i was taught that that was too much powder. over time that can eat away at the blade. especially if you're cleaning & polishing every month. i'm still new to the art. have you been doing this for a long time? and if so, was the info i was given just wrong?

Nice sword and cuts. Maybe try experimenting with switching the feet. 1:51 the hips and feet are directed to your left, but the sword is travelling in a disagreeable direction, which leaves a twisted technique. Ideally, the feet, hips and sword should find congruent direction so the body can add power and reduce the work of the arms. Just some thoughts. Keep kickin ass!

Is the tip reinforced? Like the distal tapering flares and thickens back out at the tip to make it a bit more robust? I kept trying to look but I can’t tell. A lot of Type XVIIIbs have this and I can’t tell if this one does.

Clean looking cuts! Was this before or after you sharpened the blade?

I am going to guess you used the "work sharp" system to get that edge. The scratch pattern looks like a belt was used. I think you did a great job! That is seriously sharp. The issue that I also face is the edge is not authentic anymore. A true sharpening is also a full polishing. That is just ridiculous for the home cutter. Motohara and Citadel are VERY nice but not nihonto. I think , even for nice reproductions, that this method is likely the best despite damaging the appearance a little. I suppose cutting swords get scratched one way or another no matter what. I'm very glad to see you making more videos. It's been 102F (38.9C) for several days here. It finally cooled off today. I will be taking advantage to enjoy some Citadel action. Keep cutting and when possible, keep posting!

Looks super fun! Need to switch feet for the direction you are cutting. While it's not dangerous and doesn't really matter for having fun... Technically you are doing it backwards to tradition. I'm a lefty and refused to hold with my right hand on top for a while. One day I switched. It felt off for about 15 minutes and then I noticed improvements. Despite being a lefty, I am now much better when holding the katana correctly and keeping my feet in sync with my swing angle. Don't be stubborn like me and make the change early! Edit: Look at 8:10 That's perfect!

It seems that we are "across the pond" from each other. Super excited, I just found all your cutting videos! Big thanks for posting them. Can you get Motohara over there? They are about equal to, maybe a little nicer. You have to pay a little more for them though.

Very nice!!! I have a lotus and a bamboo. Compared to the other several brands I own, Citadel is obviously the top. I keep the bamboo in perfect shape and honestly don't even handle it very often. The lotus gets used all the time. Yes, Citadel will show some wear. I think it looks good and is very minor. The edge holds up on the one I use. Happy enjoying, whatever that means with your sword! Side Note: I bought mine about 3 and 5 years ago. When shipped to the US they came very different. Both came in a section of large blue pipe with thick wood end caps nailed in place. Inside stuffed around the sword bag was lots of awesome newspaper and magazine pages from the region it was manufactured. I kind of like the old package more!
