Great Yorkshire Show with our Valais Blacknose Sheep!
Keep safe you all
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Keep on doing what you're doing i.e. blogging your life as "pretend farmers"🤣🤣 I am joking!! We should see the good the bad and life as it is for you and the animals in your care. You are learning as you go then passing on gained knowledge to others (us out here who know nowt). Well done all of you, keep on with the channel but if it becomes too much then concentrate on the sheep.
3 videos in less than a week?! Great! I’m sorry to hear about the sheep. I am glad you posted it because it’s good to pass on knowledge to other aspiring farmers. Do t be too hard on yourselves. We all make mistakes. Ya learn and move on and pass the knowledge onto others. Also in the beginning of the video when you were inside the audio sounded off. I could still hear and under you but not as clearly as usual. Just a heads up. Thank you for making videos regarding the real farming
Thanks for much for this nice comment. You’ve got to take the good with the bad and there’s plenty of it in livestock farming. We’ve decided to start showing more of the ‘not so good’ at the risk of receiving some negativity. Thanks for the support. Sadly less videos due this week but will keep churning them out as & when we can! Once a week minimum! Thanks for watching as always!! 😊
Enjoyed the video. Ye really are looking after your sheep well. Don't be too hard on yourselves over the kade lambs. Ye done yer best with them but there is just so much hassle with them. They not worth it in my opinion. Maybe going forward if you could keep some of your own lambs for replacements it would be alot less disease and problems with them. Best of luck.
@@JamesPrendergast-is6ob Great advice, would never do it again. Thanks for you kind words & thanks for watching.
so wonderful beautiful video my best friends i love it see so nice make me so happy ❤❤❤❤❤
Dark cold nights caring for the animals, the 9.00 to 5.00 ers would want unsocial hours pay, overtime pay and cold weather payments. Livestock farming takes a lot of commitment for not a lot of return cash wise. So be proud of what you are doing because your animal husbandry is 5*****
Thanks for the support as always Ken. Really appreciate your kind words. It’s not for the faint hearted. And I’m fairly sure we’re yet to actually make any money doing it! 😂
Hope all your sheep are OK. If you give some meal to them kade lambs along with hay it will help them two. Do ye have many valais ewes that dont go in lamb. We had one and she didn't breed this time was her first time with tup.
Sorry to hear it! We have have had this before with the Valais, shearlings struggling to catch on their first run with the tup. Our new tup hasn’t worked this time sadly so nothing is in lamb! Very saddening! We have to be very careful with hard feed as these Cade lambs have had pulpy kidney & a diet change can tip them! We’re going to try them on some cake this weekend, wish us luck!! And thanks for watching! 😁
@FailingatFarming sorry to hear the valais are not in lamb. Ye are having a bad run of luck. Keep going things will get better. Wishing you luck with cade lambs hope they turn a corner.
You have done all you can for the poorly lamb now it up to the lamb to pull through.
Thanks Ken, she’s in natures hands now🤞🏼
Hi can you make a lambing assistance video with?
Yes, we will do some lambing videos in March when the sheep maternity ward takes shape! 😁
🤞for the lamb. Question: Is there a day goes by when you do not need to inject a lamb?
Not usually 🤣 although summer is a good time for everything to be thriving!
(My advice) sheep carrying triplets need to start feeding 6 weeks out from due date - 1lb of meal for first 2 weeks , 1.5lbs for next 2 weeks and then 2lbs for 2weeks before due date . Very very rarely will you have big lambs of triplets. I can see your going to have sheep in not ideal body condition, not enough colostrum and small lambs . Meal needs to be 18% protein - no high feed buckets left with them just ordinary mineral lick bucket .
Congratulations on your good news. Ye doing good work in terrible conditions with all that snow lloking after your animals. It be no harm to get all sheep on farm tested regularly for fluke and worms going forward and then you wont have much problems then. You can dose accordingly if needed.
Thank you! And thanks for watching 😊 We take FEC samples every 6 weeks from overall flocks but individual sheep samples are very pricey and very time consuming waiting up to 4 hours for each sheep to pass a sample! This poor girl must have slipped through the radar in our last flock sample!
Hopefully they'll pull through. I think they all need 1kg of cake a day.
I’d say 👍🏼 especially these being bottle lambs! Worst we’ve ever had by far… brought everything with them ☹️
The lambs look like they need yo be dipped or treated for mites or scab etc. Hope lambs pulls through.
2 rounds of noromectin dosed in November 👍🏼 worst bottle lambs we’ve ever had, brought everything with them! thanks for watching!
Hope the lamb survived the night ❤❤❤❤
Loved the ratchet strap trick
Talk about using his initiative! 🙌🏼
Congratulations, hoping for a healthy happy baby with no complications
Thank you! And Thanks for watching 😊🤞🏼
Congratulations you two, very apt timing. having a spring baby among the spring lambs. Here is hoping for a bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy just like spring lambs and, of course, the wonderful character Tigger. Tom you are going to be on double time in the spring. 🤣
Congratulations on your pregnancy I hope all goes well. So excited for a new video. Been looking for it. Can’t wait till the next one!
Thank you so much!! Really glad you’re enjoying them, stick around for more! 😁👍🏼
@ is it going to be one video per week for now or possibly more?
1 per week for now but we have so much happening this coming spring that we’ll probably move to more frequent videos! We can’t wait to share everything with you 😁🙌🏼
@ great to hear!
Great news, Congratulatiions.
Thanks Ken! And thanks for watching! 😊👍🏼
Thank you for sharing this video with us so informative and an insight to how difficult farming is!
Our pleasure!
Very well explained Tom.
So glad you had a great experience at the show. Great job to all. Great video!
You all are hilarious together. The first couple minutes had me laughing. Plus your videography skills are getting so much better! Great job on the diversity, interviews, drone shots, voice overs and the captions when you can’t hear Erin.
Thanks so much!! So glad you’re still watching & enjoying the videos! We love having you around! 😁 Glad you’re noticing a difference 👍🏼
Great video hope you had a great Christmas!
You too Steve! Merry Christmas. Thanks for staying tuned to the channel! Means a lot.
I really love your videos, from the east of Ireland 🇮🇪 😅
@@gerryoconnor8751 So nice of you to let us know Gerry! Thanks so much, merry Christmas 😁
Hi Tom, Lydia, Erin, Mave and the four legged members of the team, hope you had at least a little time for your Christmas dinner. A farmers life is a 24/7, 365 day profession ut one must take some time out now and again.
Love your video, you look after your animals very well. No day off for livestock farmers ! I spotted a tractor at about 13 minutes, looks to have yellow wheels but it didn't look like a 40 series John Deere to me, what is it ?
Thanks Ken! It’s hard work but we do love it. Thanks as always for watching & commenting. I’m not sure on the tractor, it’s an old thing! I’ll ask the land owner for you!
@@FailingatFarming I am thinking of a tractor for Tom.
Very enjoyable video keep up the good work
Thanks for visiting! Glad you enjoyed the video 😁 Thanks for commenting!
There are no animals stupider than sheep and goats.
@@fightforaglobalfirstamendm5617 Haha, we dabbled in goats a few years ago, they were enough to put us off for life! 😂😂
Another good video! Thank you for the voice overs and sound was far better! Besides the Valais Blacknose what breeds do you have?
Thank you Steven! Glad sound is improving 👍🏼 We have the Valais & Suffolks for breeding & showing. A mixture of mule X’s a bunch of NEMSA North of England Mules, Lonks, Ryelands & some Heinz 57’s that do us well. Hence the several spots of land to cater for individual needs of breeds! Not easy stuff but we love it.
@ that’s a lot and amazing. Btw I’m curious how is Erin associated w/you? Friend? Relative?
@ Erin is our niece, and shares our very keen interest in the sheep farming!
Lovin it. When it comes to Sheep I am sure they go out their way to annoy us. Merry Chrismas to you all.
@@kenthetuner Spoken like a true sheep farmer there Ken 🤣 We couldn’t agree more. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Hope it’s a good one 🎄

Amazing! Thanks so much for letting us know! And thanks for watching 🥰
Don't you have microphone
We do now Jane! After a few comments suggesting 😅 Thanks for watching!
When you were scanning the last lot of sheep you should not be pulling the ewes around like that especially when they are pregnant
We agree entirely it’s certainly not ideal! (Although I think they did most of the pulling around! Poor Erin 😆) But as mentioned, 2 managed to leap out and get loose and these 2 girls were on thier way to following them when Erin quickly grabbed them, very thankfully 😅 With the field ground too wet to pull a truck into, we have to be extra vigilant with the sheep at the side of a road!
Very unfortunate with the Valais.
@@gerryoconnor8751 Thank you, it came as a real shock. And such a lovely tup too- very sad.
Please turn on captions, very hard to hear what y'all are saying in the wind.
@@Dennismelnychuk Totally agree! Dead microphones left us in a pickle! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Hard luck with the valais - next time buying a ram get him fertility tested- to important and expensive not to. On the up side your other sheep done very good on the scanning.
@@Krypton-jx4zg Lesson learned! The hard way!! And yes, lots of twins & triplets to look forward to 👍🏼 Thanks for watching!
Another good video!
Thanks again! Really pleased you enjoyed! More then we enjoyed the scanning results 😂
@ yeah im sorry to hear about the scanning results. Btw if I may say. Could you get better mics and in certain cases of wind for example do voice overs? I’ve seen many other RUclipsrs do it and it works well. I hope that doesn’t sound rude
@@steventhomas8964 I absolutely agree! Our Mic’s are a little ‘budget’ and the batteries die pretty quickly with no warning. I think some better microphones & voiceovers / subtitles where possible is a very good call! 👍🏼 thank you! 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing your video, you and Tom remind us of when we started out 34 years ago. Hard work and long hours. Today we have moved into a Blue Tongue restriction zone !
That is so nice to hear, I hope you eventually found success 🙏🏼 Please tell us the future is bright 😆 and sorry to hear you’re in a BT zone! Fingers crossed it stays clear of you guys! Best, Lydia 😊
Keep em coming! Great job!
