That syllogism breaks down to differences in definitions. If you define a fetus/clump of cells as a human being, then the syllogism holds. At that point, the conversation just devolves to the arbitrary point at which people consider "life" to have started or when the fetus is granted "personhood". Given that arbitrariness, the syllogism doesn't hold imo. Some people say life begins at conception. Some say the "spilling of seed" is tantamount to murder. Some say it's when a heart beat is audible. Some say it's when consciousness starts. How do we come to a conclusion? I get the religious argument, but religion is a personal belief and shouldn't be hoisted upon those who don't believe the same. Take the syllogism to a logical conclusion if true, it's wrong to take someone off life support. The death penalty is wrong. DNRs could be considered taking someone's life through intentional inaction, even if it's that dying person's wishes. In some circumstances, you could even consider taking someone's life in self-defense as wrong. This could get into an interesting discussion of the morality of taking someone's life. A simple syllogism takes away nuance, like do we value the life of the mother over the child or vice versa? Do we take into account the ability of the parent/parents to provide a good life to the child be it emotion, physical, or financial? Do we take into account the circumstances by which someone got pregnant? 🤔 Abortion is a complicated subject that deserves a conversation on a societal level, but just running a syllogism in casual conversation to someone untrained in philosophy is just a rhetorical tactic and dishonest. The average person doesn't know what a syllogism is nor what it means for a syllogism to be sound or valid.
i think thats why they started using the word fetus is to change definitions... so it doesn't sound like the word "child" or "baby"... although, ironically, in the latin the word fetus means a young offspring, which would very much be a living thing
Alright, I’ll bite, I totally agree with abortion being the intentional killing of life, but I have to ask, at what stage is it considered to be a human life?
Peddling malicious nonsense seems to be the go-to for the religious Right.
Whats wrong scotty... we going to become best friends.
How do you want them aborted? slow and painful?
Who are you talking to here?
Saying there is no absolute, is that an absolute? You contradict yourself with the first statement. There are many truths were we just take on evidence, but there are absolute truths, we need food and water to survive, we need to reproduce to survive as a species, humans are a binary species, we need air to survive. There are absolute statements just not every true statement is an absolute
Because no one on the pro life side will ever address the bigger problems. You don't need to be pro abortion to be pro choice. If i were ever to get pregnant, the only way I'd abort is if i was told by a medical professional that me and or my baby would die if i went through with it. BUT Condoms and birth control are expensive and hard to get. A man impregnating a woman through rape can sue for child support and gain majority custody of that child. I wouldn't want to be chained to my rapist for 18 years. Starting your period is not an indicator that you are physically able to carry and birth a child. In cases like children being raped and becoming pregnant, there are several medical issues with that child going through labor up to death. Why should a 12 year old die giving birth to a baby that was concieved by rape? No adult wants their kids to have sex. But it happens. But it happens less in places where advanced education is given. I didn't know i had a hymen or what it was until i was in my 20s because we learned that boys have penises and girls have vaginas. Girls have periods and get pregnant. That was the extent of my sexual education. There was one girl pregnant at 11 who gave birth at 12. 6 girls in my 9th grade class were pregnant and dropped out. We were never told about safe sex, condoms, birth control, or any of it. We were just told not to have sex. If you want to lower teen pregnancy, start legitimately educating. They make better choices when they're better informed. Late term abortions do not exist without a medical reason. If they are visibly pregnant headed to get an abortion, there was a reason. They wanted that baby and people should be ashamed for making those women feel guilty. That was a medical necessity that devistates these women. And if you want a biblical view, babies are not alive until god gives them their first breath. It's mentioned often. The fist breath of life. And past that, all pro lifers scream about babies, but then tell women in anusive relationships they shouldn't have gotten pregnant. Kick out their lgbt+ child onto the street. Refuse to help women with those babies they insisted they had to have, with resources. They cry and complain about taxes and food stamps. School breakfast is for those babies. You people ignore all the problems and get stuck on a fetus. You want to stop abortions? Start fixing problems. Foster care is only second in abuse to churches. Kick out the pedophiles from churches. Give money to weary parents who are having hard times because they have an extra mouth to feed. Instead of telling teenagers to not have sex, tell them without religion why it's not a good idea. Stop blaming women and girls for getting raped.
Clear thinking with an agenda? Today we are Nationalists, as we were before.
And the bravery of believing truth without trying to make it bend to ur weakness is God given.
There are no OBJECTIVE moral truths. Every moral truth is based on a subjective goal from which we can make objective choices towards. It's like playing football, as long as we all agree on the rules, we can make objectively good and bad choices towards the goal. But just like when we're talking morality in reality, depending on where you're located, the rules of football can be vastly different, because our goals are different.
Ok Ayn Rand.
@@Voided13th Is that supposed to be insulting? I don't think I agree with it but I don't really feel insulted by it.... just confused really.
What if, the Jews are like, "we're gonna go kill the families of those Nazis if you don't tell them about us." What then?
No...😅
Jesus would also reject corruption and would immediately know how that corruption is framed within actual moral imperatives.
Keep up the good work
Who is going to feed and take care of all these unborn children you want to save?
How about the baby killers stop having sex? That leads to pregnancy! Grow up people!!!
Easy, religion was created by man to control men and women. There is no invisible god, fundamentalist believe their thinking and understanding is right. Plus there is nothing in the bible that is pro life or anti abortion.
Pro lifers should find a new name like pro birthers. The pro life movement does care about how well a child actually lives their life. They only care about a fetus not being "murdered".
That's absolutely untrue. The vast majority of Christian crisis pregnancy center have or work in tandem with other Christian NGOs that help those families in need, from diapers, to clothes, to food, daycare centers, and even courses that the mothers can take to get certified in certain jobs that will paid them a living wage so they can take care of their families.
A smart person will change their view if meaningful, factual, new information contradicts their belief. An indoctrinated person lacks this ability. They are conditioned to dismiss facts and they will sometimes resort to name-calling.
Okay, but here is the problem: everything you are doing functionally and practically strips rights from autonomous adults as well as increases physical harm, emotional suffering, and medical crisis in verifiable, peer-reviewed data on the national, state, and local levels. Therefore, while your opinion is yours and you have a right to the freedom of speech, you are demonstrably wrong.
At what point does a bundle of cells qualify as a human being? Do two human heart cells that are beating in synchrony in a petri dish quality as a human being? Is it human trafficking when a woman donates eggs? Murder if she has her ovaries removed? Is it homicide when a man masturbates? And, even if were to grant that the moment gametes come together that bundle of cells is now a full human being with rights and autonomy, in what other instances is a person COMPELLED against their will to donate their body to sustain someone else's life? Are people forced to donate kidneys? Are bone marrow transplants mandatory for the donor? No!!! So why is it right, legal, or ethical to require that a woman be forced to sacrifice her body, suffer with sickness, joint pain, explosive hormone changes that effect everything from her fingernails, to her iron levels, skin elasticity, sleep cycle, metabolism, digestive system, libido, and more, all for the sake of prolonging the "life" of a "person" who literally cannot survive outside of her body? You are literally saying that it is perfectly fine to force mortal risk (BECAUSE YES, PREGNANCY CAN BE FATAL) onto a person because you are just so very dedicated to the "sanctity of life". Have you considered, perhaps, that a very effective method for reducing unwanted pregnancy is a vasectomy? How about instead of compelling women to, at best, donate their bodies for nine grueling months, we INSTEAD just make men to endure a three and a half hour, in-clinic, minimally invasive procedure? Think about it! It could save so many fetuses! Do you not like that suggestion...? Oh, well, hm... maybe don't tell other people what they are obligated to do with their bodies, huh? Maybe don't pretend that you care about the bundles of cellular tissue that you're calling "human", unless you're willing to say that any time a pregnant person is working the fetus inside is also entitled to individual wage compensation and employee benefits for the hours they are also working for the company.
Talk about stupidity in the making, how can anyone validate a woman's right to make a choice about their lives and the direction it will take but not make a choice about their bodies? If a woman decided to abort the fetus that is a decision that she will have to live with her whole life but no one should have the right to dictate her choice.
Abortion is murder.
I love Derrick Bell!
I'll care about the unborn when we start caring about the already born. A solution to a problem isn't always to make it illegal. If it was we wouldn't have jails. Try solving it by fixing the mindset of people that get abortions. 1. No one is raped = no rape argument 2. Free and widely available top notch healthcare = drastically reduce medical / life of the mother argument 3. Financial support for children and families (not reducing social programs) = removes looking at the child as something they cant afford to raise I can continue, high quality education including sex ed, incentiving families to stay together by not jailing people for nonviolent (NIMBY) laws, building a community where you can trust your neighbors for support, etc...
Your God doesn't exist.
the most essential point in the pro life argument!
Ban abortions, if you can make the decision to spread your legs, you can make the decision to not have kids. Too many men fail to step up as a parent and too many women making men into women. If you Ban abortions, you create responsibility, then again, you Americans seem to dispise the use of protection and that's why STDs are increasing in America
Its a women's right... Well...it uses to be... As long as men make the rules...women are nothing more than next...
Abortion is not murder. A fetus is not a "living being" (see Genesis 2:7, 2:17 and 7:22).
RUclips loves to censor this kind of content.
Everyone does because it's fuckimg stupid
Christians are needed when voting to hold the wokeness at bay. Keep our families safe and our values strong.
Most embryos will be lost naturally and will not result in successful births. To believe that the embryo is already a human being Is to adopt the warped untenable belief that most people will not be born.
I dont know if these are specifically for christians but i doubt arguing with a biblical worldview is effective of its self. The idea of seperation of church and state is strong. I just doubt many people are reactive to making arguments from a theological basis.
WHICH PASTOR?
No try thinking of it like baking a cake. There is a point where it is a raw cake batter and a point where it is underdone cake and evenly fully baked cake. It's a very substantial change, just rather Gradual.
That makes sense. Now try telling that to a woke person!😢
Every Sunday our pastor includes a prayer to "eradicate child sacrifice from our country." I love how bold and clear that is
I agree 100% and we need to stop bringing religion in to it because many don’t believe in the Bible so that point is mute. Just leave it at, killing a human life is wrong at any stage. PERIOD
❤
The perfect argument for this whole life begins at Birth thing is to ask a woman if that's true then why is someone charged with a double homicide if they kill a pregnant woman? If life doesn't begin until birth And homicide is the Taking of someone else's life then Is that person judged with a double homicide? You can't have it both ways
Those who believe that killing an unborn child, are the most vile of evil.
It’s a necessary evil, unfortunately. Humans are inherently flawed, not all of us get to prosper.
*”I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.”* - Ronald Reagan
❤
I'd like to say something about Ohio. I live here. The abortion issue was not run as an abortion issue. Ads proclaimed it as being an issue of keeping government out of our health care. (I could support that!) We as pro lifers did not make it clear that what was meant was pro abortion. Now we hear in political ads that all Ohio is clearly pro abortion. No,no we aren't AND we aren't keeping government out of health-care either as a government paid nurse at a public (government) school can take your child to a government funded clinic for an abortion without parents ever even being told about it.😡
The SS can evacuate the president, they can’t evacuate the 6 million. Is the president more valuable than the 6 million, no, we can easily replace a president, not easily replace 6 million people. The real question is if it were a choice between saving his own life or the lives of the 6 million, what would the president do? Most presidents would choose to save the 6 million. Trump would defiantly choose to save himself.
You can’t move 6 million people in boat plane or car…so moving the 6 mill is kinda out
Why is a man talking about women’s bodies? 🤢🤮🤮
