Great documentary series, I remember it from the first time around and still have my copy of the accompanying book plus all five episodes. They really should release them on dvd. I think it would also be cool if they did a follow-up documentary to see what became of those who took part in the series some 17 years down the line ....

@nipperoid 621 AOK was the first off the production line. It's on display at the Heritage Museum in Gaydon. Of course there were prototypes before that but not official production line vehicles.

They were great as a town car, not the type of thing for long motorway jaunts though. but having said that all mine were old '70s 1000cc models

@ludek92 i believe there still is. Despite the MINI brand is owned by BMW today, it is still made in Britain.

1990 Mini Cooper? They were still being produced in 1990? Now that's one good way to tell a truly classic car, when they're still being made 50 years later! Think Jeep CJ, Land Rover Defenders, VW Type 1 and Type 2, Mini, etc. They should still be making Escort Mk I and Mk II's, damn it!

Really chassis number 140 re-numbered to 98 when it was sold in 1962. Reshelled into a leter shell, where abouts now not known. Not a prototype at all just the 40th normal production mini built.

i feel sry for europe while they where getting excited over "sporty racing minis" we in the U.S. Had Trans ams, Z28s, chargers, and challengers, javelines, and gtos, grand prix , and lemans, Mustangs, and thunder birds. Sadly the tables have turned now euro cars are more exciting and american cars are inspired by boring asian cars.

if it was unprofitable then it would not have survived, especially for 40 years. the mini kept the company going in its darkest hour.

That Mini Beki Adams is driving in the start needs alloys, chrome handles and bumper and then it'd be better i think

@surfblue63 They have a new Cinquicento version in Europe already and coming to US later this year. But let's face it, it's not even close, the mini is a beautiful collectable with classic looks, design, and racing history , and the Fiat a really ugly little yellow rectangle. Long live the mini!
