Honestly, I've been enjoying folk music for nigh on six decades, and this may well be the most spellbinding rendition of a traditional song I've heard in all that time, even though I understand no Norwegian. Mari's voice is entrancing, the accompaniment is subtly brilliant, and the harmony singing is sublime. It's like being wrapped in a warm embrace and sweetly kissed by an elvish spirit! Does the CD sleeve/artwork include the lyrics in Norwegian? I've found various versions of Haugebonden lyrics online, but none match what Mari sings on this recording or on the earlier Facebook version with the great Hardanger fiddle, which is also superb.

We now have this album autographed by John & Janice and the tee shirt - brilliant souvenir. From the Cumberland Arms, I sent a photo on my language exchange to Luisa (my friend in Italy) with some clips of the music. She was so inspired that she googled "wassailing" She said (in Italian) that she loved your voices and how well they blended. She said that the music was exciting and reached one's heart.She said that you were so talented. Finally, she found this video. Sadly, she is not a music promoter! Dutch also has the adjective heftig, meaning intense or heavy (as in "That was a heavy experience"). The final g-sound is gutteral, similar to ch in Scottish loch. Fascinating, ain't it? Wonderful song, by the way, especially the harmony singing. Was Janice channelling the spirit of Jacqui McShee of Pentangle?
