    Impressive depth of knowledge - well done to both of you. I realise that this talk is about a botanical collection, but why did Martyn decide to become ordained as a deacon?

      Hi @bhadeshia - sorry for not replying sooner, didn't spot your comment! In those days (and well into the 19th century) most men going to university had the choice of studying theology, medicine, or law. Martyn was in the former camp but as to why he chose theology, then I'd recommend you ask Dr Rose (www.hps.cam.ac.uk/directory/rose) - he is on Twitter @EdwinRose3 and @NHAgeRevolution.
