      This makes me so happy! Thank you letting us know your path! And encouraging others! It’s a way to approach cafe sketching people too. Treat them like star fish bodies that just taper and a ball for a head. You just pose them into the different positions than add on top of that. If that makes sense. Haha I can make a video on it!

    Excellent! One question about the "temple slices": do they have to be tilted "inward" along the Z axis ? I'd estimate those are about 10°-15°, did Loomis do that too ?

    • @AlfieBerger
      @AlfieBerger Месяц назад

      I just do it because the head wedges towards the front and towards the jaw. Having parallel lines also kills the flow and energy. So it’s good practice to point things in one direction and always have a slight wedge shape.

    why is it called an ellipses when it's just a smaller circle?

    • @AlfieBerger
      @AlfieBerger Месяц назад

      The term "ellipse" refers to a specific type of shape in geometry. While an ellipse might look like a "smaller circle" when viewed from certain perspectives, it is actually a distinct shape with unique properties. An ellipse is defined as the set of all points for which the sum of the distances to two fixed points (called the foci) is constant. This definition differentiates it from a circle, which has only one center point and is defined as the set of all points that are equidistant from this center point. In summary, an ellipse is not simply a smaller circle; it is a shape that has different mathematical properties and definitions.

    • @lonestarr1490
      @lonestarr1490 12 дней назад

      A circle is an ellipse for which the lengths of the two axes coincide (or, equivalently, the two foci occupy exactly the same position). But that's not the point here. The point is that you're viewing the circle from an angle (except for profile view), which turns it into a proper ellipse.

    "Try not to draw from your wrists but from your shoulders" That statement changed everything, before I was drawing a sphere through wrist and I'm having a hard time making a perfect one. As I started to draw from my shoulders it is indeed much controllable than drawing from your wrist. Thank you for making this video, this is such a must watch video for those inspiring artists in the future.

    i have a question for you: why do you need to draw the sphere with side to side arcs? is there a didactit reason to it? I trained myself to draw circles in a single stroke and it actually feels smoother once i could do it since I only need to align the head and the tail of the single stroke istead of doing it for 2+ strokes... thanks nevertheless, your video is really helpful❤

    • @AlfieBerger
      @AlfieBerger Месяц назад

      Yeah it just trains you to draw arcs both ways. I’m doing a full circle but just touching down only on one side. It’s passed down from Disney animators. More of a constructive/animation/storyboard way to draw. Nothing is set in stone take and leave whatever does or doesn’t work for you. I just personally find the way animators and board artists draw to be the most loose quick and expressive way you can draw because they go through around 700-100 panels a day some times so you really have develop develop the most efficient short hand. And the arcs on both sides is more on encapsulation the form than laying down a perfect circle. Often they start to draw looser and more sketchier as they progress on focus less on precision and more on feeling emotion and story. So it also plays into the C S I shape design principles of drawing every line as a c s or I shape. Thanks for the comment!

    • @user-yk3cq2ue7v
      @user-yk3cq2ue7v 3 месяца назад

      @AlfieBerger Hi. I literally just started my journey about 6 days ago, so I'm pretty raw and unmolded. Right now, I'm just practicing shapes, stick figure poses, and that Loomis head exercise you put on your video. The biggest mystery for a beginner like myself would be, is there an order in which i should learn these skills so as not to develop any bad habits? Do i need to learn every skill well enough or just master a handful? Once i learn these skills individually, how do i make them come together to reveal a finished product? My motivation for learning is that I've always wanted to draw cartoons from realistic proportions and features to wackier and chibi style proportions and features. I wouldn't mind learning realistic styles, but i figured cartoons would be slightly easier and more forgiving. Once i feel confident in drawing an underlying framework, I'd like to move on to inking an outline, placing the subject in a scenario with the correct perspective and coloring. I have a humble request. Could you add more exercises in future videos? I feel that helps beginners like me to have a better grasp on the information being taught and help better internalize and understand it. Thanks again for replying and making excellent videos
