    I'm genuinely curious, as a D&D noob, how common it was before Critical Role's success to let a player describe a victory or kill. Was it almost always the DM's purview? Or was it just dependent on the individual DM?

    I think this is my favourite episode of Vox Machina. They worked so well together and had so much fun. It was so strange to watch this at the same time as the other group, which had some great guest stars but there was so much tension (no need to talk about why, it has been discussed enough).

    When I heard the first "no" I knew where it was from immediately. I was wondering if they would continue and I was pleased they did. I wasn't expecting him to bash his head into the glass but it worked lol.

    • @highviewbarbell
      @highviewbarbell 7 месяцев назад

      In the fleeting moments that followed the utterance of that initial "no," a cascade of recognition washed over me, as if the syllables themselves were imbued with the power to transport me back in time. There was an immediate, almost visceral connection to the source of that sound, a familiarity that resonated deep within my core. It was as though the universe had conspired to align that precise moment with a repository of memories lying dormant within me, waiting for the spark of recognition to ignite them. As I stood there, suspended in the brief interlude that followed, a curious anticipation began to take root. There was a part of me, perhaps the more whimsical or hopeful side, that wondered if the sequence would persist. Would the voice continue along its predetermined path, or would it veer into the silence that so often follows the unexpected? My curiosity was not born of a mere desire for entertainment but from a deeper, more introspective place. It was as if I was seeking confirmation of the unpredictable nature of existence itself, a testament to the idea that even in the most meticulously planned orchestrations, there can be room for deviation, for surprise. And then, it happened. The continuation I had not dared to fully expect, yet secretly hoped for, unfolded before my very eyes. But it was not merely the persistence of sound that caught me off guard; it was the manner of its progression. The sudden, jarring action of a head meeting glass in a deliberate act of self-inflicted collision was both shocking and oddly fitting. It was as if the universe, in its infinite wisdom, had decided to encapsulate the very essence of unpredictability and surprise in a single, unanticipated gesture. The act, though violent and startling, carried with it an undercurrent of comedic genius. It was as though the individual had stumbled upon a moment of clarity amidst the chaos, a realization that sometimes, to make an impact, one must quite literally collide with the barriers that stand in our way. It was a metaphorical, albeit literal, bash against the glass panes of convention, a bold statement against the expected norms of behavior. In that moment, I found myself enveloped in a myriad of emotions, from astonishment to amusement, from disbelief to a deep-seated appreciation for the absurd. It was a reminder that life, in all its complexity and unpredictability, is capable of delivering moments of profound insight and unexpected joy, often when we least anticipate them. The head meeting the glass was not just a physical act; it was a symbolic gesture, a breaking through the barriers of expectation to reveal the unbounded potential for surprise and innovation that lies within us all. As I reflect on that brief, three-second clip, I am reminded of the vast expanse of human experience, of the infinite ways in which moments can unfold and impact us. It is a testament to the power of the unexpected, to the beauty of spontaneity, and to the enduring capacity of the human spirit to find humor and meaning in the most surprising of places.
