Unlocking 60m on Yaesu FT-2000(D)
Просмотров 9 тыс.4 года назад
I perform the MARS mod on my Yaesu FT-2000 to unlock transmit capabilities on the 60m band. Please look into the bandplan for your region and the EIRP limitations before transmitting on the 60m band!
JamesM - AC0C filter is amazing if you can find one used. If you look hard it is worth it! GL de Wb8yqj Don
In the memory groups us 1-7 you already have 60m band access ready to mine is a UK version FT2000 with no mods
Isn't it a problem that the rotator has a heavy antena (with counterweight) on one side and nothing (no counterweight) on the other side? Also, 73 de SQ2KTN
What kind of homemade power supply do you have? Could you make a video about it?
Hi, unfortunately I don't have time to make a video on it right now, however, I did write a blog post about it about 10 years back: project-eps.blogspot.com/2013/05/linear-regulated-bench-power-supply.html?m=1 Hope it helps!
I'm in germany, where did you buy your SARCTRAC MK3? I can't find a link to buy in europe?
I bought it through the official website, I believe it was Australia...
Hi James, do you still own this transceiver? How does it perform in busy band without AC0C roofing filter (if you don't have one)? Thanks 73s
Hi, indeed, I still own it and it doesn't have the roofing filter. During normal operation or DXing, I never felt any difficulties, however, during contesting, my FTDX10 indeed performs much better. However, due to the ergonomic design, I still prefer in the end the FT2000.
Thank you very much James. This has been a wonderful tutorial.
What radio do you have the computer connected to?
It's an old radio: Yaesu FT-736R
Hi, nice video. Any idea if sartrac Mk3 works with ham radio deluxe ?
Wish SO-50 sounded like that here is the US. It is a total mad house. Everyone steps on everyone
Hi, Great video I am just setting mine up. Have tried putty and got the motors to move as you did. Now trying to setuo Satpc32 but cannot get it to work. Could you give me some starters....thank you
Hello, what kind of stepper motors are you using?
Thanks for the nice video. i am just getting into satellites my self and have been looking for a good auto beam controller. SARCTRAC seems to be the way to go. Plan on mounting the beam at the top of my roof.
James, thank you for sharing your build with us. I’m just waiting for one to become available. I’m a child of the 50’s and the Mercury 7 were my new hero’s. (Sorry Lone Ranger and Tonto) W2FTR 73
Thanks for your comment Frederick, appreciated. Good luck with your build. 73s DE OT5Z
Super contribution. I forgot to start with PUTTY. You helped me so much. And a very easy instruction to build up this rotator. Mny tnx, 73
Thank you for the feedback, glad it was of help to you!
Mt FT-2000 doesn't swing the meter to power output when I transmit. It falls all the way to the left. This is my 3rd FT-2000 and none of them have swung the power meter to output level. Is there a menu setting for that? I didn't see anything in the manual about it. Awesome video!
On the left on the front of transceiver, under the 'MONI' button, there is a rotary knob which dictates what the meter will show on transmit. Have you tried toggling this switch? If the meter falls to zero, I assume yours is set to 'SWR'. You should instead try to set it to 'PO', which stands for Power Output. Does this help?
Thank you very much James for the video. I bought the MK3 and have had it for 1 month. I have only done the test in the bank so everything you explain will help me a lot. Happy New Year, 73
Good luck building the comlete system! Thanks for the kind words and Happy New Year to you too.
I've made something very similar to this, except it uses an ESP32, geared stepper motors and wifi for rotator communication. What is the sensor, a magnetometer and a gyro? I guess they are none-ferrous bolts for a counterbalance? Do you read the sensor during a pass? Doesn't the RF interfere with the sensor when you TX? Looks good :)
The manual describes the sensor as 'Absolute position sensing 3D Magnetometer/Accelerometer'. You are right, I should use non-ferrous bolts, but they are not. It is what I had available, and it works, but I agree, it is a point for improvement. Don't know yet if the RF interferes with the sensor when TXing, I'll find out soon.
@@JamesMegaWatt thanks for your reply :) I get interference on mine when I TX, so I use the sensor to find North and level. I use stepper motors on mine so count the steps to keep track of where it's pointing. I was using 3D printed planetary gearboxes but have recently taken delivery of small commercial ones from China that have very little play on them, so it will be interesting to see how well these work. Any way, congratulations on your rotator, it looks good :)
Hello. A friend of mine who owns this machine told me that he has two problems. One of them is with his s-meter. If a signal near you is relatively strong and brings you 9 + 30db, the instrument "crazy" and instead of showing 9 + 30db the real signal, it goes to 9 + 60db. The second is with NB, which when you put it, then it starts and puts you, parasitic emissions from adjacent frequencies, in the one you are listening to. Can you tell me if you have noticed something like that.
First problem I haven't encountered, but make sure you configure your RF gain knob correctly, it influences the reading, and too much gain might overload it. Regarding the NB: I never got significant improvement from it, so I'm not using it. It's possible, but I haven't read similar reports online. Does he have the latest firmware on his machine? 73s
Very handy, finally someone in the community who is giving the needed information on this topic. This will help out plenty of radio amateurs. Thank you for explaining!
