Our organization often receives unconditional donations online in January, but donors want it to count towards the prior year. Am I ok to record those donations at 12/31 as pledge receivables (debit pledge receivable and credit revenue), then clear that out in Jan when funds are actually deposited?

The information is good, but this should not be title how to set up Quickbooks Online. It's all talking, and not showing how to actually set up Quickbooks Online. Perhaps retitle how to structure Quickbooks Online.

You may have answered this...but which donor management software options do you recommend? Do any interface with QB so the totals of the donations can be imported to QB?

Excellent brief instructions for how to set up locations, projects, and classes. But, did you do a more indepth video on how to actually do this? Also, what are "jobs" used for as related to QBO? Lastly, did you do a video on how to run donor receipts? I am using QB Premier for nonprofits now but it is going away. i will need to setup our organization on QB online now. Which QBO should I purchase from Techsoup to do the accounting for our small nonproift?

In a Statement of Financial Position for our organization, I don't want to see the "Equity" heading under Assets. This is not relevant for our organization unless am missing something completely? When is "Equity" relevant?

Don’t tie your Functional Expenses into your COA. You end up with duplicate accounts. Stop crowding the financials. The purpose of Functional Expenses: where do they fall? Not only the category, but are these functional expenses making money? Too many users under Functional Expenses. Natural general categories. A statement of activities needs to be streamlined. Keep it simple and clear. Maximize the QBO software use. Run your reports in different ways. Use classes to track Functional Expenses: administrative, programs with sub-classes for each individual program, i.e., gala, fundraising. Now you can run your statement of activity by "class."

I work for a non profit that manages 3 low income housing properties. How do I set up QBO so I can have financials stmt that are separated by properties.

Makes perfect sense. One problem: QuickBooks Online Essentials doesn't offer Classes, so the only option is to use Tags OR to overload the Account group. The difficulty with that, is tags aren't shown once a transaction Category has been added, making that an opaque grouping. One can run reports, yes, but there's no guarantee that someone didn't omit to tag an item. What would you suggest in that case? A flat structure where everything is an Account? I'm not impressed with QB.

Love your videos! Question - if I"m listing the volunteer as the "vendor" on the reimbursement transaction, how can I accurately track what we've paid actual vendor, since that transaction won' t be tied to the actual vendor's name in QBO? A journal entry?
