MaxTalker TK-6
MaxTalker sent over this radio free of charge in exchange for this video review. Some of you may recognize this radio.
What sets this radio apart from its more recognizable brand counterpart is the kit that the radio comes with. Included is a carrying pouch, 3 antennas, desk charger, programming cable, over ear speaker mic, lanyard and belt clip.
My main concern is the fake FCC-ID on the radio. As we've already discussed, the FCC-ID that is on most of these import radios has NOTHING to do with its RF performance, and only to do with its interference with other electronics (Part 15B). BUT, faking an FCC-ID is a no-no in any case!

Radioddity sent over this HF-008 Antenna and M916 Mount free of charge in exchange for my honest review! You all are aware by now that my reviews are completely my own opinions and are not swayed by how I receive the product. This is an 80 through 6 Meter mobile antenna, and can be paired with their M916 Mount. In this video I will show you a few of the little issues that I was concerned with, ...
UV-25 and GT-5R Pro

Radioddity sent me over a UV-25 and a GT-5R Pro to take a look at. These radios were sent to me free of charge to do this review. As always, my reviews are not affected by how I receive the radio. My reviews are not viewed or approved prior to posting. I was not too surprised by the results on one of these radios. The other radio disappointed me. TD-H3 UPDATE!
Просмотров 16 тыс.5 месяцев назад
TIDRADIO sent over replacement radios for the radios we tested in our first TD-H3 video. We will take a look and see if the harmonics were addressed, if the inconsistency in output power has been addressed, and then we will open one up and see what's inside! This is a rather long video. All the jump points will be listed below for easily moving from one portion to another. This is radio is hard...

Baofeng UV-5RM. What is going on at Baofeng?
Просмотров 11 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Baofeng UV-5RM. I'm not sure I can figure out what Baofeng is doing. The UV-5R series of radios finally after years seem to be clean now (at least the all the recent ones I've tested,) and then this radio is a "newer" version, and they seem to have forgotten all they learned on the UV-5R! This radio is a mess on 2M, but is clean on 70cm. From what I can find, it is only FCC Part 15 certified, s...
TIDRADIO TD-H3 Is it really that good? I bought 3 of them to test.
Просмотров 25 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Well I waited for over a month for TIDRADIO to send me a TD-H3, I got tired of waiting and went and bought 3 TD-H3 radios to test. This radio is really good, but seems to have some real consistency problems, both on output power for the low-power setting, and on harmonics from one radio to the next. I show how you can program this radio with 3 different methods. And a cool feature for copying a...
Talkpod A36plus. Did they fix the harmonics?
Просмотров 6708 месяцев назад
We revisit the Talkpod A36Plus Radios to see if their updates have fixed the harmonics problem. Then we take a look at the carrier on the O-Scope at what looks like a new issue that has been introduced. Also, the 8W radio provided was sent from Amazon distribution, so it wasn't "hand picked." I know some of you worry about that, as do I. Full disclosure, Talkpod sent me both the 5W clear and 8W...
What's Inside the TIDRADIO TD-H8? Let's find out!

TIDRADIO Wireless Programmer - Review and firmware upgrade.
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.9 месяцев назад
This is a quick overview of the TIDRADIO Wireless Programmer. I go through some of the main features of the ODMaster software and program a Baofeng UV-5R and a Quansheng UV-K5(8). When programming the UV-K5(8) we run into a read error. This is a known issue that is fixed with updated firmware from TIDRADIO. We then go through the process of updating the firmware on the device with an android ph...
Baofeng UV-17, UV-17R, UV-21PRO and Radioddity GC-5. A look inside!
Просмотров 25 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Baofeng UV-17, UV-17R, UV-21PRO and Radioddity GC-5. All very similar radios in performance and on the inside. Only one radio is actually free from spurious harmonics! In this impromptu video, we take a look at the harmonics on these four radios and then crack them all open to see what's inside. I refer to "manufacture date" when looking at the main boards. I should have specified that was the ...

Baofeng UV-5R! Are these radios actually CLEAN now?
Nice viedo. Have a question. I have bought new UV-17E, if the radio is on, it drains the battary in 5-6 hours even without any transmitting. Do you have any idia? The batttary charges in 2-3 hours with ca. 2400mAH.
Maybe I missed it. Were you testing in Ham mode, or Normal mode?
Having worked in manufacturing for 31 years, im skeptical that Tidradio didnt just cherrypick 3 good radios for you to review. Id love to buy several of these but the first test results are very telling of normal quality in my experience. Hope im wrong.
I have a 5RM and have tested it for harmonics and found it to pretty great tbh, I think you may have got a hold of badly built one, or of course, I got a better built one. Either way they are cheap and most buying them seem to have issues even programming the damn things lol
Constantly saying uh is a little, uh, distracting. Your videos, uh, are, on the whole, very good and, uh, informative, except for this, uh, one little, uh, annoyance.
For $30 to get a tri-band that can Rx on all those other bands vs just a GMRS only radio seems a decent use case to me. Eg) use it legally with a GMRS license (and FRS), and never touch the PTT when listening on the HAM ranges. Harmonics issue solved, and you end up with a lot more listening functionality vs the identical chip in the 5G PLUS model that is GMRS only. Right? Or will it even suck on harmonics in the GMRS frequency ranges? Newbie here, so please dont scream at me 😅
The UV-21 got cleaned up months later.
Sounds like a sad ham. Baofengs aren’t for you. Channels that don’t review radios properly and just say “it’s a cheap Chinese radio, let’s put it through a test which the FCC doesn’t certify on and say it’s bad.” Will never grow. Bet you if you tested it properly, like the FCC tests it, you would find it performs just fine. They build them to pass FCC regulations, not an out of regs test. Videos like this are why many small sad ham channels will stay at 1k subs or lower.
LOL! Thanks for the insightful comment. Rather than trying to explain here in the comments, I would suggest you take a loot at this excellent video: ruclips.net/video/PvBk9BEUJQU/видео.html Also while you're there, you may want to let @TheSmokinApe know that his channel isn't going to make it.
What a b word
Alway this panic about harmonics. Bad harmonics on a base station you only use at home can be a problem in a city or village, but these radios are made for moving around off road, in the woods, moutains or desert. Harmonics are no problem in this case and no one will call the FCC and cry about it. Just don't use it as your main radio at home every day.
Hey thanks for the information! So are they any better now? How much do I need to spend and what should I get as an "acceptable" radio? thanks really appreciate it
Excellent presentation.
Thanks for watching! 73
I have 6 in cart. How do you know if these are the updated ones. Is there a batch number or date that determines?
TIDRADIO has indicated that Amazon stock should be current, as well as ordering direct from TIDRADIO. Thanks for the question. 73
@KC4NWK thank you
I have 6 in cart. How do you know if these are the updated ones. Is there a batch number or date that determines?
What does this even mean to Joe User? Why should I care about this?
I do these videos to provide information to my fellow hams about these radios that don't meet the requirements of the FCC. This allows them to decide if they want to spend their money on radios that are not "clean" transmitters. There is a possibility that a "dirty" transmitter could interfere with other nearby radio services or emergency services, and by the FCC regulations that hams agree to when getting an amateur radio license, these radios are not legal. All that being said, if a ham wants to spend their money on such a radio it is obviously entirely up to them. I just prefer to spend money on radios that are in spec and function as intended. Hope this answers your question. 73s!
Excellent Video 🖖
I like the crystal looking h3 versions,it would be cool if they would make the extra battery's also in crystal caseing.😁 It's not easy for a disabled person to read always the small displays ,Im wondering also if they have a option in the Menu to make the writings bigger or some other options.🤔
Another RUclips says the GMRS version isn't as clean as ham version. Wonder if there's any truth to that? He felt they may additionally filtered.
In Europe minus 60 db for the first harmonic is required.
jsut looked up on amazon in canada. we have the baofeng uv-5r updated version under the name "baofeng 5rx" i wonder if they changed the name to avoid confusion
You do actually have to charge the battery before any power on comparisons. The UV-25 gooseneck antenna actually works better that the other one. I have 2 of the 25's.
TDA2822 is an audio output amp (stereo). I think they are using both channels in a mono "push pull" configuration for higher output. (just a guess) 73 OM
Thanks for the comment, that makes sense! ;-) 73!
UV - 21 Cannot receive and transmit in the range 150.0000 MHz -160.0000 MHz.
I got the TIDRADIO Bluetooth programmer to program the MaxTalker. MaxTalker doesn’t show up in the list. Tried UV-K5(8), doesn’t work.
What radio did you end up selecting? Thanks for the info!
Very thorough review and test. Thank you! 73 OM
Thank you so much fort he comment, and the view!!! Look forward to catching you in the comments again! 73!!
It’s thirty bucks! Who cares.. a cup of coffee is twelve dollars these days the thing is free not 1200 dollars…..
I feel dirty just watching this video...
Baofeng spurious frequencies forced me to give up my HAM license, disturbed my mental stability. I am now an unlicensed cell phone operator.
A few weeks ago I bought two of them through Amazon. when they arrived one of the radios was locked had to have a password to unlock it. I don't know what the password is do you have any suggestions ?
There are unlock codes on google, i believe it was just a string of zeros, but it did say some different models it was either zeros or 123.... Goodluck
As people found out from heleton these are useless
I for one dont care, the radio transmitts just fine I make a very good trip to different repeaters. I mostly use for monitoring purposes but in the event i need to transmitt it does the job. Just a normal guy not a radio dork.
Next time show the screen what we need to see it and reduce your own view .This split screen not good
ff6818 or bk4819 problem ?
Amazing video, I thank you very much, also a new subscriber. I just purchased this radio on Amazon, price is amazing. So I like the feature set but I wonder if mine will have the updated firmware. I will check when I get it. I enjoyed a ten year period as an advanced licensed ham operator. # KA4FLA which was so cool as I live in Florida . So with all the crazy stuff happening in the world I have become a casual prepper. The radios are for local malitia-esk coms when the SHTF. Certain neighbors will carry them. I keep all this microprocessor stuff in a faraday cage. I always want more power for longer range so I ordered the longer antenna 1/2 wave and I could put together an omnidirectional vertical antenna above my roof for extra range, no mountains or valleys around here, just flat as a pancake. Ten miles would work great for me, walkie talkie to base. Thanks again for the awesome video, I'm sure there are many who learned the "meat and potatoes" of this amazing radio. Ted in Sebastian, Fl.
Thanks for the comment! Sounds like you have a plan. :) 73!
So you are saying it's just fine if I'm just trying to listen?
Yes, perfectly fine for listening. :)
UV-21 PRO V2 is out do you plan to test that one?
Baofeng just slaps the UV-5R motherboard and the cheapest into a new case and calls it the UV-9R, UV-17 Pro, UV-82, UV-21R. Literally, there's no difference in all UV series dual-band ham radios (2m and 70cm). Just some minor battery, outer case, and display changes. Don't fall for this type of marketing. I've been a ham radio operator for 30-plus years, and I know these radios inside and out.
New guy here, loved the video ❤ great analysis, definitely helped me, I would also like to request a similar video on Quansheng UV-K5, K5(8)/K6, if possible off course. 73s de S21JDR
I'll try to put the Quansheng in for its own video. I have a couple more that are in line. Thank you so much for the comment and view. 73
None of them support Chrip.
Great review and totally agree with wanting 3 power options. A half watt would be great for low, and keep the other output for medium and high!
Thank you for the comment much appreciated. 73s!
I accidentally locked myself out of the uv5rm radio with the password function, is there a reset to get back into the radio if I forgot the password?
I have the Temu version with exactly the same labeling 2024 version.I would suspect it's the older uv-5r radios with the harmonics problems.
IT DON.T do BTECH RADIO'S Y DON'T THAY DO A UPDAT FOR THE THAT RADIO ?
Here's something to check: My H3 keeps PTT-B active even with SYNC off. No matter the state of Double-RX/Dual-Watch or Priority TX before switching off SYNC, the PTT-B button will continue to transmit on whatever was in the B channel/VFO when the radio was switched to single-mode. At least in "Normal" mode. Very annoying, and really makes single-mode almost unusable because I don't want to accidentally transmit on frequency different that what is shown on the screen, because I can't find a way to disable or re-assign the PTT-B button.
great detailed report Im a bit of an impulse buyer of these throw aways and have a number of baofeng, qyt, jjcc etc I got the 21 pro v2 last week... its actually one of the worst perfornance ones (I not done empiric back to back same antenna, etc but so far it seems deafer) I dont have scope to check harmonics etc Can anyone recommend a simple cheap "does the job" one
Acknowledge newbie here. tried to start simple with changing 0pening 3 Messages on ODM function menu MSG1, etc in function list then tried every which way to save/write and no go. how to you get it to appear in opening screen? Good Vid!
Thank you for the comment and question. If your radio is still showing the TIDRADIO graphic when you power on, and you want to see your power on message instead, you need to go to Menu 44 (PONMSG). The options here are OFF, Msg and Icon. "Msg" will show your power-on message, and "Icon" will show the graphic. Hope that helps! 73
u got the wrong one get the uv5rh pro mac LOL take that back
Dude it’s a two way walkie talkie. There are not a lot of folks even using the darn radio and if they do it’s for short messages for off roading or at the beach on vacation. If people want to hold long conversations they use a telephone! The radio is less than 10 watts and all the issues you point out do not matter except to the sad hams. Please don’t be one of those.
Please sort your sound out, it's uncomfortable to listen to due to squelch muting.
I agree 100% I think I fixed this after this video, but I'll make sure to check it! 73
If you own a spectrum analyzer, your video is not for people who actually use baofeng radios and you are just showing off your gadgets that no one wants.
