    Hello, Robin: I hope you are doing well. A fellow opera and musical theater lover, as well as a person with a disability, I appreciate your operatic accessibility videos; in fact, much of this information is something that I wish presented itself when I began my exposure to classical music at just seven years of age. Three of my favorite operas include La fille du régiment, Tales of Hoffman, Carmen, and Tosca. If I may ask, why are there no videos of you singing? Best regards, Cole

    Yay, you're back! Another thing I would add would be to be respectful of people's specific needs, particularly if they have a non-physical or at least "invisible" disability (e.g. autism). TL;DR, don't be a meanie! I had a screaming meltdown yesterday, and I'm still really scared of ruining my vocal cords, though these happen rarely for me. Anyway, happy birthday! Also: the return of Borb!

    At Savonlinna Opera Festival, I was a stunt double for one of the performers suffering from double vision due to brain damage. There was a scene where he and some others were going to do a parade walk in capes and masks, so he had no way to walk in sync with the rest of the group on that uneven medieval castle floor. There are all kinds of ways to make it work. Thank you for another informative and fun video. I have a little opera collective of my own now, and I hope we can at least take some of these improvements with us.

      That's amazing - so excited to hear you may be able to use some of these! :) And that you were able to make it work for that other performer, too - it always turns out that there are ways to make it work, if people put their minds and hearts to it!

      @@robinhahnsopran Openness about disabilities and willingness to work around them is the key. Last season at Svenska Teatern in Helsinki, we had a play all in Swedish sign language, audio narrated in Finnish, surtitles in Swedish and Finnish, the mute and blind had all their personal interpreters. In the lobby we had miniatures of the sets, and dolls wearing stage costumes, so the blind could touch and feel what everything looks like. Happiest theater guests ever 😊 ❤️

    I studied voice at college and right before graduation discovered that i was most likely a coloratura mezzo soprano when studying some Rossini for my senior recital. However, except for a small summer program a few years later, that was the last I've sung classically in public. I was an older student, and often wish i would have discovered that this was my voice type much earlier in life. But, I still work on this repertoire from time to time for my own enjoyment.

    Is Guano Apes singer is mezzo soprano or contralto? Am I understand right that there could be at least 3 categories of Bass-baritones: 1) Zwisch (mix between bass and baritone); 2) Bass that have ability to sing baritone range also; 3) Baritone that have ability to sing bass range also? Or all 3 categories would be just Zwisch?

    I have a bunch of rare, life-threatening medical problems, including needing an organ transplant, yet have an otherwise normal outward appearance. Unfortunately, not looking disabled has made me continue to fight the social security administration since my 20's - now, over 15 years to get disability benefits. The fact is that I want to work, but frequent hypoglycemic seizures prevent this and I am a licensed nurse // emt with multiple college degrees. Fortunately, my state expanded medicaid coverage and at least I don't have to worry about going broke over my life support drugs.

    So Coloratura Mezzos are sopranos right?

  • @jondavwal13
    @jondavwal13 5 месяцев назад

    The greatest opera singers are the ones who defy classification. Sutherland and Callas could barely be categorized yet both could sang anything and everything better than anybody else. Vocally, Sutherland was probably the greatest of EVERY fach through difference phases of her career culminating in a Turandot that is probably the finest ever recorded. Price, largely regarded as the greatest spinto ever, is criticized for not really being a spinto at all. In the long run I don't think these categories help much but I'm not criticising the video. A role might surprisingly click with a singer who seemed to be a completely different kind of soprano. When I was a young singer (and I'm not a soprano) I would go to a new voice teacher who would tell me what a lovely baritone I had and as we vocalized for them to get a sense of my voice and they started to hear the turn over above F# and as I continued upward an octave above that every single one said "Jesus, you're a tenor. I would never have known from what the middle of your voice sounded like."
