I found one of these new in the box at a thrift store $20, oldie but goodie!
Hello Jeff, thank you for the video. I have a question. When you have created the gdb in Arcgis the data are structured in Arcgis but these are organized links to the actual data that are kept on the desktop's folder. The data in folder are still not organized. Actually my question is how to organize the data - all these files with different extentions.
If I understand your question right. The gdb when you look at it outside of ArcGIS does not look organized, in fact it’s just a bunch of non sense, programming language to me. It only makes sense when you look at it in ArcGIS. Does that answer your question?
@@jeffsun_GIS yes and no, i mean actually how to store the geo data in gdb.
Ayy you got da H version of the Blue legend as well. I love it, it's great for surveying and openstreetmaps mapping.
Nobre Jeff, tenho um GPS Etrex Legend e o software estava em um PC que quebrou. Como faço para adquiri o software para usar no notebock
I have 2 questions here : 1. Can I use DTM file to create the flow direction? 2. Why I cannot compute the D8 flow direction type? It only show me black and white result
Does your DTM contain elevation data? Or is it simply a hillshade model. The D8 tool needs elevation to work. If it is elevation data try running the full tool on it first to eliminate any errors in it.
@@jeffsun_GIS It does, because I can produce contour line from the DTM file. But still, it can't create the flow direction as you did in the video.
So very helpful! You do a great job!
Thank You!
Good video! Thx! Just bought an eTrex Legend on eBay, like new, for $15+shp. Came with original box. manual, cables etc.... not a scratch on it. It came with a serial and USB cable, but I don't think the USB can be used on this old eTrex! I'm looking forward to learning and use it! 😎😎
Great video sir saved my ass I bought 20 acres and needed to mark waypoint thank u so much
The calendar/clock on mine is set to April 2003 & I've tried everything including a hard reset to update. Do you know how to?
Same, confused...
I love this I wish I learn like you
like
great
can you do this with some selected feature classes as opposed to the whole shapefile? i have one large project with 9 different communities information that i would like to separate into 9 geodatabases
Yes! If you select the features you want In the geodatabase first then export it into the GDB. That should work
It was exactly what I was looking for. Very helpful, thanks!
Great video. Thanks.

6:07, it's good to know that the map's coordinate system can override its sub layers, thanks.
watch more and learn more your are great thanks.

Great video, thanks for the tutorial. I had the problem, that the flow direction toolbox returned 255 directions and the accumulation toolbox did not return logic results. I had to use the "fill" toolbox first on my DEM and after that it was a piece of cake 👍
Thank you! Had the exact same thing happen to me and the fill tool on my DEM fixed it
Dude thanks your s huge help
Where’d you get this data
From the census bureau website
@@jeffsun_GIS Which year exactly did you get the data from, I am currently using the 2015 states data, but it doesn't include population, thanks.
@@paultalens1195 Yea this Data is pretty old. Its from 2000
Hi Jeff! Thank you so much for the great video! Im having trouble with the Flow Direction stopping at 98% and not getting anywhere (tried a couple times, waited 2,5 hours and still going). Any ideas?
Wish I could help with that? Im not sure what the problem could be. Try running the fill tool first on your DEM and then run the flow direction tool.
Thank you so much, that worked! Now I just have to figure out how to get past the same exact problem with the Flow Accumulation tool 🙈
Hi Jeff, I am getting the same issue you were having with very small watersheds. I am not sure what you changed to get the result in 16:40. Can you please explain? I have been stuck on this for a long time. Thanks!
Yea sometimes because the DEM may have errors in it, or your POR point may not be right on the stream, you will get those small one pixel watersheds. What I have found is that you will have to move the POR point slightly up or down the stream. Also make sure the POR point is right on the stream network line. You can use the snapping tool to make sure the point is on the stream line. I hope this helps. :)
Should have shown how the saved product looks like
Thank you
Hello Jeff, your videos are helpful. Can I get your email to ask you some few question? Thanks.
Hi Jeff, is there any way to download a gpx file from my pc, out of Basecamp, down to my eTrex Legend?
Good question. I’m sure there is. I’m not very familiar with basecamp. But when you plug your garmin into your pc I would guess you can put a fox file into the folder where the gps stores them. I hope that makes sense
I just got one of these. How do I plug this into my computer? I do not see any USB port. Do I need to update the software on it?
On the unit in the video there is a rubber flap at the top, on the back where you plug the cord into it.
How do you find the 100 hundred value ? When i click on the cell i have some cell with 100 425 1200 in the black zone.
You use the GIS software, specifically the classify tool to find all the cells with 100 or more other cells flowing into them. Or whatever number you want to use.
Excellent video. Stupid question maybe, but can you confirm that all projection made 'On the Fly" carry over to the finished map layout you might then export or print? I assume this is the case but I haven't really seen a confirmation of that, and also wondering if there are any conditions where that would not be the case
From my experiences the projection has always carried over to your map layout. I’ve never had it not do that. Glad the video was useful!
I got the same one. But where can I find the wire goes from the gps to the 💻?
Did your GPS come with a cord?
@@jeffsun_GIS No.
In there any place to but the pc to gps?
@@Mr.RyanButterly if you have the same unit as in my video there is a rubber flap at the top of the unit on the back. If you pull that open there is a place to plug the cord into. You be an get a cord for the gps at Best Buy, wal mart… pretty much anywhere.
@@jeffsun_GIS I try that.
Thanks for your efforts to make this amazing work. I am trying to digitize and edit houses or buildings but i am being confused regarding the type of feature class. Will i choose points or polygons to the type of feature class that represents buildings and houses?
It depends how you want to represent them. If you are needing the area of the house or if the rooftop then you would use a polygon. If you are just wanting the location of a house you could simply put a point on top of the house. I hope this helps.
that helpd thanks..
Thank you! This was super helpful.
Thanks Jeff!
great work Jeff! Thanks for the video
OH MMY GOD!!! you are awesome this is exactly what I need. you are a life saver. there are millions of stupid gis tutorial on youtube.
great. how to find the odometer. clear it etc thanks
Even though the screen was hard to read at times, this was still the best demo I found out there, and I was able to navigate my way through all the screens based on your great verbal instruction. Thanks so much for putting this out there!
Thank you for the comment! Im glad it was helpful!
