"Oh Give Me A Home In The Microbiome!" - Interesting Stories In The History Of Diagnostics
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Halteres Associates is serving up a new episode of Interesting Stories In The History of Diagnostics about the microbiome! As you munch on every bite of stuffing, remember that your body is made up of a community of commensal, symbiotic, and pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, archaea, fungi, algae, and viruses, as well as protozoans and other protists, so you are actually giving a little taste of Thanksgiving dinner to every microbe who’s along for the ride. And as you recline on your sofa for a post-turkey nap, envision just how that tryptophan is being broken down by your whole microorganism pit crew.

Celebrating 20 Years of Halteres Associates: A Celebration, A Retrospective, and What’s Next
This was a great video! Got suggested to me on my main page and I'm glad it did! Subscribed!
Fantastic - I really appreciate the varied form of visuals and verbal delivery of the information. I found this very interesting, thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for watching! Please share with anyone you think might be interested.
Great content! I must confess I've only watched the first half so far, it's more long form than I normally come to RUclips for, but I'm looking forward to finishing it later. Its so satisfying finding out the centuries of science that led up to where we are now and I like the tiny tangents, all interesting stuff! Subscribing for sure.
I have a few videos where can I send them?
Honored and proud of this mention on our HCV genotyping efforts in this hepatitis C history review. Truly appreciated Mickey, and let me know what I can do. Now after Innogenetics 15 years with Biocartis making fully automated PCR systems for HCV and now mainly oncology, where we would need to integrate a 2-log decline in circulating tumor DNA under therapy, pretty similar to SVR response in HCV, to determine responders. Cancers are a bigger nut to crack but with our joint knowledge I am sure it will happen. Still playing music and hope to meet soon! Kindest regards, Geert
Hi Geert. Great to hear from you. The mention was well deserved. Would love to catch up some time. Hope the Cancer Cell Load works out. Is it still Red Zebra or another band? Best, Mickey
@@mickeyurdea2996 Yes we played with Red Zebra for a very long time from 1978 till 2010 and then ended the band. Anything since then is unfortunately a fake cover band. I had a band called Elements until 2015 and now tweeking things in my home studio. Too much science still to do something serious. ‘d love to catch up!
You have far too few views and subscribers for the quality of information in your content!
I lost a cat to Cytauxzoonosis. Horrible stuff. The neighbor mentioned shooting a bobcat in his backyard. I've heard that ticks and fleas vacat the host immediately upon death as the body temperature drops. This might have been the source. I enjoy your topics they're very helpful.
🎉
There is an update on his DNA
is much fun :D and of much interest to me having such Y Haplo-type, Sardinia and Georgia both have heavy G Haplo groups today
I want my mummy.
Very interesting! Thank you!
Thank you
Thank you
I can't stand zahi hawass! He's a conceited jerk. And I don't think he should be the the SCA. I think Joanne Fletcher should be. She loves ancient Egypt more than he does and he's Egyptian!
Great presentation! However, Americans almost never understand the protocol for referring to British Knights! Sir Marc Armand Ruffer, who carried out some of the first work on mummy schistosomiasis, should first time be referred to by his title (Sir + given and family names) - but is subsequently referred to as "Sir Marc" - NEVER as Sir Ruffer. That form just sounds plain weird! 🤔 (This is in direct contrast to peers who are referred to as Lord (etc) followed by their inherited title or family name.) Please tell your friends! 🙂
Is Birch fungus used to catch a spark when making a fire?
Congratulations!
I was fascinated with studying the evolutionary divergence of lice to determine when humans lost their body hair and later started wearing clothing.
Killed over jelousy
Before the common era ,ANTI christistians came up with that,if not for CHRISTIANS you wouldnt have the ability to put christians down on a mass media scale, hmmmmm.SHAME ON ANTI CHRISTIANS..
and what about the Chinese culture at that time....????!!!!!.....!!!!!!
I already want to see what CRISPR will be like in the distant future and if another even better technology appears. By the way, a fun introduction, this is how people of the future will feel when they see this video in 40 or 50 years. XD
Must message my Man : many meaningful magnificent memes make my musing morning mind mainly much more mellow!
I liked this. So still Genghis then?
fantastic, really enjoyed the video
🌷 'promosm'
The machine shown at 1:33 is actually one he invented later, called the Oscillophore, to establish an infant's paternity in court cases. 🙂

Excellent
Great summary!
Retired now, but as a stonemason I spent a lot of time on my knees shaping rock. A long term client had a dog that always took an inordinate interest in my breath. Every morning it would insist on an extensive scrutiny that I always felt was both friendly and unsettling, but I’m still here so couldn’t have been anything too serious. Enjoy your downloads, fascinating field you are in.
"10 orders of magnitude." Would that be an order of "order of magnitude" magnitude?
I remember the scandal, it seems so long ago. A very American scandal, I thought at the time. Enjoyed this, just goes to show that science is still the best game in town.
Who picks the memes? Enjoying your varied content, thank you!
Great analysis, thankyou. It is an extraordinary thing, I’m always humbled by what greater minds than mine have achieved.
if anyone is interested, there's a movie called "iceman" which is an interpretation of how Otzi got to where they found him. great movie, i highly recommend it.
It appears he was a medicine man. Was fed after aiding some people and someone didn’t survive so he was hunted down and shot.
I smell betrayal or jelousy in his death by his tribesmen or "friends".Because he was clearly a bit more wealthy than the rest and because no bandits would be so high in those mountains when is logically no people to mug and no one climbs there as a routine because you need resources and spare time to climb and in the bronze age you need to attend to your farm and animals and the fact they left the objects and didn't stole them it's something suspect.
Great content 👍
And Otzi had some cool tattoos .
They recorded the coldest temperature in one coldest winters in one of the poles and record ice.
Umm? Are you randomly trying to deny climate change here or something?
Wonderful. Thank you
Interesting I thought I had heard all there was to say about him
I thought I had heard it all too since I had been following this story from the beginning when his mummy was found. Interesting they keep finding out new things.
Great video, and close pronunciation. ;-)
That's hilarious. I'm from Adam County, PA (home of Utz). Growing up I knew kids with the surname. It was indeed pronounced with an 'oo' sound at the beginning.
Apparently we don’t have a future with climate change, in fact the world has already ended a few times.
The best analytical update on Otzi I've heard so far. Clearly explained.
I'd love to hear your speculations and theories about prehistoric era. Facts're fascinating and all but you sir might have what it takes to say something mind blowing
Fascinating talk - loved the barrage of images - Stock images was well used in this video 😊 You've awakened in me a sharp interest to find out about possible microbiome of our ancient ancestors or even our previous generation just gone. It's not only fascinating to learn about this far distant ancestor but also to correlate any interesting findings to our own lifestyle where applicable - and that never even occurred to me as something we could do.
