Sounds like Hitler. Germany was doing quite well until they turned on their ally the USSR to try and make the USSR a vassal state and take their resources and labor for their own.
And that's why in truly important meetings nobody carries any tech - smartphones? They are left outside! Otherwise confidentiality is hard to guarantee!
For those that has seen the pilot, this is a great throwback. Like with Sinclair and G'Kar (beep!), there is no first poison. Imagine what Reefas physicians will put him through trying to find something that isn't there?
"Only an idiot fights a war on two fronts!" The United States has decided to support Ukraine. The United States has decided to support Israel. "Only the heir, to the throne, to the Kingdom of idiots fights a war on Twelve fronts!" "Former President Donald Trump urged Russia to invade “delinquent” states in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which disturbed the head of the military alliance and allied countries."
But… there’s no point in there being a first part of the poison. Refs only dies on the second dose. This is literally no different than just saying “if you don’t, I’ll get someone to poison you”.
What a dumb concept. What is the point of a two-part poison? It would accomplish the exact same thing to say that he will have him poisoned in the future if he doesn't comply with his demands. The only difference is that, in this case, he is specifying exactly what poison he'll use and how he will get it to him.
I liked Lord Reefa simply because he had a Centauri accent. Most of the actors that played Centauris didn't bother trying to match the way that Londo spoke.
It's amazing how Refa so obliviously takes a drink offered to him from a person he knows has a less than friendly disposition towards his cause. He obviously wasn't as clever or ruthless as he thought or he'd have Londo eliminated as soon as he secured Mr. Morden's assistance. That happens when you fail to tie up loose ends.
Great dialogue, great actors. But why oh why did the directors chose to set it up in a café with a lot of people? They should have chose a more private venue.
The acting and dialogue in this scene is superb. But, if you think about it, the logic of Londo's threat doesn't make much sense. Put simply, to harm Refa, Londo still needs have the second half of the poison placed into his body. Unless and until he does this, Refa is in no danger. Accordingly, Refa can instantly just place Londo under the exact same identical threat: unless you do what I want, I will have one of my agents infect you with a fatal poison that will be fatal in just one dose (ie, the Centauri equivalent of Cyanide). Thus, Londo does not actually have any more power over Refa than Refa has over Londo. It would make more sense if the substance Londo placed in Refa, while not harmful now, will become harmful in, say, five years time. Then, Londo would have power. He could effectively say - do my bidding for five years, and I'll give you the antidote. Defy me, and after five years you will die horribly and in pain.
And there doesn't need to be any poison at all.... Imagine Reefa's doctors trying vainly to identify and eliminate the "first part". Imagine him trying vainly to get rid of something that isn't there in the first place. The continual worry about everything he eats or drinks. Of course, events will go as they will, and it's been long enough I don't remember the twists of this part of the story, but I do know two part poisons exist and Mollari would know about them. And devious enough to mention them without using them.
Refa wasn't written here to play the game with Londo. Otherwise, he might have replied to Londo poisoning him thusly: "Funny thing, Londo. That looks exactly like the poison that Mr. Morden's associates put in your own food shortly after they arrived on Homeworld. They also tell me that they have an antidote for it. Pretty interesting, yes? Perhaps you should rethink your position on this issue? (getting up from the table) Have a great day, Ambassador Mollari."
So I never seen Babylon 5 before and I was flipping through the Syfy channel. This particular episode happened to be on this particular scene, and just watching this scene made me realize I had see the rest of the show.
“Dormant, silent, waiting.” ... just like the Shadows. One wonders if Londo’s choice of poison was even subconsciously due to his familiarity with them.
As a real tradinionalist, he would know that it is not poison that is the traditional way. Its people falling out of windows. The accent, the posture, the behavior. all well to known in some places even in our times.
all these comments are so valid. Londo was one of my favourite characters. some time ago, I noticed a frozen dessert in the grocery freezers..."Frutare"....my son laughs as I always say it in Londo's voice....
I really miss this. I watched it from day one on live telly to its ending. Still made the future for all good Sci-Fi. It doesn't matter the budget. Employ brilliant actors who care about what they do......
The irony is that, in this instance, Londo didn't actually use a poison. Only the fear of poison. Because he knew that the most exhaustive medical scans would find nothing. But the less they found, the more sinister and powerful the fear of the poison would be.
My memories of this show are all I need, going back to watch them again won't make them any better for me. At the end of the series I had feeling of "That was good" and I don't believe I can recapture it. The avalanche has started, it's too late for the pebbles to vote. Damn, so many memorable wisdom nuggets.

Peter Jurassic was great. Lo do was so layered, so complex, it was truly riveting to watch him.
"We need room to expand". Centauri Lebensraum.
And that's why in truly important meetings nobody carries any tech - smartphones? They are left outside! Otherwise confidentiality is hard to guarantee!
Isn't it Refa?
Talk about playing a Lethal game but it Works!
"To your health Lord Refa." Londo, master of irony.

You moon-faced assassin of joy!
One of the top 10 moments in Babylon 5.

Peter made up the accent literally so no one could say it was a BAD accent. :)
It is worth nothing that Reefa inadvertently quotes Hitler
Since watching this, I no longer accept drinks from people as soon as I've arrived at a meeting 😂
What if Reefa had turned down the drink? ✌️
"...And because sooner or later you would do it to me....." ---You simply MUST know your enemy.
It's amazing how Refa so obliviously takes a drink offered to him from a person he knows has a less than friendly disposition towards his cause. The actor who played Lord Reefa was the father of a child in my son's school. Very nice man.

I truly love this show!!!!❤ Will there ever be quality again???????
WGA!!!
The writing and the acting was way above there budget.
The two meet, have a little party …. Another great line.
Love Lando
Whats the difference between a poison with two halves or a complete one...the threat lol

NEVER underestimate Londo Mollari

This was a good show back in the day
The first thing Reefa does once he returns to Centauri Prime is to see a doctor.
“Dormant, silent, waiting.” ... just like the Shadows. One wonders if Londo’s choice of poison was even subconsciously due to his familiarity with them.
I am glad i take the chance to buy this complete series with all episodes DVD pack 10 years ago ;) Time to watch this nice sci-fi-show again ;) lg

I couldn’t stand Refa. Him being on screen just was like fingernails on a chalk board.
Quote mr Garabadi…beep beep

If Londo was to accept. He would be a great King in G.O..T. Why? Simply, because he has what it takes.
This aged like fine wine 🍷 This show is fucking incredible.
Peter Jurasik was one hell of an actor!
Londo is a tragic hero well versed in dealing with the snakes in the grass.
I really miss this. I watched it from day one on live telly to its ending. Still made the future for all good Sci-Fi. It doesn't matter the budget. Employ brilliant actors who care about what they do......
Chaumurky for the drink. Londo would go far in the Dune Imperium.
The irony is that, in this instance, Londo didn't actually use a poison. Only the fear of poison. Because he knew that the most exhaustive medical scans would find nothing. But the less they found, the more sinister and powerful the fear of the poison would be.
Actually he probably did use a poison. A poison like this actually exists. It has been used to kill someone before
"Beep beep!"
Notice: he has two bottles on the table right in front of him from the very outset. Right in plain sight.
God, I miss TV worth watching.
My memories of this show are all I need, going back to watch them again won't make them any better for me. I love how the characters in B5 developed over time. Something you don't see often in new series. :)
