Turning some Walnut Plates

In this video I turn 3 walnut plates. The first two are rather small. I then get crazy and turn the biggest plate that I have ever turned. The lathe and I struggled but we got it done. If you want to see the big plate stick around for the second half of the video. As always, Have a great week!

Hi I have been enjoying watching, you wont need a bigger lathe for more power, your power loss is through the reeves drive, a 1/2 horsepower EVS lathe will have more torque than what you have and a 1hp EVS you wont know yourself

I just ordder some epoxy to try stuff like this. I want to make some combination of wood , metal and epoxy for the old school tops.

One would hope that wooden lathe manufacturers could see the vast difference in extras other lathes get. But please manufacturers, give ppl quick lock levers so not everyone busts their knuckles loosening and tightening the tail stock. Thanks for sharing your video.

I understand what you are saying. I always loved wood bowls but never bought any because the maintenance is just too much. I came up with using epoxy to solve that problem. Plus it makes me different from everyone else. Yes, I still do traditional finishes at times.

Nice job. As a complete novice, I think I'd apply some drops of hot-glue on the wood to fix it to the bench - allow me to use both hands to guide the router
Glue or double sided tape works great. Me, I just love to live dangerously. LOL
