Fortnite Festival has been slowly reviving interest in these type of rhythm games. It has support for guitar controllers and the Riffmaster came out earlier this year, with CRKD (which is comprised of former Red Octane employees) teasing their own guitar controller sometime next year. Could be the copium talking, but hopefully this means we see a Guitar Hero revival in the coming years

Great story - I worked on all the Harmonix games from the original Guitar Hero through Rock Band 4, and love hearing how these games have influenced people to pick up instruments and play them. We actually added the real-guitar mode in RB3, which attempted to teach you how to play guitar, because a) we kind always did things we thought were cool even if we didn't think they'd sell (in fact, our estimates for the original GH were 100k units, and we almost cut multiplayer because "Who's going to have two guitars or a friend with one?") and b) Led Zeplin had said they'd get involved when you could play the game with a real guitar. It's unlikely you'll ever see these games start up again. The startup costs for making instruments was insane, the inventory risk massive (GH and RB lost money for their publishers at the end of the day because of overprinting), and the costs of licensing all the music made the profits vs. traditional games much smaller. It brought in crap tons of money, but most of it flowed right back out again. Also, somewhere at the bottom of the ocean are 30k of the original GH1 guitars, which fell off a shipping container in the first shipment. I always wonder if in some distant future they'll be discovered and people will make up stories about what they were for.

Guitar Hero is why i picked up the guitar as well. I still play the games and Clone Hero and have been playing guitar for 2 years. Guitar Hero truly made the world a better place

Hey, you know what. If Sly does get a remastered version of his games, then there's a possibility that people will play them and make the series a big hit again ultimately having the developers look at the franchise and think twice about getting Sly out of Egypt!

i must say that guitar hero has had great impact on my music taste. I didnt grow up with the games and probably only tried to learn to play first time when I was 16 but since then I've played so much guitar hero (mostly clone hero), collected guitars, had gatherings and met new friends because of playing Clone Hero. And it grew my music taste and probably also got me into buying cds. I like these games

Found you through the Guitar Hero video and decided to see what other videos you’ve uploaded. Was not expecting a Sly video. You got good tastes my man

I definitely enjoyed the jakey inspired editing and motifs you used throughout the first half or so of the video. Inspiration is always great and I'm not saying that as a diss I just thoroughly enjoy that editing style and script writing. I think alot of things that harmonix said back in their pre 2010s era was really truly about just getting people interested and engaged in music whatever way they could. Even if it was fantastical or more grounded they always seemed to want to stick the love of music into their players. Think this video definitely proves their vision have affected the people the way they wanted to. Alot of nostalgia driven posts about GH and RB are on the rise these days because the kids that were not even 10 playing these games now have bills and such. This video demonstrates the love for that single idea of delivering music in a fun way. There seems to be alot of content out nowadays that is nostalgic for the sake of it but there's a real purpose to this video and why the love for this seemingly minor thing is actually important to so many, very much a breathe of fresh air content wise. So yea i fucked with the vid
