Looks to me like he didn't travel far enough back for the run up and was still in the turn when he entered the jump, hence he was nearly side ways on to the air. So he probably didn't reach full speed and then was slowed further by the air resistance. Also there is a definite crack when he hits the ramp on takeoff, whatever that was would also have absorbed alot of the momentum from the forward speed.

Wow that Colin Jost actually got off his ass and contributed something other than the stupid news segments which aren't very funny.
