    Sansón was the family of executioners right through the Revolution too. His family was the first to operate the guillotine and executed all the famous victims. when the guillotine was brought in the crowds at first we’re disappointed as it was over too fast and was pretty merciful and fast in comparison.

    Doesn't really matter what period of time that the execution took place. What amazes me is that you people are more concerned about the dates rather than the morbid barbaric death this man suffered. You would have to be a very sick bastard to want the job of executioner. and sick evil people who would voluntarily come to witness this brutality.

    The French Revolution followed this affair in 1789. So 1757 was not a medieval year. What nonsense. And the king was not robed like the figure in the crime scene. Nonsense most of it.

    People miss the fact that Joan saved England Henry IV on rampaged up and down France, basically saying, "your king should protect you from madmen like me...if I was king, this wouldn't happen" The English, despite having 1/6 the population of France were winning and, eventually, France would have had to acquiesce as their army's morale collapsed Then Joan revived the French, they let her become a martyr and saved France. Right? Well, yes And England. Had France capitulated, the wealth of France would have drawn the court there. And, despite a switch from French under the Normans to English, French was seen as the more noble tongue and the English nobility would have tripped over themselves to become more French And England would have been relegated to a backwater part of the the kingdom of France and England. No longer would England's attitude towards Europe be bitter isolationist, it would be longing for more French No isolated England means no thorn in the side of the French, so French power grows faster and unchecked, completely dominating Europe. And France would have dominated maritime trade as well, so no development of English sailing skill The French never really were enthusiastic about their non-Caribbean colonies, maintaining a token presence in New France and governing through allied Natives No England = industrial revolution is out off for decades, maybe centuries No England = no USA No England = much less of an explorer's drive

    The medieval period is long before... it begins in 476 with the fall of the Roman Empire and ends in 1492 with the discovery of the Americas pa C. Columbus. 1757 is just before the revolution of 1789, so during the so-called modern period.

    Looked up Damiens and Sanson. It turns out Sanson would've only been about 18 when Damiens was executed and he was assisting and/or being tutored by his uncle, Nicolas-Charles-Gabriel Sanson, at the time. Charles-Henri actively sought someone more experienced to help him out, because he did not feel up to the task. He even considered quitting before he had even started. Nicolas-Charles-Gabriel supposedly would also end up resigning after this execution. (I'm unsure whether he resigned *because* of this execution, however.) This was also the first time anyone had been quartered in France in over a century. For this and the other circumstances surrounding this execution, I'm not sure this was really a typical day in the life of Charles-Henri Sanson.

    Not true propaganda

    • @Lucylou7070
      @Lucylou7070 Год назад

      You're unclear, but I agree that this is propaganda. It's a biased report presented as global fact of the Roman Catholic monasteries during the middle ages. First, there are problems everywhere. There are radical groups of extreme licentiousnes and extreme self punishment or some variation everywhere. The story about the Inquisition has been studied more in depth and would have been honest to include those findings. It's nice to look back and judge other times, cultures, and religions as if we are the barrometers of right religion, practices, and enlightenment. In general they lived ascetic lives because they thought that hard work, fasting, incessant prayer for example would get them closer to God and sainthood. Not all are mentally and physically healthy to do such things, but those who are did much good for humanity.
