Picked this old 1952 desoto firedome up last Wednesday! It has the 276 hemi, and fluid drive transmission!! Pretty neat old car!

Sorry it has taken so long to get this video out there, guys! This was about a month ago. Since this time, I have got her running real good, replaced both front tires and tubes, and even plowed up the garden spot at my brother's farm!!
The Allis Chalmers d17 is getting close to done!!

Finally have the necessary parts, and good weather to get some work done on the D17! Was able to get the head on, the governor, some lines, the belts, and the radiator and grill! All that is left is, valve train, starter, and new oil and filter!
Cold start, and replacing hub cover windows on my 1988 ford cl9000 cabover!

This leak developed a couple weeks ago. I thought I was going to have to remove the injection pump from the motor to fix, but following the advice from a guy on Facebook, I was able to swing it out from the block far enough to replace the troublesome O-rings!! I had a HL 173 many years ago and I had to put a rebuilt motor in it. Its long gone since and now I want another. Thomas skid steers were built to replace any factor parts in 90 minutes or less if you are using factory parts. I want to drop a gas motor in one I found that needs a motor as I have 110 HP 2.5ltr four banger gas model that needs a home, so to speak. This mans video helped me to learn if it might fit and it sure looks like it would. Thanks sir..
Dont know what it was about those old Fords but they had the coolest sounding airbrakes. Miss that sound with the new trucks

@@Truckster_Metfan91 i remember driving a ltl 9000 years ago. Had the Bendix qr valve on it. I see you can get them with a silencer to reduce noise. Must be what they use on everything today

How do you check the transmission fluid
It is a manual. So, it would checked by a plug on the side of the transmission.
I use to work on these when they first came out. Nice trucks, were a lot more refined than other cabovers from the same era. They did have their quirks though. There was a standard cab and an air ride cab.
Was there a way 2 swap the standard cab mounts with an air ride?
@@100016 I couldn’t give you a good answer, that was a long time ago. I do remember that the air ride cabs in the beginning had a notorious chafing problem with AC lines, coolant lines and electrical harnesses. These would chafe right behind the grille on each side of the radiator. They didn’t have this problem with the non air ride cab. However the non air ride cab had a serious problem that I dealt with once. The cab was all aluminum and would fracture at the areas where the cab mounts attached to. The cab frame rails along with the cab floor was so bad that I couldn’t jack the cab up. Ford had a kit to fix this which consisted of new cab frame rails, floor panels and structural reinforcements. I had to take the cab off of the frame, set it on it’s back and remove the whole bottom of the cab and rebuild it. A big repair. Sorry for the long answer. Just an old guy reminiscing.
@@htwrk2 wow, that's a long way 2 drop if that floor bottomed out on the road. Seen one with a standard cab but really want 2 convert it back 2 air ride. Always heard how much fun it was on tight turns, lol. Gotta figure out how 2 jack up the cab first but appreciate the heads up on possible future issues that I can jump on ahead of time
@@100016 I remember one owner telling me that somebody that was behind him caught up to him and told him that it looked like the cab was falling off. That plus all the movement from the dual exhaust stacks each going their own way. It made for a comical look from behind with no trailer attached.
We got 1 today it was 1h and 30 minute ride back. What's yours top speed? Ours is 48/49

Some of those headlight panels were quite floppy, but not all. At least you had a hydraulic issue after you raised the cab, right? I raised my cab a few times and then finally lowered it, then it decided to not go back up. 😳 Those lines can be a problem . Such a nice rig. Cabovers rule! 🥰
Rebuild that starter. Cut the wire going to it. Replace that starter/battery wire.
Thanks for the comment. Turns out the starter was not only rotted terribly bad inside, the armature turned out to be bad as well. So, found one for $100 on DB electrical.

I've cabovers no d.e.f. no e logs just good,old running down that highway.like my 2016 lone star she heavy but I'm like her .to much tech crap which I hate.
That trailer was there longer than what you said!! A couple years would not be long enough for that foliage to grow through & around!! That sat more like 10 plus year!!!
And your point is?!?! LOL! Trust me, a mimosa can grow that big, and through something in just a matter of 2-3 years, easily!! And, come to think of, it may be more like 5-6 years since we have needed to use it. But, definitely not more than 10.
