Wisconsin Agate Hunt | Rockhounding Lake Superior
Today we are Rockhounding in Herbster, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Superior searching for the elusive Lake Superior Agate. If you watch our channel, you know that at least twice a year we take a trip up to Lake Superior and stay right on the beach so we have our own little private access to rockhound. We had a great hunt and found some great agates, jasper, and assorted other beauties! We hope you consider subscribing to our channel to keep up with our adventures, otherwise we'll just see you here next week!

How to Stabilize Rocks using the Vacuum Chamber Method
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.19 часов назад
Welcome back for an OPE Rocks Special! Today I am going to give you a step by step on how I use a vacuum pump and cactus juice to stabilize some of my fracture prone and softer minerals. It's best to stabilize these rocks so you don't run into any issues when you are making cabochons or projects from rocks. I have tried other ways to stabilize rocks, but none have worked as well as the vacuum c...

At 1:30 agates are like fingerprints, they're all different. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous❤❤❤
Thank you!!
Sweet finds, that last one with the blue was cool!!!
Definitely!! Thankzzz for watching
Nice stuff! I love it when the basalt gets weathered out and the amygdaloids are sticking out🙂. I usually cut those too…got some crazy ones in the past
" Oh I love it! So beautiful" ..Bloop!..into the lake! . Lol
🤣🤣 yeah that tends to drive some people crazy…but in my defense, I do already have a very LARGE collection so I like to be extra extra picky
Uuu, i would actually die to go there😍 Beautiful scenery and gorgeous rocks🥰❤️❤️
It’s such a beautiful place, so happy we spent a week there! Just wait, I think we have two more hunts from this area I haven’t even edited yet! So many cool finds
This is what I call enjoying the sun and sand after a productive hunt. 🌞You found some very beautiful and different pieces. Jasper was amazing.❤
Thanks! This was a great trip, we had some seriously exceptional weather for October on Lake Superior, we couldn’t have been happier!
8:17 Is this a pudding stone Craig, or just a conglomerate, or are they the same thing? And I just saw it was a leaverite instead!😅😂 Wait, since it went in the water is it kerplunkite?? Great video as always. Beautimous colors and "Liz for the win". 😂
That is a conglomerate, I’ve yet to find a true pudding stone which is going to be chunks of solid Jasper held together by quartz. I know they find them more often on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. I find some of the conglomerates just don’t polish that well so I do throw a few back
@Operocks Ah, thank you for the explanation. I still woulda kept it even if you turned it into a kerplunkite! I've got some stuff from Arizona you might be interested in that I could send your way after the holidays. Would make some beautiful cabs that I'm too 🐔💩 to try myself yet. Speaking of which, Merry Christmas to you and Liz!
2:10 looks like agatized fossil
Oh yeah probably!
10:00 looks like opal or moonstone.
Yeah it was such a strange piece, unlike anything we’ve found on Lake Superior before!
8:55 I found some basalt with white agate nodule on Lake Michigan but it fell out of my bag and part of my soul left my body 😭
🤣🤣🤣 oh I bet!!
Ahhhhhh my favorite beach!!!! Jealous
It was an awesome spot, it was our first time there! I bet that spot just keeps giving year after year!
Love love the jaspers. The oolitic jasper and the banded are my favorite.
Same here, Jasper is my favorite microcrystalline mineral for sure!
9:52 opal
Really, you think so? I haven’t found any opal in our area that’s why I’m asking, it definitely looks like it!
9:19 I have a large one like that
Nice! It’s a pretty one!
At this point it’s pure torture seeing you drop stuff back down that I would definitely keep. Ugh. I don’t even want to know how many of those you showed you actually dropped and didn’t take. Those jaspers were the stars of the show imo. Loved them all.
Haha you’ll have to come out with us someday and keep some of those! I actually do keep a lot more when I’m on Lake Superior just because we only get up there a couple times per year. I’m glad we could torture you a little again 🤣🤣🤣
8:45 those little eyes are so Cool
Love the little eyes!
Looks like you guys had a beautiful day to be on the beach! Great video! So many awesome rocks 🪨
It was seriously the perfect week! We couldn’t have asked for a much better Rockhounding vacation!
Great video you two, really enjoyed seeing the nice weather during this cold cold week! ❤
Thank you, the weather was seriously perfect and the agates and other cool rocks didn’t hurt either lol 😉
4:35 that was my baaaadddd back day 😭
Yeah you were hurting pretty bad that day, luckily it got a little better as the week progressed!
3:10 Liz does it again 😂
Hush it 😆
The rocks up there are so colorful. Fantastic find after fantastic find. Simply amazing!
It’s a pretty special place, we’re already planning our spring trip lol
Great show, Craigery!! Man, that oolitic is awesome!
Thanks man, that Oolitic is a wicked piece…definitely can’t wait to get back there in spring
How long ago was that? You weren't dressed like that this week! That sure is hard on the back when you're trying to see through the water. I'm 63 with degenerative discs and arthritis, but I love this new passion I have for rocks.
This was in October, we only release one long form video per week and I think we have footage through the end of February…we’ll go a couple times in the winter too but it’s always nice to look back on those beautiful days! Liz has degenerative discs and arthritis in her back as well so she definitely needs to take breaks or it gets really bad.
Great finds. Thank you for sharing.
Thank YOU for watching! 🤜🤛
I love your videos!
Thanks so much, I love that you love them lol 🤜🤛
Pretty pretty pretty
Pretty pretty pretty
Oooh, so sparkly!!😮
🙌🙌
That's a special geode! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
It really is!
Как же красиво 😍🙏😇
Thank you! 😊
That cracked nicely 👍.
I took my time, they usually shatter if I don’t lol
Oh wow😍
Right!!?
Excellent geode, my friend!
I’m more than happy with it!
Sweet. Trancas?
Is that smoky quartz and/or amethyst???😱😍🤩 I've cut geodes with those wild finger shaped droopy crystals, but never colored before. What does that do when you hit it with UV?
Ooooo would love to see thaaat
I haven’t hit it with UV yet, I’ll have to do that tonight. I think it’s a mix of quartz/smoky quartz
Omg 😳 ❤
❤️❤️
😮 wow 😮
Cool agates, the first on looks like some sort of animal inside😂
Ha it does!
Wonder if this would work on small rocks with ugly cracks to seal them up and make the cracks less visible, like marble sized stones. I don't know how hard the juice gets and would it run out of the cracks while your trying to bake it, not sure.
There is some seepage when baking, however the resin is clear so you would still see the cracks…they do have dyes you can use I haven’t used those yet
Good u didnt cut it❤❤
Not that one lol way too perfect
Woow, that looks so beautiful😍❤️
🥰🥰🥰🥰 caves are amazing!!!
Reminds me of the cave of the winds. Okay I've been to several caves, it's a cave!! Pretty rocks!!!
It’s Cave of the Mounds in SW Wisconsin
I just go into rockhounding and found out about all the rocks around lake superior (learned about yooperlite) and then I see this channel!
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy the videos !
The pattern on the right looks a little bit like the giant snow monster on that old claymation Christmas movie(i think it was on Rudolf) whats his name?
Ha it does…Bumble
Whoa! Where is this magical place?
