Scotland seems to have a lot of supernatural activity anyway, my mothers aunts husband would work a weeks nightshift a year in his job on railway lines, that week my great aunt would be terrorized by a poltergeist that would shake her bed and pull at the bedclothes, my mother volunteered to stay and told us " nothing ever happened except my aunt would spoil me rotten for staying with her for the week, house is still standing and occupied, this story took place in the late 1940's

I worked in a factory in 1982, constant nightshift tending a furnace, there was no talk of supernatural activity only warnings not to be tempted to swing over the long bitumen bath as a shortcut, there was no rope but I could have jumped across, I never tried, a warning to be careful of the huge industrial pickling tank , nothing fear inducing but I was only 18 training for a boring job I was given as I was the last hired .It was take it or go band and join the three million UK unemployed, I took the job. A few weeks after my training was finished I was in my little canteen below the daytime supervisors office , it's late and I'm on my own when a voice comes over the tannoy system " will Davey report to maintenance office please ". I go and a bleary eyed electrician opens the door and asks what I need ? I tell him a voice on the tannoy told me to report here, to My surprise he tells me to come in and pointing to a long wide foam covered bench he tells me I can " use this bench ! " and assured me if I fell asleep he would wake me up and go with me to check on the " tar tank furnace". I never stayed in the tar tank canteen again on My own for the rest of my nine month contract, maintenance and security ( who were clearly not happy being there either ) told me that there were a few ghosts, the one that told me to go to their compound stayed in the office and issued orders on the intercom, another was supposedly a guy who had swung over the bitumen tank and falling in above his waist in the roasting black fluid supposedly immersed himself fully and died, their was always the feeling of a presence there, The men had told me the tales a few weeks after my first encounter and I was happy to stay in their personal canteen with its wide benches to sleep on.
