I’m really shocked that “ in Christ” you would leave out so many details that were strictly your choices- not to work, to insist on going to Mancos, and isolate Doug from everything he ever knew. You played the victim card and loved the attention. He did not have multiple affairs and you isolated his boys from him by parental alienation. It saddens me that you lied in your testimony and that very private and personal information would be made public. Doesn’t strike me as “ of God”.

I want to hear testimonies from people who are recovered drug addicts. I want to hear testimonies from people who were married to drug addicts and had their lives destroyed by that addict. Maybe once hear testimony of an addict who destroyed somebody's life and then went back and did something to make the situation right.

I don’t feel AA, NA, & etc. meetings are for everyone. I have a dream to create a space where sober people can just go to hang out, enjoy themselves, and support each other without such a structured environment, a home away from home. My mission is to provide a relaxing place where sober people can congregate and just talk about whatever they wish to whomever they want and not have to feel the pressure of speaking in front of a crowd, which is what takes place at AA or NA meetings. It would be a place to go to after work, when one awakes, or after dinner. No set time. Not a place where people sit in a crowd of their peers looking like they do not really want to be there, or you can tell most of them do not want to hear or care what you would like to share. I know I personally would love to get out of work and go hang out and talk with sober friends and joke around, smile, do some gaming, or talk about something bothering me with a friend instead of observers. It’s hard to make friends and establish a network when sitting in a group, allowing only one person to speak at a time while everyone else barely cracks a smile. The actives I’d provide would be both for pleasure and self-growth. I grew up not believing in myself. I did not believe I had what it takes to get good grade when attending grade school so I stopped trying and did completely nothing starting about 6th grade and eventually quit school at the age of 16. Later in life, after multiple ups and downs of life’s lessons I decided I wanted to prove myself wrong and go to college. I got a GED book and did a little studying. I was really proud and surprised to pass the tests on the first attempt. So, now I was eligible to take my chances at disappointing myself by failure or being more proud of myself than I’d ever been in my life by going to college and succeeding. Long story short, I graduated with honors and essentially with a sixth grade education. I’d love to provide support to sober individuals looking to better their lives and developing opportunities for their future. I’d personally help individuals study for a GED and aid quarries to student grants/loans if one has aspirations to further their education. I believe a children’s play area would be great amenity. Both couples and single parents alike sometimes find it difficult to find the time to get that much needed adult social engagement. Providing a section for children would not only allow parents to get out and get their sober support but also enables the newly sober individual to spend time with their child and remind themselves why they’re trying so hard to remain sober. And finally for the self-growth section, my personal favorite, A GYM!!! Without exercise I don’t know if I would be here today! The gym is my outlet. It allows me to forget about all my problems and release stress, plus the added bonus is that I get to look good and feel great about myself!! I believe, especially for those in early recovery, a boost of confidence through health and fitness provides certain pride that can’t be duplicated, manufactured, or taken by anyone!! These men and women will be able to better themselves by being supporting and enabling their peers through pushing each other to commitments and consistency of their efforts. I consider this an important part of my mission. It would be a considerable part of the donations, but I believe whole heartedly a necessary one. I want this establishment to not just provide a haven for people to laugh, smile, and congregate but to also provide a club. A place to enjoy themselves and improve themselves!!! For fun and relaxation there will be couches and televisions for those whom what to just plop their butts on the couch after a long day’s work but don’t want to do so alone at home. They can come anytime, stay as long as they wish, again a haven/club. Other attractions will be a pool table, ping pong table, X-box, etc… My thoughts (but not yet set in stone) in reference to generating income to keep the facility afloat are as follows. Possibly constituting a membership program such as a gym would do. An undetermined amount per month gets an individual full access to all amenities. Nonmembers pay a low affordable rate such as $2 to enter and also enjoy full access. I would have sober dance nights for those whom love to dance but find it unwise to attend dance clubs where the majority are consuming alcohol. These dances will generate income at the door, as will pig roasts/summer parties and any other activities I could think up to get people together and share sober comradely. I’d like to have a kitchen and a decent menu. It would be nice to have whole families come in and order a pizza/etc. Or a few buddies that just finished working out to sit, relax, and grab a bit before they go about their day. The kitchen would generate a significant contribution towards keeping things running. I will need to rent or establish a mortgage, I’ll need money to keep up with payments until word gets out or memberships accumulate, an array of permits, gym equipment, cash register & develop membership bank account withdraws, a kitchen with necessary tools such as pots, pans, knives, & etc., also chairs & tables, couches, televisions, X-box, pool table, ping pong table, children’s section, wall mounted speakers for dance nights. If I am able to purchase all I intend to and have a great response on generating income, any leftover donated money will not go in my pocket. It will be invested either into the club or used in a manner that will put smiles on people whom are in need. GoFundMe is to help people and fulfill dreams. I believe a facility like my dream could easily be reality and without a doubt help addicts stay sober and connected to a network that will support them through trials, help improve mental & physical health, and uplift ones spirit. Remember there is no donation too small!!
