AEG the 2.0 8v from a mk4, could be a good option if you want cheap, accessible, and a little more pep than the original mk1 or mk2 8v.

Also the VW "Eurovan" is just called the VW Kombi T4 here in europe, it's the same series as the hippie bus, which we called the VW Bus or Transporter, or correctly it was the VW Typ 2 and now called VW T1, and there's 7 generations of it.

I am Brazilian and I have a GOL G4 (MK4), it is not a sports car, but the look is nice, it is similar to the VW lupo or Fox, in Brazil we have two versions of the MK4, 1.0 (great for everyday use) and 1.6 (Perfect for travel)

Passat B2, only came for us in 1984. Our VW Gol's suspension was based in Passat B1 (1974-1989 in Brazil). Volkswagen AG didn't want that car! They preffer Golf or Polo, but mr Marcio Piancastelli (former designer for VW) has a very good reputation based for his other design jobs (Brasília and SP1 and SP2 models). His inspiration was indeed Scirroco, Golf and Polo. I owned a 1986 VW Parati LS (1.6L, 5 spd) and a 2010 VW Gol G4 Trend (2 doors and 1.0 liter). VW Brasília with 4 doors are very rare. We do have others brazilian Volkswagens. Some very nice, other not so... Brasilia has its own chassis. It was later used by Puma fot their Puma GTE and GTS. A dealer in São Paulo made a Brasilia Dacon (Dacon was a dealer).

Good vid! I didn't know much about the Brazilian VWs until I watched this. If you want another small odd VW, you could add the up! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Up IMO, that replaced the Lupo here, not the Fox.

Shame you guys across the pond didn't get a lot of these cars. We have three Lupos in the family, great cars. There was also a VW Taro pickup based on the Hi-Lux, and you didn't mention the Seat Alhambra, that was the third of the Galaxy/Sharan family

i am from Argentina and use to own a gol gti, amazing car. try to look for vw pointer gti( it was from the time ford and vw autolatina) that pointer shared engines and gear boxes with escort mk iv

Interesting vid! The story I heard about the Phaeton, was that the head of VW in Germany wanted a luxury car, but couldn't be seen to be driving any other brand of car, so they built the Phaeton for him.

In the brazillian car community, the gol ( hatchback ), the saveiro (pickup) and the parati (wagon) use the same platform and have an engine called the AP. (Alta Performance) that has a VAST market of tuning parts in the brazillian e commerce and is really used in drag racing here
