Cal Poly Strawberry Center
США
Добавлен 27 мар 2019
The goal of the Strawberry Center at Cal Poly is to increase the sustainability of the California strawberry industry through research and education that addresses industry needs. Formed in 2013 as a partnership between the California Strawberry Commission (CSC) and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the Center began with the hiring of a director, plant pathologist, research associate and admin coordinator. In the span of five years, the Center expanded its research reach to three main programs: plant pathology, entomology and automation.
In its first eight years, the Center secured over $2.5M in extramural funding and over $1.3M in gifts to conduct 149 projects. Cal Poly’s Learn-By-Doing philosophy fits seamlessly with the Center’s mission. As of July 2022, more than 110 students received industry-related work experience; 40 landed paid internships; 32 senior projects and 15 Master's theses were mentored by Center staff.

Investigating UV-C light as an arthropod pest management strategy in strawberries
Colin Koubek, the Center's Entomology Research Associate, is currently examining the effects of UV-C on two-spotted spider mite and lygus. Eggs of Two-spotted spider mites and lygus were placed in the field, three dosages of UV-C light were applied, and egg hatch percentage was counted to determine ovicidal effects of UV-C. Take a look at this video to find out how Colin and the entomology team conduct this research.

TRANSPLANTING DAY 10.31.2024 60,741 plants over 2.4 acres! While these numbers are quite modest for commercial growers, it's a milestone for our team at the Strawberry Center, marking the start of a new season of research. This year, we were fortunate to have cool, sunny weather on transplanting day-quite a change from past years with temperatures soaring above 95°F! A huge thank you to our ded...

50,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools of water to grow California's yearly strawberry crop and growing. Humans, people, citizains don't have access to tap water because the sales of crops are more important... than people. America the sad and greedy.
Hello friend, very good video👍👍👍👍👍 great content big like for you my new friend!
They might be grown the same as as other countries, but California has them beat with pesticides, 250 liters of pesticides per acre are sprayed on the fields. The worst one is an organic pesticide ROTENONE, kills everything it touches. So much for so called "organic foods "..
As far as I know, the conditions for agricultural products to be allowed to circulate in the United States are very strict. When the time of harvest came, the strawberries had no more pesticide content
Boa tarde! Pra mim é uma honra esta aqui te prestigiando, vamos sempre juntos somar e fortalecer nossos trabalhos, eu já estou por aqui
why is it a four-line landing and not a two-line one?
Money doesn't grow on tree but grows in the farm. No matter where you live, you have to work to get money and food. Money isn't easy to earn and food isn't easy to get. Good luck to every hard work.
Yes, farming is also a way to get rich if you have the determination and don't stop learning every day

*Some information about strawberries in California that I know. California produces one billion pounds of strawberries each year, accounting for 90% of the country's strawberry production. Each acre of land in California that grows strawberries yields an average of 21 tons, and in California 23,000 acres of strawberries are grown each year.*
the soil does not have a single weed, can I get the name of the herbicide?
Strawberry farms here often use plastic to cover the beds before planting, so weeds cannot grow.
4:55 and 6:50 the soil was fumigated prior to transplanting and this should take care of the weeds. Also, there are other cultural operations (bed shaping, bed mulching, the use of plastic, the use of drip irrigation) that will help maintain good weed control.
maybe it's a wonderful feature of a dry and hot climate that inhibits weeds .. I know that many farms use at least aryloxyphenoxy propionates and many others. in our farms, we do not use this to obtain bio, but we have many problems with weed herbs ...
Thank you for sharing very useful and meaningful videos, wish you good health and much success in your work.
they may not be as tasty as local but in the early spring they good enough
My hat is off to all the good hard-working people that bring food to my table. Thank You!!!~!~
Come to California once, you will be amazed at the fruit farms here
more like muchas gracias
It's fascinating to see the meticulous care and expertise required to grow these vines. Grateful to the farmers!
