1994 +2004 - Episode 2 - Clutch Cat
In another episode celebrating albums from 1994 and 2004, Somewhere in Time focuses primarily on the 2004 album Blast Tyrant by Clutch. Joe and Keith recently attended a Clutch concert celebrating this album by playing it in its entirety and this is one of many topics discussed on this episode. Keith takes over as the primary host for the discuss on the album from 1994. Too difficult to try to explain here, so you'll just have to listen.

I was surprised to hear one of you guys say Robot Hive / Exodus was one of the worst Clutch albums. That album is number two after Blast Tyrant (IMO)
That was me (Eric). Honestly, there isn't a bad Clutch album. It's just my least favorite 🤷🏼♂️
My 20 year old daughter loves slipknot. 😂
She has great taste :)
I can't hear the song Superunknown without thinking about the video game Road Rash. It had a decent soundtrack and was fun to play.
Nice one guys, thanks!
Love this album! Joe needs to calm the fuck down.
haha, in what was does he need to calm down?
@@SomewhereinTimePodcast It's sarcasm...
Great riff
Nice
I was ecstatic waiting for this release. Bostaph was my fav thrash drummer back then with Forbidden. I knew he would put intricate and thought into the work. Lombardo to me was always controlled chaos. This is still my favorite album in their catalog. I needed this in 94 with all the lame radio metal that was taking over. I punted many DeWalt radios on the job sites the next 5-6 years. Title track is my favorite along with 213 🤘🏻
Best podcast, despite being totally freejacking
This is an essential am radio style podcast. Amazing album topics so far in that metal/alt sweet spot
My favorite band and my favorite album. Interesting to hear everyone's opinions. Oh... go see Metallica live, Naomi!!
It's a great one to pick as your favorite. Thanks for checking out the podcast. Hopefully it was entertaining for you!
I loved this! Thank you! Being a Līve fan since '94, I knew a lot of these stories, but it's still great to hear them! My 1st Līve concert was at the Spectrum in Philly with PJ Harvey. I believe there was a brick at the 210 studio from that show, sitting behind the bar. I got a picture with it when I attended the NYE party at The Strand in 2016-2017. 😊 The sofa set up on stage with the books and candles was amazing during the TC tour! That night, I fell in love with Pillar of Davidson. I remember getting in my car afterward, popping in Throwing Copper, and playing it over and over. I tend to not focus on the guys' personal lives and just stick to enjoying the music. I do hope things get worked out, though, because it's magic when the 4 of them are on stage. 🎶
AWESOME Episode! Real talk and Chad is a huge influence as well. I used to play TC from front to back in my drum room with the lights off cause it was such an amazing vibe! I learned how to "feel" the music playing along to CG!
That sucked
Then I'd reccomend inhuman creation station.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Always have and always will love this song
Hello that riff is so hard and so amazing. Keep it coming
Thank god for Headbangers Ball, or I would not have even known about Wrathchild America. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who tried to watch the Midnight Special only to wake up as the credits were rolling. Nice job, guys. Good energy!
Thanks! Headbangers Ball was an essential part of our lives, too. It's too bad there's really nothing like that out there these days.
Legend!!
Let’s fucking go my favorite band
Hey guys..great discussion-just curious what age were you guys when TNOTB came out in ‘82? I was 13 and it was the most mind blowing experience at the time-NOTHING even came close to this up to that point!
I (Eric) was only 6 going on 7. Tim is about 4 years older than me. I didn't really discover this album until I got into metal, which was around age 12.
WHO ARE THESE PPL IN MY YT FEED. ???? BEEN FAN SINCE 84. I'm just happy they're still making new music at 60 I'm 55 happy to hear it still. Say this maybe the last decade for them. Hopefully not JS. Metallica till the END OF LINE
Guys great interview, Craig is a total boss. Forbidden is top tier thrash band for sure. And what a nice guy, love hearing him gush about VOIVOD. The Outer Limits is near and dear to me it was a fucked up time in my life, working third shift in a print shop, partying like crazy, trying to sleep during the day in a relative’s hot ass attic. I had a boombox and would get trashed and try to fall asleep to this CD. What a summer and every time I hear The Outer Limits it takes me right back. Oh and my family and I were at that Ottobar show you were talking about, and actually got to meet the band before the show. They were so fucking nice to us, huge huge respect to these legends 🤟👽
Thanks! We've had the honor to have Craig on a couple other episodes and he has so much great information and firsthand experience, that it always makes our job easy. That sounds like a wild summer. It's always amazing to me how music can transport us directly to a specific period of our life and bring back very vivid memories. Hopefully Voivod comes back to the states at some point in the next few years. I would love to see them again. They were so good at that Ottobar show.
This RULED. (Voivod's one of those bands where it's easy to think that you're the only person in the world that see their genius and LOVES them.... this is obviously 'not' the case, but, as a listener/fan, there's a unique connection with what they're doing; very different from the connection with any other band... LOUD shout of love and respect to Piggy, and long live Voivod.) \m/, (*o*) ,\m/
You guy's must really like the year 1993. I think the last two show were 1993 albums. It's definitely an interesting year for music, for better or for worse. Thanks for the show ya'll do a great job.
Thank you! Yes, each year we discuss albums that are celebrating milestone anniversaries, and we are doing 30 year anniversaries this year. We do plan to discuss 1973 albums before the end of the year as well. Thanks for your support!
And the sound of the snare on horrorscope is exactly how I would want it.
Horrorscope had some of the best guitars I've heard on any album
Man, one of you four yay-who's need to learn the art of conversation. Keep it flowing, have some questions prepared, come out of a somber moment to keep the energy up. Keith is correct about Fishbone, though!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure I understand the "one of you four yay" comment. We have been a huge fan of Brad and his band for years, so we did have a lot of questions prepared. I'm not sure if you watched the entire interview. But, we are always striving to improve, so once again thanks for the feedback.
I don't know if this is on my end, but there is no audio on your riffs of the day.
Thanks... I guess RUclips has been removing sound because of copyright issues. Ugh
no fucking sound
Love this riff alot as a tool fan
If a local band played that riff and wrote that song no one would like it
I sure as hell would!!
Hell Shit Yeaaah
Try annihilator's first 2 albums.
Hellbilly Deluxe
My fave
Classic
I love them now. I never really listened to Natalie’s but I love this new album 10/10
Eric, put more clips like this up. Cheers! Would love to be back on!
Thanks man! You inspired me! 😁
Fear of the Dark song is up there with revelations and Powerslave for me.
The Tree in the movie Poltergeist was scary
Yall should do a HOT TAKES Maiden episode. Fern and Keith have some HOT TAKES! :) I'd love to hear Fern talk about SSoaSS as someone trying to get into it!
Not a bad idea! I did listen to the Jericho podcast where they ranked their top 10 Maiden album openers. Maybe we could rank our favorite Maiden deep cuts.
That Phantom Menace metaphor for FotD is spot on
I've had the pleasure of seeing Wrathchild from when Brad was playing guitar, and singing and Shannon's hair was 2 colors and even caught the acoustic performance at Max's on Boardway, and of course the Cowboys & Idiots tour at Hammerjacks... amongst many other incredible shows. I have followed them ever since and purchased everything they've released through the Souls At Zero years, which I always thought was the perfect evolution from Wrathchild. I still annihilate my senses constantly with every cd from both catalogs, and spin them more than any of the so called BIG 4 thrash bands, who they should have been as huge as. Their albums STILL contain everything I love about music and open my mind and warp my senses. Timeless masterpieces.
MP was an extremely obscure band that was mostly only known in the north east. They opened for bands like Leeway and Biohazard. I saw them headline at the Roxy on Long Island supporting this Act of Faith album and there were less than 50 people there. Thought they could get big but never did. Loved this album though. It certainly has some charm to it. They did a reunion like 10 years ago but it's doubtful they ever do another. They also like to make a stink about Green Jelly getting big from the 3 Little Pigs song after MP had did something similar a few years prior. The bassist on the cover, who was new like you mentioned, left soon after this release and has never been heard from again, according to Chris Milnes.
The point of this podcast right here is just talking about the good music of helmet.haha
Just watched this now for the first time. This was fucking awesome. Great interview. Saw these dudes in California with Pantera back in 1991. Immediately purchased the 3-D cd. Killer interview done by real fans.
Hey, Eric. Great episode, once again. Scott got Ogre's guitar pick after one of their concerts back in the day.
That's awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I did try to get into Skinny Puppy but just couldn't do it.
