Arma 3 UAV guide - AhoyWorld Servers
A lengthy guide on the usage of UAVs including the GBUs post Tanks DLC changes. (GBUs were converted to LOAL - Lock On After Launch)
The UGV Stomper and the exceptionally buggy Falcon UAV are not covered in this guide.
I thought long and hard with this video, because it is such a long one and chaotically switches between drones, as to whether to edit together the sections of each individual UAV setup/use. Ultimately though I felt it better to keep things as unedited as possible to give a sense of just how busy the UAV role is and how you have to multitask all the assets to maximise the role.

0:26 UAV basic tools

I've watched 7, yes seven 'tutorial' videos of UAV on Arma 3 and I have 1800 hours in Arma - my Pilot buddies on JSOC keep telling me to sort out UAV skills and this video is the only one that covered everything that gives me confidence to now take that role. Thank you sir.
Would you be so kind to help an old geezer??? I have +2000 hours in the game, but I still have a problem with the Yabhon-R3 After the land option I do not have control of WP markers. It just flies off in invinity... No control on what sort of WP I try. Thank you in regard
Still playing Arma?
Not at the moment. Life is busy, and time is limited right now. Looking forwards to a future release of Arma4 but I doubt that will be any time soon.
The best mortar review! Thanks!
my biggest problems with mortars is i just simply cannot rearm them no matter how hard i try, in vanilla or ace, and ive tried messing with settings and rearming in so many ways i just cant!
Thank you so much man, you deserve more than 67 subs
No worries, honestly I'd be happy with 0 subs, I only make content when I see a need for it. (kinda waiting for Arma 4 now) But thank you for the kind compliment

The Google Play has an application with the name of УКРОП, it has all the artillery calculations for the USSR weapons. It is a ballistic calculator with very many useful features play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=syn.YKROP apps.apple.com/us/app/mygun/id1613391674
Weirdly enough, I'm a mortarman in real life and just wanted to know how to use one in ACE. This is a great video, we use plotting boards for degraded calculations in real life in the US, but it looks like a cool way to simplify it in-game. I noticed the 100 mil bill (deflection off by 100 mils) immediately though, made me laugh Thanks!

The outer numbers are mils. There are 6400 mills in 360 degrees. The red line is on approximately 4455 mils.
Just wanted to say thank you. Originally I couldn't find how to work the mortars anywhere on the net, so had to work it out for myself, and did a vid to share that knowledge. As such it means I'm greatly lacking on the actual terminology, so it's always appreciated to have someone fill in these gaps for me. Every day learning new things, is a good day. Thank you!
@@TheNibblet99 I gotta say it is a very well put together video. Im in the military and am familiar with the terminology. But I’m new to arma and wouldn’t have figured it out very easily and this helped tremendously. Unfortunately it seems the mortars are kinda worthless in the campaign as the ai won’t pick up one of the bags for me unless I’ve missed something.
You said something about adding 11 for every 100 meters.. how did you get 4? Sorry im bad at math. Also i notice you were firing uphill. Is it right to assume that if you are subtracting if firing uphill, you gonna do the opposite and adding if firing downhill?
How is it that your mortar got magazine while me, i have to load 1 every shot i have to exit mortar and load for 3 seconds
That depends on your ACE settings I believe. I'm using the regular Arma mortar to not make the video too confusing for the people who aren't using ACE
@@TheNibblet99 im playing with my unit's server and one time i asked the curator for a mortar he gave me the one already loaded with a magazine but if he is not present, the one i get from arsenal i have to manually load every shot
Nevermind.. i was using laser guided rounds
I don't even play Arma I just thought this would be interesting and it was.
You got any C-RAM guide? I can't run them
myyman has to be a mathematic professional to use the ACE morteur
hello what key bind did you bind for the gun elevation on your mouse wheel i cant find it in the settings
You are the only video I’ve found that actually explained very simply, HOW to assemble the mortar!!! THANK YOU!!! 👏🏿
Every vanilla asset works with their base/bipod/tripod and their weapon, if it's a mod, it may differ, it's really easy
This video is priceless.
Great guide! At 10:00 you took the bearing as "45 and a bit" instead of "44 and a bit" so the round went way off. The only thing I'm missing from the guide is the group size/accuracy of the mortar.
Mortar group size and accuracy differs at range, at the distance he was at you can expect probably around 10m between each shot (Don't quote me on that, just an estimate), if you want extreme accuracy mortars usually aren't the right tool though, they're more for hitting something like a compound and creating chaos/taking out infantry
Wow did you now this is the real thing I was learn in artillery school in my country .nice jab man
Is there a way to have the gunner camera on one screen and have the order map on another?
Not to my knowledge, but I've not played Arma for about a year, so I'm not familiar with the most recent changes
Has it changed by the time I ask this? I was wondering if you'd come up with solutions to the current bugs?
Hi, sorry I've taken a break from Arma for the last few months, so can't really answer on this. I wish you the best of luck finding workarounds for the bugs you're getting though
No worries. I’m getting there.
That was really helpful,thanks
you're welcome
Great video, and the helmet and ammo crate tips are something I had no idea about. -- JJ
Another excellent video, you make it look so easy, as usual, you obviously have lots of stick time on the server.
Thanks for the compliment, it's nice to know these are of use :) I expect this will probably be my last Arma guide for now, since everything else on the server is generally quite obvious in how they work. But we'll see what happens when Invade and Annex 4 pops up, and brings new toys to play with.
You make that look stupidly simple but its just not. Are you using keyboard and mouse or a controller?
It's a flight stick + throttle, and a lot of practice :) ***edit after this point*** Forgive me, I should have been more expansive on this. I could live with using a mouse for controlling pitch/roll, but there really is no substitute for a physical throttle (even a slider on a cheap joystick would work) The key to the Fish is throttle control, being able to feel where it's at with your hand, allows you to concentrate on where you're going. I'm not sure I would be any where near as good having to look at the throttle indicator on screen with keyboard / mouse. That said, I'm pretty sure you could still learn to do it well, it's just going to be a steeper learning curve.
I used to have a very good joystick years ago when I was addicted to F16 Flying Falcon, I have searched all my storage and cannot find it. I might try and adapt my Taranis RC controller.
That's an interesting idea, if you do manage to adapt the Taranis, I'd love to know how you did it, sounds like a fun project.
Actually very straight forward, you just set up Arma as a new model with up to 16 channels allocating them as you see fit. As I have flown rc models for 50 years including, FPV, Fixed Wing and helicopters it’s just like a flight simulator for me. You could use any tx but the Taranis is easier to program.
Damn decent job Nibblet. Good to see some first-person flying :)
Nice vid, very clear to understand. Following that I will still not be using a Blackfish..Ever!
Practice makes perfect. I dreaded it for years, despite being able to fly modded aircraft using the same system. I now fly it first-person, no issues, can land that sucker pretty much anywhere. Just understand that it's not an aerobatic aircraft, and you can't fly it like a Hummingbird :)
Haha I can't fly a hummingbird that well either.
