The Cambridge University Herbarium, part of the Department of Plant Sciences, is one of the largest single biodiversity archives in the UK, comprising an estimated 1.1M specimens representing over 300 years of natural history records. Awarded Designated Status by the Arts Council England in 2022 as a collection of outstanding national importance, the University Herbarium is starting to be opened up - join us in discovering the treasures inside this scientifically and historically important collection.

How herbarium specimens are prepared at the Cambridge University Herbarium
A quick walkthrough of how plant specimens end up in the collections of the Cambridge University Herbarium, from the moment they are collected, pressed and dried, to the moment they are laid away in compactors, safely attached to a sheet of archival paper.

Impressive depth of knowledge - well done to both of you. I realise that this talk is about a botanical collection, but why did Martyn decide to become ordained as a deacon?
Hi @bhadeshia - sorry for not replying sooner, didn't spot your comment! In those days (and well into the 19th century) most men going to university had the choice of studying theology, medicine, or law. Martyn was in the former camp but as to why he chose theology, then I'd recommend you ask Dr Rose (www.hps.cam.ac.uk/directory/rose) - he is on Twitter @EdwinRose3 and @NHAgeRevolution.
