Lustig & Thornton - Screenwriters
США
Добавлен 12 сен 2022
A couple screenwriters who hope to give a little back and have some fun by writing our next spec LIVE.
Ben Lustig & Jake Thornton burst on the scene when their spec WINTER’S KNIGHT sparked a 5-studio bidding war before selling to Sony for 7 figures. A fantasy-adventure about a Viking warrior whose epic journey leads him to become the legendary Santa Claus, the script established the duo as imaginative masters of adaptation. Since then, they have penned multiple projects for Sony, Amazon, Universal, and Warner Brothers, including a sci-fi adventure inspired by the life of H.G. Wells, an animated series about werewolves in ancient Rome, and a pilot based on the juggernaut video game franchise, Final Fantasy. In 2020, Ben and Jake sold their spec script, THE PRINCESS, to 20th Century Studios and Hulu with Original Film and Derek Kolstad producing. Starring Joey King and directed by Le-Van Kiet, production was underway by summer 2021, and in July of 2022, the film made its debut on Hulu

As an aspiring screenwriter, I want to say Thank you for this interview
Love watching this, hope to watch the whole series :) Thanks for the inspiration!
So I guess they're done with these now? On to other things...
Personally, i'm 100% open to free work as described here and if/come deals.
Thanks guys, I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve dabbled with screenwriting for years but looking to focus properly on it now during a break from my “regular” profession. Great to watch.
Yes, now that you can't work, why are you not back here streaming? I miss watching you daily. Please come back.
Ben and Jake, please come back. I miss watching you.
Mark Twain said: those who don't read newspapers are uninformed, those who read the newspapers are misinformed.
Please make more episodes. Please please please!!! I want to know what happens with Lilith, Sam, and Hank.
Your enemy can see through your eyes. Now, that's a movie I want to see.

Hollywood is high school with money. I love it.
How can you forget Larry?! Lol
I think in real life morning and afternoon feel different. But on the screen it's very difficult to tell.
That's offensive. There is nothing good in your life that has not been given to you by God. What is cold and distant about that?!
Hollywood is run by fear. So true. And so sad 😢
I've taken Corey Mandell's writing course. He separates a bunch of skillsets, that I never would have realized were different skillsets. And then you can work to perfect each skill separately. I believe every writer can benefit immensely from his course.
I love this topic. Honing isolated skills.
I have a great idea for Lilith that I wish I can share
This is very informative. Now I have more clarity about the difference between managers, agents, and lawyers. Thank you
I love the intro
I think there's always a way to get out context in an organic way. Sometimes you need to work harder to figure it out. But I believe there's always a way to work around exposition.
You got your wish. You're now at 262 subscribers
Midnight Run is funny
I'm curious how your partnership came about. What made you decide to become writers? And what made you decide to work together? Can you make an episode about that?
Some people express the opinion that the WGA is not really out for the writers' benefits. They're out for themselves. They're not helping writers as much as controling writers. What's your opinion about that? I heard someone say it's crazy to be forced not to be able to work.
I wonder how long this strike will last
I also put too many 'just's in my dialogue
If there is a hell, they're all on ticktock. Lol
This channel is helping me so much! Thank you!
It's like stone soup, a little
Writing is an art and teaching is an art. Some writers can't teach. And some teachers can't write.
Watch movies, read screenplays, write pages and watch Ben & Jake Write a Movie 😊
Thanks!
And yes yes yes
Where's episode 34? I can't find it
Strange. Will check it out!
@@lustigthornton I found it in the live page. It just wasn't in the playlist. Thanks.
The term I learned is 'motivated context'. Any context should feel like the character was motivated to say it. You don't want the charcter revealing things without proper motivation.
I think Elon Musk is doing a fine job with Twitter
I love it when there's only one point of view
Did you ever think of producing your own movies?
Liked, subscribed, and hit the bell
This is a great channel
What's the definition of high concept?
If you keep streaming videos it will continue to grow.
260 subscribers now.
You DO realize that by giving your story out -- in detail -- that an AI app is currently finishing the script -- and will have it done and sold before you do. Sorry, but that's the current reality...
Thank you
A.I. is a tool. It can help in the writing process but that decision is to be made by a screenwriter. It can be an aid or it can hinder, depending on who's using it and how. To say otherwise, it's about corporations wanting even more control and about their insurmountable greed (nothing will ever be good enough, they will always want more). Human stories about the human condition only make sense if those stories are told by humans. And that won't ever change. Whatever comes out of this new "reality" that's forming...what is old and continues to happen is wanting for artists to be devalued and being paid less then what we deserve. I'm glad people are pushing back on the bullshit they are being fed.
So the thumbnail makes Ben look high and Jake just looks mentally disabled. 😂 But for real the industry will use the strike as the excuse to cancel projects and cut down on bloat. Debt is expensive from unprecedented rise in interest rates so now profitability trumps everything else.
Where's episode 22 and 23?
Are they not available?
@@lustigthornton I can't find them.
I found them. They should be in the playlists now but also can be found in the “live” section. Sorry about that… our playlists need some re-ordering.
@@lustigthornton Thank you!!
Currently trying to find a dedicated writing space. Some great points and advice here. Thanks guys!
Um actually -- Dark Phoenix not Phoenix. Phoenix is not evil. :P Love the show guys!
