    • @markb8467
      @markb8467 15 дней назад

      Tbh it’s preference I don’t think many people would swap out the 2.5 for the 2.0 regardless the money it cost you to buy a ej207 the same money into building the 255 would’ve made it superior to a basic 207. 207 is a good upgrade for the older wrx’s with a 205 fairly simple swap where swapping the 205 to 255 would be a bit more complex different wiring probably different mounting points would be an even tighter fit than the 205 is and would need to be engineered because the 2.5 is a larger capacity engine. There’s just good reasons to pick one or the other if both your cars have 2.5’s I’d recommend building off that platform

    • @XD3blaze

    I highly suggest before stating an engine design has “oil leaks” “burns oil” in general, that you provide a more detailed explanation of where is prone to the oil leak developing, and the cause. Otherwise it is a very vague misleading projection. I think if you dove into detail on WHY they burn oil, or WHERE they a prone to leaking, it would have made the video even better 👌🏼

    Killer video man, I bought an 02 wrx shell and might buy an ej205 soon, I don’t have much of a budget to work with so I’m going second hand. Only want to aim for 350hp reliably but would love 400awhp. What would you recommend I do before I put the engine in? Just the things you mentioned or anything else or less?

    • @calebd9150
      @calebd9150 Год назад

      I should also mention I live in Australia and the cops here are like they are in California. So pretty much no performance mods, but obviously they won’t notice most things, but no front mount, bov or pod filter. Could probably run the intake through the fender wall tho and hide it there. But I’m aiming to keep everything ‘stock looking’

    • @TheSubieSource
      @TheSubieSource Год назад

      Hey! If your just looking for something street/ daily driver. I'd recommend Pick up and baffle especially on the older 205's For 350whp you'll need a upgraded turbo Sti injectors may be maxed at that point so 1050cc injectors would be best. Air oil seperator to keep crank case clean. The small things are exhaust/fuel pump/intake/inlet/Boost Solenoid You don't need many modifications for 350whp. Your biggest concerns will be the ej205 didnt come with STi rods like the 207/ej25's. Keep torque low and tune good and it will live!

  • @ronnieboucherthecrystalcraftsm

    i would love an IAG 2.7 long top series engine ! but = so i brought a brand new EJ207 RA STI JDM - short block virgin in a cardboard box from japan - then spent big dollars on HEADS = ej205 non avcs - brian crower s/s valves - springs - bronze guides special seats and top guide seals ! $12,000 + and counting = just done 6,550 klm running in .

      how is the car running without avcs? does it feel laggy?

    • @xrsrule
      @xrsrule Год назад

      Just wanted to correct your description a little there. Version 1-4 wrx and STi did NOT use the ej207. V5 and 6 STi used the first iteration of EJ207 with non avcs heads and OPEN DECK block design. The bug eye GDB gained AVCS and SEMI CLOSED block design. This engine is dubbed the S20C EJ207. It also features the strongest rods and factory forged pistons. From then the blob eye GDB STi had the T20C EJ207 which again was SEMI CLOSED deck had some head revisions a one piece long runner intake manifold, tapered small ends on the rods and hypereutectic pistons, gained twin scroll exhaust manifolds and a double cross drilled nitrated crank shaft. The Hawk eye GDB also got the T20C EJ207 engine with further head revisions as the spec c variant was now the group n homologation spec engine. The GRB EJ207 was the first non S20x car to go above the 206kw gentle mans power agreement, upping the output to 226kw. The GRB was the first EJ207 to switch to a W20C engine block which utilised the thickest cylinder walls of any EJ variant, gained exhaust cam AVCS along with totally re designed heads. The pistons were still hypereutectic and still had tapered rods with a double cross drilled crank shaft. From this engine iteration until the final EJ207 powered car only things externally changed.

    Thanks for the effort in putting this retrospective together. As a person who was there through the 80s actively spectating and following the sport, I wouldn't agree that many top drivers of the time were 'scared' of the cars - if you have ever followed Ari Vatenan's career the man was a legend, balls of steel in a rear wheel drive car like the Ford Escort Mk2 and Open Manta - mud, rain, snow and superhuman on dry tarmac. His co-drivers were sometimes scared, offering a prayer during the stage when things got hairy... like on the Isle of man when he clipped a gate post at +100MPH with a significant drop to the side of the road. Tony Pond also who was the development driver for Austin Rover during the design and testing of the 6R4 - such power in a small, light frame - it was a struggle to get down on the road even with 4-wheel drive and not many managed to run a 6R4 on full boost in a national event except Tony Pond... but I would not have said he was scared of the car. Respectful of it would be a better word. Tony Pond had previously driven the V8 RWD Rover Vitesse - a car I drove at pace (for a living) with around 300 BHP through the rear wheels (in my case), it was a handful in bad wether conditions - spinning its wheels in 3rd gear if you were not careful coming out of a fast bend with a little camber. I could mention others - Jimmy McCrae (also a Manta / 6R4 driver) and his son Colin McCrae - never displayed any fear that I witnessed. I think the truth was that many of the top seeds were increasingly concerned about bad spectator behaviour, particularly in the Southern European countries - Italy, Spain, Crete, Greece where there was virtually no crowd control or safety zones / barriers defined such as the exit to a fast bend. It was an accident waiting to happen and as you stated, in some cases was seen as a badge of honour by the reckless few who tried to touch the cars (INSANE MANIACS would be a good description for them, not motorsport fans). This did NOT happen in England, Ireland, Scotland, Finland by and large where there was more often than not experienced marshalling from local rally and hill climb clubs and a higher degree of stage planning and access restrictions - such as tricky parts of the Welsh Forest on the RAC - fans were not allowed / could not get to these. In addition, it's fair to say that there were growing concerns from the drivers (and marshalls / motoring journalists) in 1985 concerning the Group B car designs - not so much about the BHP of the engines as the fact that the Peugeot and Lancia S4 (others followed) were practically kit cars - a light sub frame, big turbo (lots of heat / glowing manifolds), fibre glass body and a largely unprotected fuel tank - basically a bomb travelling at extreme speeds on poor surfaces and in poor conditions. This is what they were upset about and the late Henri Toivonen and his co driver Sergio Cresto's manor of death in 1986 finally provided the evidence - the car exploded and was consumed by an intense fire in seconds... there was nothing resembling a vehicle left of it. Which is not to disrespect the killed and injured spectators on various rally's of the period, although as I have suggested, I believe that this was a planning, safety and marshalling issue on behalf of the event organisers and host country... not the car or drivers fault. And we know this is true because the Group B cars lived on for a decade afterwards in hill climbs, local and national open events - many 6R4s and RS200's were run in the United Kingdom and Ireland after 1986, largely without spectator incident.

    I would recommend you do the math on how much synthetic fuel we would need. Porsche is talking about 1 billion litres produced in 2026. The world uses 1.88 billion gallons of gas PER DAY. Synthetic fuel is at best a stop gap measure for high end and expensive vehicles. The fuel may be carbon neutral but, you still need to burn oil in the engine for lubrication! Everyone forgets about that.

    Hope this was a free car, because the money and time to repair it will be as much as buying an intact used one. But what will be worth it is the knowledge gained by putting it back together.

      Unfortunately vehicles like this from auction still cost quite abit. No where near close the original price. It's low mileage, we have sourced used parts for what we can find so far. Example radiator is 3300$ used. Exactly though, last year we built a corvette and now we are building this - it's a great experience.

      @@TheSubieSource Yep.....that's what I would hope to gain. The pleasure and experience of doing it. I also think it takes a certain type of courage to tackle projects like this. There are tasks I undertake knowing I am going to lose some money on. I call that the cost of tuition for learning the lessons gained from taking on the task. I will be along for the literal ride with you guys on this project for sure....THANKS for the feedback.....Best wishes going forward.....!👍

      All great cars! For this video we took a car from each manufacture. Honda got two because NSX. In the future we can expand onto these vehicles.
