Hot Cell at the Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences
A hot cell is a specially shielded cabinet used to safely work with radioactive materials. The hot cells in the sterile radiopharmaceutical production lab at the Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences are used for a number of different functions, including holding the automated chemical synthesis machines that separate and purify radioisotopes to make imaging agents, as well for filling vials and dispensing the radiopharmaceutical.

Filling Vial with FDG
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.8 лет назад
FDG (Fludeoxyglucose) is the radiopharmaceutical produced at the Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences for use in PET/CT scans. It is basically a sugar molecule that has had a single atom of the radioisotope fluorine-18 chemically attached to it. Once the FDG has been synthesized it can then be dispensed into vials for shipment to the PET/CT scanner at a hospital.
Installing a Fastlab cartridge
Просмотров 8828 лет назад
The Fastlab (R) is a machine that separates and purifies the radioisotopes that come from the cyclotron, and then does the chemistry to attach the radioisotope to a chemical compound to make an imaging agent or radiopharmaceutical. All the chemistry is done using chemical reagents inside of a pre-loaded cartridge.
