This is an essential aspect for all faculty to understand in that by gaining insights into students' learning journey with AI, we improve our AI Literacy, which then makes us better able to help our students develop their AI Literacy.
Google: The Conciliation of Thought Framework
Interesting, "a novel approach to cognitive processes, integrating the phases of Divergence, Conciliation, and Diaspora to enable creative exploration, structured decision-making, and long-term adaptability." Sounds beneficial for AI overall.
Nice video
Being proactive is key, Ty Brent, as usual. Currently, AI is ahead of us and we need to catch up starting with AI Literacy for ALL. Would love for the President to see this message. It would be impactful if they act since they are a powerful country. We saw the deep fakes during the election. Deep fakes have begun to affect us here in Jamaica. The time to watch and see has passed, people need to ACT
Yes, I totally agree Melony. We need to push and keep the momentum going so that action takes place. Maintaining a "wait and see" attitude regarding AI Literacy integration into education will simply result in students not being able to compete in the workplace, making them susceptible to deepfakes and not being able to access information in general. Thank you so much for your important comment. Lets keep hoping for this message to reach the Whitehouse. We can do it!
TY Brent for your powerful message on how important AI education is for all of us, not just educators, but for everyone. There is no pausing AI's development as far as I know it will continue to evolve. What I hear from you critical message is the need for everyone to have an opportunity to learn about AI not only in school but let's look at how it is already being integrated into systems we currently use without even realizing it. That has been known for a while now, but what you mention is deeper and wiser. I can think of public spaces like libraries in the USA that have a rich opportunity to step up and help all citizens with AI awareness and esp. literacy in new ways. Maybe there will be more attention to the resources we already have, like libraries- just one example where access is free, might be a good place for outreach too. Start one moment and let it grow! Hopefully President Trump, maybe even Dolly Parton's library initiative will grow... let's all be strong supporters of AI education for all everywhere! TY
Hi Rox, yes, the realization aspect is a key part of all of this. We need to help everyone develop AI Literacy for their own safety, to help them access information, to compete, and to help decide how we want to move forward with AI. I totally agree that Libraries should play an important role in all of this. They are the heart of any educational institution and a vital asset for any town/city. They must play an important role in helping develop everyone's AI Literacy. It will take them, all of academia, and more to address this fully. I really hope this message can fully reach the Whitehouse. I will look into Dolly Parton's initiative, as you mentioned. It sounds very interesting. Thank you very much, Rox.
Powerful message, this needs more attention ❤
Thank you very much. Yes, I totally agree. This is vital for everyone's future. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.
AI Literacy, improving education in the age of AI and the economy now that we have advanced AI and upcoming AI-infused robots are imperatives that the new presidency must focus on. Thank you to everyone who has viewed and shared this video so that we can get this message out there and hopefully actually reach the Whitehouse.
AI is here to stay in chat bats, search and the reasoning capability is incredible! . No matter how the academy might fight it, it's the future of teaching and learning in nuanced ways no one could have exactly predicted. Your Google keynote shows examples-use cases building in reasoning and intelligence that are actionable by this December- that's something to key an eye on for sure! If educators are paying attention, they are investing in their own AI learning and explorations... Copilot etc. Totally agree with you also thinking about AI and then actually using it and making decisions about how it can be used to enhance teaching and learning. It's expanding not contracting our pedagogy, heutogogy, as it should. It's enhancing not detracting from designing quality and valuable educational experiences. Encore Brent!!!! Fabuloso!
For sure Rox. I really like how you brought up "heutogogoy," which is actually another extremely important aspect of all of this. I've pushed the importance of students knowing how to use AI to maximize their learning process ("AI and Your Students' Learning Experience" ruclips.net/video/Bzxz4sqre5E/видео.html), but you are right; we should also specifically express the importance of learning how to learn in the 21st century. I need to work on making a video specifically about that in the future. I also totally agree that all faculty should be learning how to use AI to help them with their instructional process in order to make the best learning experience possible for all of their students. I hope that these videos help faculty with that. I also hope that others in academia read our comments and learn from one another so that education as a whole can continually improve.
AI Agents are really going to disrupt jobs and the economy in general. All of us in academia need to really look into this and consider what this means for our fields, what we teach, and how we teach to better prepare our students to succeed in this new AI-infused world.
Today, November 5th, this video is more important than ever as the U.S. conducts its important elections. This would be a perfect opportunity to talk about AI Deepfakes in elections and politics with your students. Good luck America.
I just wanted to add this excellent news article from Trend Micro titled "AI Pulse: Election Deepfakes, Disasters, Scams & more" (www.trendmicro.com/en_us/research/24/j/ai-election-deepfakes.html) directly talking about AI Deepfakes in the election process. This is an extremely important aspect of AI Literacy that everyone must develop so as not to be deceived.
Understanding AI deepfakes in elections and politics is a very important topic and I'm glad that you're covering it.
Thank you. This is a very important topic given the U.S. elections, but this is vital info for all to know and understand all over the world. AI Literacy truly is an imperative.
Here is the URL for theTRAP test infographic to help people avoid being deceived/scammed by AI deepfakes and synthetic data: sovorelpublishing.com/index.php/infographics/. This is just one important way to continue to develop our AI Literacy.
Nice video👍
Thank you very much, Wang, I appreciate your comment. I think it is very important to help students see that AI can be a powerful tool to help them in their learning journey.
I actually just gave a similar presentation on this topic to university students and they found it very interesting. It created a great opportunity for some real critical thinking dealing with the gray area of deepfake use within elections and politics in general.
Yes! 👍 Thanks Ai 🤖
I just ran a section of my dissertation on NotebookLM, and felt my research question and problem statement come to life! After using several different AI related platforms, I am no computer scientist, I am a nurse working on his PhD in Behavioral Economics, I am convinced these platforms have improved my ability to prompt, aka in real life, ask more questions about things that are not clear.
That is awesome railzip. I really love how you describe your experience with NotebookLM, "...felt my research question and problem statement come to life." That is such a poignant way to express it, and I totally agree. It really makes the academic text come alive and makes it so much more "digestible" to many different audiences. Please be sure to check out part two of this video, where I talk about a new feature that came out for NotebookLM and an announcement about Google's next implementation with it: ruclips.net/video/qEN5nriRwPI/видео.html
Excellent topic that needs more attention for sure! Wondering if a transcript is available from the practice interview? AI tools sometimes seem siloed, meaning you need to go to different AI's to get the fullest accessibility possible. That's where learning designers can be instrumental for both instructors, faculty and students. Offices of Accessibility might not even be aware of the AI tools that are incredibly powerful!. TY!!! Encore! Additionally, Google Glass, - which I was one of the first beta explorers did this back in 2015 , almost a decade NOW! Smart glasses are fantastic!
Hi Rox, yes for sure. This is an important topic that really needs much more exposure. It is one of those things that most faculty don't really think about until it directly affects them. The thing is, most classes usually have at least one student with a learning disability/issue, but they typically don't want to let anyone know. My hope is that this video will help raise awareness and at least help faculty address the issue when it arrives in the classroom. Wow, it is so cool that you were a beta tester for Google Glass. They were ahead of their time and should re-release it now that society is ready for it. It would be a great tool to help students with special needs and would give Raybans a run for their money. I also agree that instructional designers play a huge role in all of this. They are a key aspect in making a course so much better.
Oh, and I also wanted to say that yes, when you use voice chat on ChatGPT, it is also transcribing your audio inputs so that, in the end, you will have a transcript.
@@sovorel-EDU The transcript is extremely important for a couple of reasons. First, students might benefit from having an option to print it or look at it online like in a Google Doc, to make digital or physical physical notes. The AI accessibility that is available supports ULD which make it incredibly valuable as it seems to make things quicker and personalized much easier than ever before. One more thing when creating images, speaking in accessibility terms, do you know if the AI imager generators have an option for including or generating image tags which is necessary for accessibility (low vision, blind etc.),and also the text documents must be in the .srt file format for CC accessibility. Those are critical AI features necessary for authenticating media accessibility as far as I know this hasn't changed. What is fantastic is the speed of AI and it would be so beneficial for accessibility to have these features not paid for but available for everyone. When I worked at the university it was time intensive to do what I mentioned above for each image and document. Seems like AI might be able to do this in seconds! That would be impressive!
@@sovorel-EDU Often students need to disclose disability in order to receive services. This is sticky for sure. Having accessibility UDL mindset has been slow to adopt for sure. AI will hopefully been seen as advantageous to the Depts. of Offices of Accessibility if they have the admin support that deems it necessary and not option.
@@roxannr, Your thoughts and observations are excellent, as always, Rox. I usually use Microsoft's Image Creator. It doesn't create a description of the image that it generates, that should be an easy to make feature. The cool thing is, however, that one can now take any image into the free version of ChatGPT, upload it, and ask for a description of the image. I did that with the thumbnail for this video, and here is the description it gave me: "The image shows a classroom scene with a blackboard in the background that has "SPECIAL NEEDS" written in large letters at the top. There are two adults and a humanoid robot standing together. The robot, made of silver and black metallic parts with blue glowing eyes, is positioned between the two people. On the left, a woman with natural curly hair, dressed in a white lab coat, is sitting at a desk and smiling at the robot. On the right, a man in a blue suit and tie is standing, also smiling, as he gestures toward the robot. The text in the bottom-right corner reads, "AI to Assist Students with Special Needs." The blackboard behind them has various mathematical symbols, graphs, and equations drawn in chalk, suggesting an academic setting focused on education and technology."
AI is a powerful tool to help students with special needs. Please share any additional ways you have been able to use AI to help students with special needs. This is a special area that we should really work on to help all of academia.
Great video! - Next topic for discussion might be Perplexity’s introduction of “Spaces”. They’re apparently promoting it to students as a way to summarize lectures.
Hi Roman, thank you. Yes, NotebookLM is quite a powerful and useful tool. A video about Perplexity "Spaces" is a great idea. Another great AI tool. I will definitely look into that. Perplexity is my second most used AI after ChatGPT.
Great video Brent! I'm wondering if you have an insights on using an AI app for translating the audio into a text file? I'm finding that is what was missing - just my opinion. I'm still exploring this and will use it to create short audio vignettes for review guides for my UCONN participants. There's an incredible amount to unpack! Thanks and please do another! The paid version will likely have the features you mention! This is exciting! Hoping the translation feature or CC is free for accessibility purposes!
HI Rox. That is a great point. It would be nice to easily go from one media type to another (audio to text). There are multiple apps that can translate audio into a text file and multiple ways of doing it. MyEdit is very inexpensive ($4 per month) but also has a free plan with 3 free credits per day (myedit.online/en/pricing?pageType=AUDIO). I have also used aTrain when doing research because it allows for secure transcription, meaning that it uses AI locally on your computer to convert audio files to text files without using the Internet. Here is a research article about it (www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2214635024000066), and here is their website (github.com/JuergenFleiss/aTrain?ref=top.aibase.com). I hope that helps. Yes, I am also hopeful that they will add just a little bit more to this awesome free version of NotebookLM and then create something really powerful and feature-heavy with their NotbookLM Business version. Only time will tell. I will, for sure, make another video as soon as I get access through the pilot program. Thank you so much for commenting, Rox. I greatly appreciate it.

I'm very intersted in your thoughts on this tool, especially now with its enhancements.
The robotaxi looks cool but that robovan is really futuristic looking. Seeing and getting to ride in a fully autonimous robovan would really feel like one is living in the future.
Robot overhears your spouse got a raise at work... then tells your landlord who raises your rent GTFO
Hmmm, that is an interesting possibility. Have you heard of this happening somewhere or are you just posing an ethical possibility?
SPIES
hi Allen. Could you please explain your comment a little more? I don't think I fully understand what you mean.
elon musk is a joke. he licks the boots of a con man
Very thoughtful observations, Brent. I appreciate your thinking ahead about the impact on cities, but also getting students to think this way. Futures thinking! I would bring in one dimension of this. Musk is now a political force, plugged into Trump and the GOP, despised by progressives. That now shapes how people perceive such announcements - indeed, it's the primary lens for some folks.
Nice ✨

Excellent post, Brent, breaking down the use of AI for this disaster.
Thank you very much Bryan. The idea is to help faculty realize that any major news event can be used as a relevant and timely topic that can really help encourage discussion about AI in general and AI Literacy specifically. Critical Awareness to then create Critical Thinking is a great way to get students thinking and realizing the world of AI around them.
This event is an opportunity to help students see how AI now plays a major role in helping to deal with a major weather event like this. Special prayers to all military, policy, emergency workers and all people affected by this event. Please be careful and take care.
I really love the statement made by the Gartner representative in that AI "is something that for the first time in human existence, could change the nature of what it means to be human!" That is pretty heavy but is a powerful new truth and reality that we need to realize.

I worry about the number of fingers on your AI produced images of students ;-)

Yes, that is a good point Paul. It isn't perfect and can sometimes get some things wrong. This is getting less and less common but is still a possibility. It is important for us to always be aware of this and to always verify any content created by an AI. This is part of good AI Literacy. Thank you for that important reminder Paul.
Amazing thumbnail! Congrats you look like every unimaginative, lazy creator on YT. Clearly intelligent people choose stupid face thumbnails because looking like an idiot is a huge indicator that your content must be amazing! 😂
Nice 👍
Here’s an interesting prompt engineering “trick” I share with students - it does you no good to use please and thank you in your prompt, BUT if you include an emotional hook (like “my teacher will give me a bad grade if ….”) the AI will actually work “harder” to improve its response.
Hi Roman, thank you for your comment. I've actually heard different regarding the use of the word "please" within one's AI Prompt. The computer programmers I've talked to and some of the research I've read (arxiv.org/pdf/2402.14531) have expressed that it does affect the results. I also think it is a good habit so that we can retain the politeness aspect in the real world as well. I also really like your suggestion of adding the phrase “my teacher will give me a bad grade if ….” - This sounds like other ones I've heard: "think this through step-by-step," "verify your result before you give me your answer," and "take your time and don't rush so that you give me the best answer." I also like to pose the question "do you understand?" at the end of my advanced prompt, but a better way to pose it is "is there any other information you need to give me the best answer?"

ai creating fake podcasts. an attack on humans. yay. more spam.
That is an important point, got one that can see, thank you for bringing that up. This new technology, like all technology, can unfortunately be used in a negative way. We do need to be aware of that and be on the look out for deepfakes or any improper synthetic information so that we are not deceived. I appreciate your comment on this.
You uploaded a chapter of your book. I have Gemini at my institution. My administration has told us not to put anything in Gemini that is sensitive or proprietary because doing so makes the content public domain. Is this accurate? Did you just lose ownership of your book chapter by doing this? Would the students be violating copyright by submitting copyrighted materials?
Hello Raymond, thank you for your comment. The information expressed by your administration is generally good information to express. It is important to always read terms of service for any AI system being used. Thank you for bringing that up, which is an aspect of AI Literacy in itself. I didn't lose ownership of my book chapter but submitting it, it doesn't work that way. I did it for the purposes of demonstrating how it works. Google specifically states that "Google only uses content that you import or upload to our model tuning feature for that express purpose. Tuning content may be retained in connection with your tuned models for purposes of re-tuning when supported models change. When you delete a tuned model, the related tuning content is also deleted." I'm not a copyright expert so I can't give you specific legal advice, but if a student uploads content for it to be changed into a podcast like this, for their own edification or as part of an assignment, I wouldn't believe that it would be a violation.
My first podcast was truly amazing as you hinted it might be! It did have what you mentioned above, a two host discussion podcast. It has an optional quiz that it generated too. The length seemed to be just right for my audience of seniors participants, for the Intro to Relaxation and Stress Reduction course, I designed for life long learning OSHER at university -UCONN in CT. It ended up length 12:24 Wav Audio file from 30 slide deck I made using Canva AI. I made no adjustments. Right now, I'm interested in the quiz and study guide. Just about everything I'm viewing can be edited. The only thing it seems to be very aware of is copyrighted images, and some protected PDF's. What I did was just upload my web link to my Canva slide deck presentation. It was accurate and added in a few more related tips that I actually found valuable in promoting wellbeing. For my course, I will send out the audio file to students to listen to before class. It will function as a review of resources and skill sets from the previous week. In addition, I'm adding another slide at the end for the preview of the current week. Exploring this is making my own teaching more engaging and interactive. Seems like I now have more time to begin creating the next lesson I'm still going to use Canva... Definitely is a WIN-WIN!
Very cool implementation of this new technology Rox. That is such an interesting use case and I'm really glad that it was a successful generation. I plan on doing a lot more testing with this but I really appreciate you sharing how you were able to successfully incorporate this into your teaching and learning. Please share what your students end up thinking about it. I plan to do the same. Thank you so much for this comment.
Is it possible to control the length of the podcast. I have been exploring and can't seem to find an option to control the length.
Hello David. Great question. I haven't been able to find out. It is still experimental and the Google trouble shooting info is a bit sparse right now. I am sure they are working on that. My guess is that it is some how correlated to the length of the material you give it as a source. I also think that they will add more features soon and hopefully provide the ability to select a specific length for the podcast. If I find out more, I will post here. Thank you for your post.
@@sovorel-EDU Much appreciated. Along with that I think they have to allow custom voice. Imagine if thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of businesses use the same podcast voices. People will get fed up quickly. Lastly, I am the Executive Director of the Future of Marketing Institute. Please check us out and keep up the great work.
@@m.davidrice7698 Thank you David and I will for sure check it out. I wonder if they might turn this tool into some sort of subscription based service. These initial voices could be offered for free and then to use custom voices or different features it would be part of their Google One AI Premium plan. Just some possibilities, only time will tell.
Hey David. I just wanted to be sure you saw that I posted an update to this: ruclips.net/video/qEN5nriRwPI/видео.html I still haven't been able to have it create a specific length for the podcast with the current free version.
WOW Moments! I had many watching your newest AI literacy video! Having immersed myself into the podcasting world a couple of years ago, I would have never imagined this would be manifested so quickly by Google! While the skillset and associated sub skillsets of designing/creating a podcast are definitely worthy of unpacking, to look under the hood, so to speak, I also agree is necessary when venturing into podcasting. The question of when to use or create a podcast should be taken into consideration initially. Answering the basic W's, who-audience, why- purpose, when- time / maybe even time sensitive content +, , important in almost every way, the notebooklm model has incredible potential for educators. Students, I imagine, for example, will be able to create their own study guides, and there seems to be unlimited potential with this new AI model! I am looking forward to having the option to use your own voice and you mentioned that already as promising! TY so much!!!! A definite huge leap forward for making audio centric content motivational and engaging! This checks many boxes in teaching and learning possibilities.
You are very welcome Rox and thank you for making such great points. Yes, there is so much potential with this new tool. I am hoping they will continue to enhance with different voices and even the use of one's own voice like you mentioned. Time will tell. I can't wait to test it out with many different types of documents just to see how it addresses it: instructional manuals, military manuals, academic books, adventure books, The Bible, a glossary, all sorts of possibilities for a completely different educational experience. I'm glad we are in this adventure together!
