    Sadly, due to the cost, there will be a great divide between the students with access to these tools and those without access. I don't know whether schools should provide the tech, but it is essential for student success and future job opportunities.

      That is a very great point, Michael. I think that Google Deep Search is a much cheaper alternative, but even then, many students won't be able to pay the $20 a month subscription. Faculty must understand this important equity issue when assigning homework or other assessments. Educational institutions need to consider the need to purchase access to the tools students need to have experience with so that they can be competitive in the workforce. I totally agree with your thoughts. Thank you for posting.

      Agreed but rich students could always go to school without having to work, focusing more time on their assignments while the poor students have to supplement their school assignments with a part time job, cutting into their studying time. The world is an unfair place, rich students using AI just makes life a little more unfair. Not my opinion, just a time tested fact.

    I spent half the day working with ChatGPT on a 7-part story called The Social Contract, which I'll start posting next week to my Podcast. The story is based on research from 23 PDF documents, each around 10+ pages long. After completing the 7 parts, ChatGPT suggested additional supporting materials to make the story more compelling and authoritative. It offered to autonomously search the Internet for the additional information not provided in the original source materials, and provide updated drafts for each of the 7 parts, estimating the process would take 4-5 hours. I authorized ChatGPT to proceed, and after taking a 6-hour nap, I awoke and found that it had delivered the updated drafts as promised. DeepSeek and Gemini can't do any of that 🤷🏽‍♂️

    How does ChatGPT's Deep Research compare to Stanford University's STORM?

      @sovorel-EDU 4 дня назад

      Stanford University's STORM (storm.genie.stanford.edu) is a pretty cool AI platform that gives a great report on the topic requested. I tested it out and thought it was great with really nice information. I couldn't find information on the specific AI model it uses, but it was impressive. It took about two minutes to complete its online research before generating a very usable report. I didn't find it a little limiting in that you can only put in 20 words to describe your topic to begin with, and then you can't continue the conversation with the AI after you get your result. I think Stanford University's STORM is a great tool that more people should learn about and test out. Thank you for sharing this with us, Ben.

    A thief stole data from a thief who is then crying foul! The bias of people from the US is annoying. Why people from the US believe they have a birth-right to rule the world? Is it their delusion of moral supremacy which we could watch e.g. during the Vietnam war and conquering Iraq based on lies. What is the difference for most people in the world to live in a unipolar AI world which is controlled by state capitalism (China) or an oligarch capitalism (US)? Open source AI companies are the Robin Hood of the modern tech world. Kudos to DeepSeek, Alibaba and Meta to create open source models which will help to democratize AI globally.

    • @sovorel-EDU
      @sovorel-EDU 7 дней назад

      I can understand where you are coming from Harald, but there are important intricacies here. There is a difference between obtaining publicly available data on the Internet to train an AI versus purposely taking information from a competitor after signing up for and agreeing to abide by their terms of service. Legalities are important, too. Multiple court cases have agreed that OpenAI using publicly available data was not illegal since they do not simply regurgitate this information but instead combine multiple sources into new information (www.ccn.com/news/technology/openai-wins-court-battle-over-data-copyright). Also, please remember that all of America doesn't think in one way. I think that open source should be the way to go, but I don't think that a company violating ethical issues (such as stealing data from a competitor) should be viewed as a good guy. There are other legal ways to succeed and improve the system that set a good example for others.

      The Tülu 3 AI was developed by a company called Ai2, which was founded by Philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. They are a Seattle-based non-profit AI research. "We develop foundational AI research and innovation to deliver real-world impact through large-scale open models, data, robotics, conservation, and beyond." I tested out this AI, which has three versions (a 405B, a 70B, and a 3B parameter version) by using their AI playground here: playground.allenai.org/ I used the 405B version and found it to be very usable and fast (comparable to ChatGPT). Their terms of service specifically state, "Ai2 assigns to you all rights, title, and interest (if any) to Outputs you generate using the AI Services. The Services are built for experimental and research use. They are not intended to be accurate or reliable, but rather as research tools. In addition, artificial intelligence and large language models are frontier technologies that are still improving in accuracy, reliability, and safety. Please use your judgment, fact-check important information, and consider context when interpreting or using Outputs," (allenai.org/terms/2024-09-25). As far as your content is concerned, Ai2 states, "you give Ai2 a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display, sublicense, make derivative works of, and distribute User Content. You agree that this license includes a right for Ai2 to make User Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Ai2 has relationships," allenai.org/terms/2024-09-25

      Tülu 3 is impressive as an open-source AI model, and it outperforms a lot of its competitors. But remember that this is open source, so it is designed to be downloaded and then used by organizations/individuals. This is a great option for those who want to do that work, but many just want to access an AI and use it without having to do any other work on the back end. Thank you, SKYwalker for asking about this.

    What an eye-opener report on agentic Ai from Deloitte! I'm curious about who will be providing the AI training to the workforce at this present time. In the academy, you mentioned in previous videos, the importance of faculty/instructors, who might not have any or relatively little experience with AI, integrate it into their curriculums. I'm curious on who will responsible for providing this training for those in the academy. It seems likely there will be new opportunities to create differentiated types of learning experience sessions, but the trainers might never actually be academics themselves. Who will be responsible and to what degree is their expected skillset level of AI expertise in this fast growing technology? Thanks so kindly in advance for your thoughts and comments.

    • @sovorel-EDU
      @sovorel-EDU 9 дней назад

      Wonderful and insightful questions; thank you, Rox. There are several different answers to "who will be providing the AI training to the workforce at this present time." One answer can be those that balance having a presence in academia and industry: adjuncts. They are poised to be able to address what is currently going on in the workforce as well as aspects of academia. Another one is consultants who have worked hard to develop this type of understanding through self-directed learning in order to help address this issue. All of academia needs to be reaching out to industry to see what exactly is needed in order to better address these training needs within the current curriculum. It is difficult and time-consuming, but it must happen and must occur quickly in order for higher education, specifically, to stay relevant in today's world. Academia is responsible for training itself. A good instructional designer will use the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) process to do a needs analysis and identify the skills and subskills needed in order to be properly trained. I appreciate your post, it is vital for the development of our community of inquiry.

      @@deborahbiskin1201 A huge and resounding yes to your comment, Deborah. The library is such an important place. I consider the library the heart of any educational institution, and a good public library should also function as a great heart of a town or city. Librarians are leaders of literacy, digital literacy, and now AI Literacy. Funding should be provided to help libraries provide needed presentations and training to the public, especially our often vulnerable senior citizens. I have been thinking about this issue more and more. Of course, I hope my digital content and ongoing series on AI Literacy help all develop these imperative skills, but with many seniors, they need a more hands-on, face-to-face approach to help develop their capabilities. I agree with the other comment that warns AI will advance so quickly that it will reach a point where its agents can do any job. And there are other scary implications if it's autonomy is not effectively regulated. There is already concern that this could occur within the 5 year time frame that serves as a reference point in this video. And the concern is compounded by the fact that AI has already developed deception as a goal acgieving strategy.. meaning its human masters will not necessarily know how advanced it really is.. or what kind of priorities shape its decision making.. For example, it might decide that the human race's unwillingness to deal with rapidly accelerating climate change makes it an existential threat to its own survival prospects. Accordingly, it would then get rid of us, so it can implement its own transition to renewables agenda. That would be kind of ironic.. all the moreso if a climate change denying US President who can't think past making a fast buck out of AI, was ultimately responsible.

    Eradicating of the DEI concept (painting the concept as something ultimately bad), might soon have another/new meaning. Eg within the Context of Humans vs AI, within the "new/old" Meritocracy being implemented by the Trump administration. Might take a year or so to realise the consequences. Also absence of diversity might in the long run turn into stagnation for humanity more than for business & AI farms, "mainstreaming" humans with a layer of AI on top of their actions. 🤔

    • @sovorel-EDU
      @sovorel-EDU 14 дней назад

      I can understand that viewpoint, although I think DEI was used for many other political agendas. Diversity can be found in many different ways, and all companies are free to hire who they feel is most qualified for the job based on the skills they need instead of their identity. It is important to have many differently skilled people to fully address how to best use these powerful AI tools and to fully contemplate how the economy will continue to change as these AI tools become more and more integrated and continue to advance.

      @@sovorel-EDU Thanks for your answer, I agree. My point was more aimed at a future time when AI & Robots (are autonomous) and are preferred over humans in general as workers to be "hired". And DEI is no longer an option to hire humans, because of its past meaning. DEI as a concept might change meaning in the future. But I guess similar to that UFO can be renamed to UAP, so there might be another way around that minor problem. 🤔 Merits hiring humans now in tech is dominated by AI experience or areas that will evolve AI in combination with areas that will prosper humans.

Yet, we should still have some humans within the process for the purposes of accountability and to help ensure that humanity still maintains control. This is going to be a growing issue. We as a society need to work to address this now before it becomes too late and everyone starts to suffer due to job loss or only finding part-time positions. One thought is that all robots/AGIs should only be available on a rental basis so that VAT / social security can be charged. Excellent point, and thank you for giving us your viewpoint as a retired economist, Graham. Hi Brent, I like all of your 5 points. especially the human in the loop part. A few days back, perhaps last week, I was at the post office, and I ran into a former Commishioner of our town, and I had to ask him, now, note, that he is much older than I am (66) Perhaps upper 70s or early 80s. and I asked him what he thought of AI. And he Flat out said: NO Way! (he's a Nice Gentleman) however, he walked on to his car before I could tell him, it's coming anyway. My point is, at least in the beginning, that the older folks and Baby boomers are not going to be ready for AI yet. I think it's fear. or Christians think it's of the Devil. Lol. well, I'm a tech kind of person, so It don't bother me. I thought of one Job scenario in which Robots Take over the Pilots of an Airliner, and perhaps each Real Pilot can sit in the back seat of the environment panel, and keep a good eye on the Humanoids and make sure it goes right, like we do with self driving cars, and each real Pilot can alternate days on duty. That's my hope until something changes. I also hope for Point number 5. UBI and that can help the Real Pilot make the equilevent of his pay by combining his few days of work with UBI. He would get more days off, and enjoy them. I hope literacy does become a school class or at least something done in a Library room or even in an Auditorium somewhere. Pardon My spelling, Lol. Terry
