That’s really cute. The kids are having a good time. 😃
Love the way this Mbira sounds would it still be considered a nyunga nyunga?

My teacher...
Is the rod held down to the sound board with eye-bolts?
Yes-eyebolts or wire. This one used bolts.
@@rattletreeschoolofmarimba3171 thank you... so much work to make an mbira! Getting the keys the right length and right pitch... so hard. But what a beautiful sound!
This is my father I am so proud of his achievements... I am very privileged to be his child, learnt a lot lessons from my him. My hero and Happy Birthday 🎊 father.
He performed at my parent's wedding back in 96, i was still a toddler then. But my dad also had one of his albums and on that album was my favorite song called "Chipombi". I cant find the album anymore and i really miss that song..
Also, an intro by the speaker would be great
So love the conversation about octave substitution on Mbira. I am not musically trained, but have been trying to learning songs by the follow me approach with some friends here is NZ, who have a musical background , and who appear to play it well and follow variations, as well as play kushaura and kutsinhira with the songs. Specifically here, some examples of octave substitution would be really helpful. Gratitude for any answers to this
Thanks for your comment, and sorry for the delay. I don't monitor this channel. For specifics, you can check out the patreon page. This is more a discussion about general thoughts of learning mbira. To go deep, you are welcome to come on over to the Patreon page: patreon.com/mbira

Marimbas are not from Africa. Marimbas were developed from African instruments like the Balafon in Southern Mexico and Guatemala. This way the Marimba is an Latin American instrument.
carlosmante marimba is indeed a Latin American instrument. But in the same way that places in Latin America were able to develop whole pyramids on their own without Egyptian influence, it's my opinion that a simple instrument built from banging on wood was able to be developed in several places at once. Remember there are many African cultures that had minimal exposure to Latin America that have ancient "marimba-like" instruments-like the Timbila in Mozambique, Gyil in Tanzania. In any case, my understanding is that no one really knows the original origin of the "marimba". At this point it becomes even more confusing because for example the style of marimba that we play is diatonic (not chromatic like Latin marimbas) and are tuned to a traditional Zimbabwean tuning...so things have definitely gone full circle and everyone is mixing everything up now. I hope this clarifies things!
Wufh! :-)
what type of metal was he using to make the keys
Joseph Berniard he's using a steel rod for the keys.
One of my heroes
Thanks for sharing this Joel. Beautiful keys, and I was surprised to see how quickly he went to work on the next one.
"Pfumo Unaro".
"You have the spear"
Matemai does not mention his singing, which is so phenomenal! I like him a lot.
Thanks for sharing Joel
