RF7...live video from Devonshire Downs 1982

The video shows the date as Feb 4 1983, but actually it was Feb 4, 1982. The bill included Fear and Angry Samoans. This is one of the 3 or 4 largest shows RF7 performed in in the early 80's. Line up here is Nick lead guitar, Walter (drums), Steve (guitar), Robert (bass) and Felix (Vox). Audio does seem to be from the record but tempos match nicely.

The band here is Tony Calderone (g), Big Mike Red (d), Xavier Chavez (b) and Felix Alanis (v). The venue was some unannounced location in LA around 2011. I remembered it as an auto body place that was being used for a punk show that night. I played with SMD that night and it was for somebody's barf day bash (whatever that means I'm not too sure.

The great and mighty RF7 !
Cool dude, thanks for remembering!
Yo Felix... Killer
thanks dude!
What city was RF7 from?
All the founding members lived in Simi Valley, California (just outside Los Angeles)
@@felixalanis9661 You guys ever played in East Los or Boyle Heights? Backyards?
Seems like I could never get my hands on all of RF7's catalog , especially the later 80s. I do remember this song. The Public Service comp introduced me when I was a kid.
I think almost all of our releases are available online now, Spotify and all the other streaming service have them. Thanks for your reply, Glad to have you interested for so many years!
Thanks for that reply, really cool to hear.
Can I date your bass player? 😋🤙
to be fair I'd have to check with his wife first, but I can say you picked a winner, he is a great guy all the way around!
True punk rock, these guys are a great band that played a big role in the early punk scene. I seen them several times and always put a great show on.
Great comments, totally appreciated!
So good
really glad you enjoyed that!
Circle jerks have always been popular actually
no kidding, right!
I'm glad you posted the video, please don't drop this channel
should be stable now!
I was there. In fact you can see me in front if you know who to look for. RIP my dear friend Nick.
yep, I remember seeing you there!
This is one of my favorite songs from this album, also dig the raw and crisp production. This has been a fun as hell album to listen to, review coming on a future episode of the show!
really glad you took the time to listen to the album, much appreciated!
Been really enjoying these vids, the album's very strong! Where can I get a copy? You don't seem to be on Bandcamp or anything. Any word on cds or if you'll be on BC? Really great album!
Hey really glad your enjoying the album. this link rf7.hearnow provides direct links to hear or purchase (via download) the album on iTunes. Vinyl is expected in Q4. I'm pushing for Oct/Nov and will keep updates posted on FB and IG. thanks again!
@@RF7_FelixAlanis Awesome, I'll buy physical as soon as I can as well!!
Good one, Felix. :)
Thanks Ed, I was so happy to be able to have Nick play an acoustic guitar on the intro and RF7 in general to do something like this.
Great album.
Awesome, glad you checked it out!
Thanks! very glad you like it! Hopefully you'll like the new one "Edge of Insane" out next week!
@@RF7_FelixAlanis I look forward to listening to it!!
Love Nick's playing on this!
yeah everything he did in that band sounded cool.
Totally remember this from one of the Flipside Video Fanzines. Vol 1? EDIT: Except it had the actual audio of the gig. Kinda bummed you dubbed over it =\ EDIT 2: pretty cool that it syncs up so perfectly tho
I agree on both counts (bummed it has studio audio, but nice the way it lined up). I believe I have a couple of other songs with the original audio from this show that I'll be posting.
Omnicron is Omnipresent
At first I thought it was a DAYGLO ABORTIONS cover, but I like this more!
Thanks!!
There is a live video of the Chiefs playing this same club, possibly this same gig...?
yes It is the same venue and we display there on that Chiefs show you referred to, but it was about 6 months after this gig.
Don't be fooled by bad Religion. Say a prayer - maybe you'll be forgiven.
Hiya Felix (?), Fuggin loved you guys forever since. Thanx for all the great years, shiz decades, of musix! Done es the concert may 30th? Thanks Brother! Via the Peace of ShoVe ♧Salud☆
Hey dude sorry for the slow response (normally I respond within two years! But I do really appreciate the comment and glad you've enjoyed our music!
Ladies and gentlemen, mr. Nick Lamagna in the black hat guitars
Right the Fuck on!
sorry for the slow reply, but thanks!
TOTALLY UNDERRATED BAND.
Thanks for that comment! Probably doesn't help that it takes 5 years to comment!
Early hardcore punk, is it Middle Class or RF7 who started hardcore? Also, always wondered if they were from the San Fernando Valley or Simi Valley.
We might've been influenced by Middle Class but the timing was pretty close!
Long live RF7!!!!
You're a good man Derek Moody!
Yes, that was the humor of it all!
Just noticed the riff is basically the song bad religion
Yes, that was the humor of it all!
I'm the original and former lead guitarist for the band GENOCIDE,I want to thank all at SMOKE 7 for mentioning us and not beating us up as some folks have over the years. This record we did back in 1980 was done as I was leaving. It suffers for that, I never felt it captured how good we were(I should've stuck around for the mix). The band later became a metal act and really had a totally different thing happening.Anyway there it is.You guys took a chance and it's always been appreciated by the whole band. Cheers, Jet Screamer P.S. I really dig M.I.A. and doubt I would have heard of them if it wasn't for us sharing that album with them!
love ya Nick.....rip
great song , great band !
thank you muchaprreciated, even 7 years later!
@@RF7_FelixAlanis hey, thank you ! I'm 58, I've loved RF7 since I was a chubby obnoxious spikey haired kid . It's sorta annoying how much love BF, c jerks and so forth get , when there were so many other killer so cal bands . Circle One is a also a fave. Stains, Wasted Youth, Grim , China White, Symbol 6, RF7 all figured highly in my playlist. Then and now ! Much love and respect from Fresno ❤️
Hotcha. Coolishness.
Tequila is always full of surprises.
que año?
Felix, I believe, is the owner of the Smoke 7 label. Which released the "Public Service" comp EONS ago. Which included very early Bad Religion tracks. Is this starting to make things more clearer?
Yeah, we were just messing around with this song. Nick (the guitarist just wanted to play that riff somehow...this is the best way I could think of!
Fuckin badass
yeah!
great song and great band. obviously these kids dont get the joke. RF7 is OG as fuck.
we love this song :)
Fantastic!
Great footage Felix! I had a great time doing the retrospective. By the way, that new RF7 album is getting heavy airplay at Hammerdown Manor.
