Supermarket food in Spain 🇪🇸 is expensive if you are on Spanish Wages, the advarage Spaniard is on extremely poor Wages compared to his counterpart in the 🇬🇧 UK for doing the same job ... for instance the minimum wage in the UK is more than double what the minimum wage in Spain ... so although the UK 🇬🇧 and Spain 🇪🇸 has basically the same priced supermarket food .. if you take into consideration what a tradesman like a plumber or electrician earns in the UK £1200 pw versus Spain €500 pw... then the UK food is far cheaper in the UK 🇬🇧 .

'A place in the sun' is a programme I have made many complaints about to no avail. They do not mention the 90 days in 180 days rule for non EU citizens, and you can face a very substantial fine and ban from EU entry for up to two years if you overstay the 90 days and non-EU passports are stamped with the date of arrival and exit so they will certainly know if you overstay nor do they mention the fact that it is illegal to rent out a property without applying for and being granted a permit and permission to rent out the home as a holiday letting, which is very hard to get and very strict rental conditions are imposed, and you are taxed on the rental income, and you can face huge fines for illegally letting out property. They also, as you found out, never mention the yearly property tax that you have to pay or council tax or the community feels that depending on where you live and if you have a communal swimming pool and lifts can be very high. The legal fees of buying a property in Spain are much higher than in the UK, about 10% of the value of the property that you buy, and it is essential to use a Spanish property solicitor who will check that there are no debts on the property and that utility and communal fees have been paid and that it is registered in the land registry and then ensure that you are registered in the land registry as the new owner. They also do not say that the place you had a great holiday in during the summer and that was lively and buzzing can be a ghost town in the winter with a lot of bars, cafés, restaurants et al. shut down. Nor do they mention that no matter how much you pay for a property, they are built out of breeze blocks, some hollow bricks and a thin vernier of plaster and paint and most have no sound insulation so you can hear every sound your neighbours make, especially the TV set that is usually very loud and can be bitterly cold in winter as most do not have any form of gas central heating and Calor gas heaters smell awful and give of water vapour than can lead to mould and damp as well as carbon monoxide poisoning. I made the mistake of buying a flat in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca where it literally was a ghost town in winter and I do not drink either, so I was climbing the walls with boredom. My advice to anyone thinking of moving to Spain is to rent somewhere for the winter and if you get through the winter, then think about buying a place but bear in mind that if you are not an Eu citizen then a 100% tax is going to be imposed on all non EU citizens that buy property in Spain that will effectively double the price of any property that you buy and all the non EU citizen rules will still apply until or if you can obtain Spanish residency. If you are retired, you might be better off renting a one bedroom property for 90 days in winter or renting a two bedroom property with another retired couple that you know which might work out as the ideal solution for you, bearing in mind that you then won't be able to visit another EU country for a further six months.

Literally the last patch of green space for miles by the look of it. Instead of 2 buses to the airport it's going to be at least 4 by the sound of it from our place an absolute bore of a journey and no dought a hell of a lot more expensive. I like the edge you get with the old bus station it feels like you could be anywhere in south america when you arrive there
