: ruclips.net/video/HRR-p2yUC_4/видео.html I love how this is Seonghwa's baby. Hongjoong actually wanted to do something slower, but Hwa wanted more rapping. I like that they're allowing him to do that, especially as he finally got his rapper title (alongside Yeosang). The song actually contains a lot of references to things that were happening at the time. There's a verse where they call out sasaengs for putting a tracker on their vehicle. There's also another about people who buy and sell idols’ numbers and addresses. The two also, to paraphrase, tell people to lay off their kids at one point. Fun facts: (1) Both members have stated that they prefer genderless clothes. They are both into fashion, with Hongjoong having wanted to be a designer and Hwa having wanted to be a model at some point. (2) In a lot of lives, Seonghwa honestly discuses that he's gone to shops with his mother and has wanted to buy dresses before. He always says he couldn't because he was a guy. They were the first two in ATEEZ to venture into corset, skirt, heels and even dress (Hwa) territory. (3) There's two members Hongjoong tends to be touchier with. That's Hwa and Yunho (probably as one being the bestie and Yunho having been his support for a while before the rest joined). He tends to be more openly vulnerable around Hwa though. (4) Hongjoong wrote ‘Thank You’ for Seonghwa. I suggest watching the Hongjoong fancam focus for this at some point. Captain goes though some feelings and you can tell in his interactions with Seonghwa how much he cares. (5) Seonghwa was the one that asked for the member rings. Hongjoong delivered. (6) In the early days, they were roommates. Hongjoong used to sleep in the living room a lot as Hwa is a light sleeper and Hongjoong would get back from the studio in the AM. Because he worked so hard, Hwa would always do the room cleaning for him. (7) They initially created the name MATZ to "fight" against the 99z.

Their first ever interview was on radio unfortunately. It's great that they got to do a high school experience! There were some creative means of leaving the classroom or preventing others from winning. The jump out the window and the barricade tactic had me laughing! There was food on the line though! They're already so competitive, but bring in food and ATEEZ ups the anti. 2:06 - I love that Hongjoong gets to show off his tattoo a lot. Many companies forbid tattoos or too many piercings! Fun fact: Hongjoong has two tattoos and nine ear piercings now. Wooyoung has three tattoos, one he shares with San. Everyone has at least one piercing except San and Yunho (they wear fakes on stage), the latter of which is the only member with no piercings or tattoos. 4:29 - San going the wrong way and breaking the door! Thank you once again for such a lovely reaction! As you're asking about the story, I'll try to explain as best I can up until the end of ‘Say My Name’. Let me know if you have any questions and sorry for the absolute length of this comment! First of all, the universe theory. This part hasn't been proven yet, but since my last comment about dimensions a lot of people now believe ATEEZ’s timeline is on a Möbius Strip (like the figure 8). That would place Universe A and Z in the same dimension, with ATEEZ and Halateez existing in two different points in time that happen to connect in the middle. What we do know is that Universe A is the old world/past and is similar to our modern world. Universe Z is the new world/dystopian future, called Strictland, where emotions have been suppressed by the government through advanced technology and the banning of arts (‘Guerilla’). It's also been suggested that ATEEZ members are biased narrators in their diary entries. I love that idea! It's like reading a real book. Story time: Yellow smoke that causes hallucinations was used by Strictland's government to allow them to steal the memories of those under the smoke's influence and burn them for energy. A resistance group called Black Pirates (spearheaded by the Halateez) formed with a goal to stimulate the people’s hearts and minds, mainly by singing/dancing/performing. The government put Halateez on a wanted list, but with the use of the Cromer (which they stole from government vaults during the Kingdom stage ‘Awakening of Summer’), they could teleport and avoid arrest. Why people guess the universe is a Möbius Strip is also because the Cromer is shaped like the strip (or 8) and allows the user to travel back and forth. The Cromer uses the phases of the moon to work. When there is a full moon, the user can travel. When there is a crescent moon, you can communicate through dreams. It's an ancient relic and Hongjoong confirmed it isn't the only relic out there. In order to counteract the Cromer, the government created the Android Guardians (guy with the white mask). These Guardians track people down and take them to 'the Disposal site/Android Guardian's Bunker'. It's where people who have regained their emotions (called sense offenders) and resistance fighters are sent for either re-education or disposal. Guardians are also the ones who steal memories for energy. Since the Android Guardian's Bunker used to be a museum, the display rooms have been repurposed into jail cells (which is why Yeosang's prison in 'Say My Name' looks the way it does). In the end, the Guardians managed to capture the Halateez and imprisoned them. Fastforward to Universe A, we are introduced to ATEEZ. Wooyoung found an abandoned warehouse and shows it to three new friends he met after seeing them dance on the streets: Hongjoong, Seonghwa, and Yunho. Hongjoong dreamed of being famous to bring his family back together, Seonghwa was ruled by lists and to dos and saw dancing as a way to be free, and Yunho saw music/dancing as a way to honor his brother who recently died in a car accident. They helped Wooyoung with his stage fright. San, a lonely boy who constantly had to move around, befriended them and joined them in the warehouse as well as Jongho who, after a basketball injury, discovered his love of music. Wooyoung brought Mingi to the group as he knew him for a few years, even though Mingi often cut himself off from others since he was bullied for being poor. Yeosang was the last to join the group, as he went to a different school and had a controlling father. However, the group did not stay together and happy for long. San had to move again, Mingi, fearing his grandmother’s health, pushed the others away saying their time together was meaningless, which made Jongho mad enough to punch him because this group had given him new life. Yeosang’s father found out about the warehouse, and since he owns it, he closed it for good and forced Yeosang to stop hanging out with the group. At some point Hongjoong snuck in and was sitting alone when he was contacted by Halajoong (World Z version), who was able to keep the Cromer and use it to travel to Hongjoong in the warehouse. He gave the Cromer to Hongjoong telling him: “Follow your heart. The map is there.” Hongjoong turned the Cromer and the sand started flowing backwards. When that happened, all of the members returned to the warehouse. How they make their way is explained in the ‘Fever Road’ snippets. Yeosang decided to defy his father and broke his violin. Yunho decided to deal with his grief in order to follow their dream, he then saved Jongho who was about to take his life because, after losing basketball and then their group falling apart, he didn’t think he had anything left to live for. Seonghwa decided not to let the lists control him. Jongho saved Mingi from people who were chasing after him and they reconciled. The boys then went and found Wooyoung and brought him back, and San decided not to move with his family after all and returned. It's believed that Hongjoong turning the Cromer somehow “delivered messages to the members through dreams” of his longing for them to be together again (‘Inception’), which allowed them to break free from the adult control in their lives (‘THANXX’) and realise they were better together. That's how ATEEZ forms. Given the non-linear nature of the timeline, and that most songs take place in World Z, there's a lot that comes after this. But I'll hop to the Treasure series, where you are now. Just know at this point that our pirates have already been to World Z and back. In the context of things, ‘Pirate King’ and ‘Treasure’ are both set in World A. It's where they realise they all have a group goal and individual treasures to seek. However, they're also talking about rallying the Black Pirates as 'Say My Name' is orientated around saving Yeosang (who was captured by the Guardians before the events of 'HALA HALA'). 'HALA HALA' is an intro to the warehouse as a middle point of the Möbius Strip. It's where, theoretically, the two places would cross. Hongjoong even raps about the place being their starting point. Donning the Halateez outfits and putting on masks is their way of preparing to go into the Android Guardian’s bunker on their Yeosang rescue mission. Their dance is a way to hype themselves up for the battle they know they are about to face. I think this battle is also why the sing about themselves potentially being a suicide squad. We also have two types of communication devices used in this song by Hongjoong and Mingi, one being a horn. It's what Yeosang hears when he's rescued. While being detained, Yeosang was forced to look at resistance fighters have their energy stolen from. He was in so much pain that he wished he could lose his emotions but knew that was not the right way to think. He then heard the sound of a trumpet and the Android Guardians ran out towards the sound and started to fight a group of men in black fedoras. While they were gone, one of the men came to save Yeosang. He removed his mask and revealed himself to be Seonghwa. He then helped Yeosang escape from his glass prison (Kingdom stage 'Ode to Joy'). Meanwhile, in the underground hideout of the Black Pirates, a morse code message was received and translated by Left Eye (the old man you saw at the end of the Halazia MV) saying, “SAY MY NAME, ATEEZ” informing the Black Pirates that ATEEZ was back. You were asking about the order of the MVs. ATEEZ albums read like books. You follow the story from track 1 downwards. It's the best indicator of which order to view the MVs in. Like how the MV for 'Wave' started exactly the way 'Illusion' ended. So 'HALA HALA' would be first. As a last fun fact: There have been MVs where Yeosang seems a little more removed from everyone, in a box or even chained ('Halazia'). It's the depiction of his imprisonment.

I love the start of this video. You both seem like you have such great characters. 🤗 2:07 - The boys smiling makes me so happy. They've worked so hard and have gone through so much to get where they are. Yunho just has this way of showing emotions across his whole face. Mingi's smile is just so soft and heart-warming. 8:20 - Mingi has always been so straightforward about his feelings for Yunho. He's so incredibly loyal to friends, especially Yunho. It's so endearing. They have such a sweet relationship. 9:01 - Oh! I agree their dancing becomes a little more relaxed together. I also think it's linked to their dance habits. While they dance slightly differently, they have the same habits due to coming from the same dance school. They said in a live once that they almost formed a dance crew, so these two can synch up very well. I'm also just always so amazed at how well both can dance at their height! Of course you can still dance, but there's so much to think about! With naturally longer limbs, taller people have to focus more on controlling their movements or their dancing can come across as a little inaccurate. In a group setting, you have to think about how high you're going to jump vs everyone else, you're going to have to sometimes move faster to synch up, your need to know when it's best to shorten your steps vs keep them the same and you have further to duck and move up than everyone else. I always appreciate all the thought and analysis that goes into these videos!

Just watching the soundcheck is entertaining enough with these eight! Thank you for being so open to all forms of content! Fancams can be either a blessing or a curse. When it comes to those following individual members, back in the early days, certain members didn't even get one as they weren't considered ‘popular’ enough. I'm not sure whether this was because they were just from a small agency and weren't afforded the privilege (like how their music was cut short on stage without warning sometimes), or whether that's the case for all early K-Pop groups. For group fancams, there are times you can sometimes tell there's a bias. For the most part though they are well-shot. Haha, I need to catch up with content! I think the song you both were trying to pinpoint was ‘Dreamy Day’ but I know you've watched SoundBomb 360 now! I've been in the UK with minimal chance to watch RUclips. 🤗

These two just have such a special relationship and I'm happy they could use each other for support and get through troubling times. Yunho is always behind Mingi and circling him throughout the MV. The way Yunho looks up at Mingi at the end as well! I think you're right, that Mingi wanted to call it ‘Yunho,’ which is super sweet. ‘[THE WORLD EP.FIN : WILL] COUNTDOWN LIVE’ is where they discuss some of the songs on the album. The ‘Youth’ section starts at 48:38 and Mingi does indeed confirm it's based on their feelings. 5:47 - Yunho actually has had contemporary lessons. Shamra's words of wisdom! Fun facts: (1) Mingi is a slow eater. During school his friends would leave him at lunch because he took too long so Yunho started travelling to Mingi's school to eat lunch with him. On 'Weekly Idol’ ep573, it was revealed that Yunho even took him out to a beef restaurant, which is quite expensive for a student. Mingi used to dislike drinking Coke, but Yunho had a habit of offering Mingi some whenever he bought one for himself in which Mingi adapted to this habit and said he got addicted to drinking coke. Mingi's mother said "isn't the atmosphere between you two a bit too heavy?" when she first met Yunho. (4) In one of the ‘Wanteez’ episodes, it's revealed some members thought Mingi was intimidating. Yunho revealed that what he first saw was cuteness. I think Yunho is very much a protecting and guiding force for Mingi, where Mingi as an emotional force for Yunho. While Yunho never says no to affection, he's more a word of affirmation and acts of service person. He doesn't necessarily always initiate hugs or kisses, except with Mingi. Due to scenes like the ‘Wanteez’ episode where Yunho doesn't initially pick Mingi, I've heard a few people say Mingi has a one-sided relationship though.Their difference is that Yunho tries to treat everyone equally as well. Mingi is exceptionally loyal and will showcase that whenever he can. There's no right or wrong for either. Mingi loves loudly and Yunho loves more quietly. I wish people wouldn't judge so quickly. (5) They had a call the night before their audition, but never said which company it was for. That they rocked up at the same place was destiny. They recreate that call when they do ‘Youth’ live. The song itself was created by Mingi when he was 22 and Yunho filled in the lyrical blanks. I also agree with the opinion that the song is very much a conversation between the two of them.

Treasure Episode 1 has such a dazzling sound to it. They were great songs to debut with and each has their own nod to the pirate theme (including 'Twilight,' 'Stay' and 'My Way'). They are looking at the past whilst also looking to the future. As in, they are looking at what they’ve done and where they’ve come from, acknowledging it, then using that to move forward into the future. As they start the journey, they start on their path, their way. They encourage themselves not to be afraid. Stand outs from the Treasure Episode 1: ‘Pirate King’ has a zombie version (done on the streets) and a Christmas version (slightly goofy and dressed up). The 'Twilight' + 'Stay' combos are also amazing! I saw you did the ATINY's Voyage version! They're both such bops! There's also a nice live version of ‘My Way’ from THE FELLOWSHIP : MAP THE TREASURE at Seoul. It's from the same concert that has ‘Win’ as its opening. KQ and ATEEZ did not play since the beginning!

They've grown up so much! Starting from the beginning of the logbooks will definitely be quite fun! 2:51 - This is actually the first intro ATEEZ ever had. There's a short video for it: ‘TREASURE EP.1 : All To Zero Intro : Long Journey Trailer.’ It came out a few days before the MVs for 'Pirate King' and 'Treasure'. It's voiced by Maddox. Something to note, is that Maddox does a lot of the narrative parts for their songs. He did the intro for Golden Hour too. 7:36 - In terms of singing it seems none of them sang Wooyoung's parts. They did incorporate his more prominent choreo though, so the dance formations and group interactions were slightly different. 14:24 - 'Win' has such atmosphere to it! The song is amazing. KQ took footage of Win: ‘THE FELLOWSHIP : MAP THE TREASURE at SEOUL’. It's the opening act and they go full-out with the pirate theme! It's worth watching. 19:32 - Hongjoong's in-ears apparently stopped working so he ended up having to sing louder. But oh, did it add to the atmosphere! 21:58 - Just one of the things I love about logbooks. Members pop in and out randomly. You never know who you're getting. 24:33 - I love that you bring up Yunho and Mingi as pillars. They have a line-up structure when they speak on tours or go to music awards, etc, with the tall duo at the ends, and then going inwards height-wise to end with Hongjoong being around the middle. At this point in the story, the characters have been introduced (through the Fever series), have formed ATEEZ and Hongjoong has met World Z Hongjoong and been given the cromer. They're now ready to set sail on their adventure, which is what ‘Pirate King’ and ‘Treasure’ depict in the lore. Where will they go? What will they seek? I still can't believe this is a debut. That distinct ATEEZ flavour was there from the beginning. 3:01 - The turn-spin Yeosang does where he lands on his hands and knees is incredible. In more recent lives he often goes down on one hand instead! 6:43 - I love that Hongjoong is our small Captain, despite actually being quite average in height. It's just that most of his members are a little taller. Yes! The platform shoes! There is some hilarious footage that highlights the height difference between Yunho and Hongjoong when the shoes come off! 7:43 - The flag! I've got say, they're THE most consistent group I've seen when it comes to their story and theme. They've just made changes as they've gone on, adding dystopian, supernatural and time travel elements, but they're still pirates and often make numerous references. I think they're one of the few groups that probably get away with this concept. Especially in the long-run. Looking back now, I really appreciate how Ateez explored this concept in a very refreshing way; they haven’t fallen into the cheesy ‘arrrgh’ hook-handed marauder trap. Instead, they've expanded on the themes surrounding outlaws - chasing ideals, freedom, nonconformity, friction under systems of rules, obsession, mirages, found family/crew, being outcasts, adventure, paradise/false paradise, discovery/journey, and more. It leaves so much room to further expand and explore. ATEEZ and KQ also take the theme so seriously! Each song and album tells you where they are in the story line, referencing a lot of pirate/outlaw terminology and often throwing in sea-shanty elements, all while singing about something meaningful. 9:01 - The chorus part for ‘Pirate King’ was created by Riehata, who also choregraphed ‘Hush Hush'. The rest of the dance was indeed made by the group, given to them as a task in ‘Code Name Is ATEEZ’. The series is where Eden first presents them with the song, and they have to add certain lyrics as well. They do technically go in order but sometimes they need to wait for an MV/jacket shooting/product/etc to come out before they can release the associated footage. 'Wanteez'!!!! KQ really think out of the box when it comes to the 'Wanteez' episodes. The staff can be just as chaotic and unserious as the members, I love it! The people doing the subtitles and special effects also need a pay raise. It's so interesting to see how they all react! It displays their personalities perfectly! While I knew Yunho was tall, it clocked on exactly how tall when he stood next to the other actors! They reach his shoulders! I live for Hongjoong's attempted breakdancing. This, combined with his little noises. San's laugh is amazing! I just love how much fun he's having. In terms of running, ATEEZ are known to be super-fast. There's a show called the Idol Star Athletics Championships (ISAC), featuring quite a few sports. ATEEZ don't always participate, but when they do they're a force to be reckoned with. ATEEZ are far too competitive! Running is one of the sections, and while they sometimes switch out who goes into the relay, their main force is Wooyoung, Hongjoong, Jongho and Seonghwa. Wooyoung and Seonghwa often do the 60m sprint too. Wooyoung has been said to be the fastest of them all.
