Guskin's 'Taking It off the Page'
Finally got round to making a much requested video on 'taking ot off the page'. It's just for demonstration and I can't possibly cover all the questions which arise, when you actually start working with it, but it'll get you started :-).

    He was my teacher. For a very long time. Everything about him was about looking for the moments you cannot control, to learn to be free, to go looking for chaos inside you, (not obedience), to start to trust yourself. It sounds so simplistic but it was actually profound. To learn to be chaotic and a little wild. To do the research, to know the script so well that you let it play on you. The breathing was just another way to get you raw, and to break down any distance between yourself and the situation the character is in. I knew him so well.

    Can you explain and demonstrate the phyiscalising the image thing ? And there was also something about changing your position..

    • @jespertrier4776
      @jespertrier4776 9 месяцев назад

      Physcicalising is extremely personal. It's a question of letting you movements and body be inspired by you manuscript, and it depends entirely on you to open up to your body"s impulses. So you can't rush it. It must grow naturally from your readings. Changing your position means add different perspectives, physical tasks, or objectives to force a new experience of your manuscript. All these thing may or may not work for different actors or scripts. The main point is to remain open, curious, and impulsive. Does this help?

    This is great - thank you! So the best way to think about this is as an exercise; a process that will eventually seed the words into you, making them more authentic? So later down the road when you are performing, the lines come from a real place instead of simply reciting memorized lines?

I recommend you choose the most important scenes for taking it off the page, and cover the rest the way you're used to. Just remember never to make finite choice. Always be open and exploring. You're never finished exploring a role, you just abandon it in the end 😉
