But I believe your grandfather had taken the severed hand and brought it into your family. Gomez: So you're saying that Thing is- Ra's: My very own severed hand, yes. Gomez: Well, that would certainly explain his finesse, poise, and propensity for extreme violence.

Never thought about it but now that this concept i.e. the Adams family visiting Gotham has been introduced it TOTALLY makes sense. And since the Adams seem to be unkillable (they blow themselves up, they put electricity through their bodies etc) they can afford to play with the Gotham villains and survive. I'm sure the kids would LOVE Harley's pet hyena.
