Converting a Kyosho NEO 2.0 To Electric

A Night In The Workshop A Day At The Races

Sunday April 3rd 2021 saw me head over to the Kent Model Rallycross track which has been changed over the winter for a test day. A disasterous first few laps saw me destroy the clutch in an expensive Novarossi engine, then a few laps later the engine itself cried enough. I shoehorn in a Picco engine only for the glowplug to burn out and I dont have a spare with me. I switch to my spare car and ...

Hi. Just purchased my Neo 3. Do you use the x4 set screws to adjust the ride height
Hi yes I do. I set the ride height based on the track conditions. The rougher the track the greater ride height.
@@birchwoodracing thank you for replying. Raced many years with electric. Then left the sport. So decided to try nitro. Do you have any other tips for the Neo 3 nitro please. I. E The shocks seem very soft with current kit oil Some say don’t add fuel filters some say do? Do you thread lock the x4 set screws for ride height ? Thank you once again Geoff
@@geoffgathercole5828 your welcome! I didn’t threadlock the ride height screws. Best upgrade is to put proper silicon grease in all three diffs with a slightly thinner weight in the rear. And put proper shock oil in the dampers
@@birchwoodracing was thinking of 55wt
Sorry. Ment 55wt all round or 700?
Hi Just got my first Kamtec F2 and having seen the different angles of the roof spoiler and hearing it does make a difference is there any rules of the road for F2 set up?
The setup tip I swear by is to use a harder compound right front tyre than on the left. It made no end of improvement to the handling
Great video. I'm about to order my MP 10 TKI3! Along with a Alpha Falcon From Ryan Lutz!
Nice video but the intro really is too loud (at least for heapdhone users)
Nice mate 🔥👍🏻
We are making a non-profit documentary about the lost Steyning Railway line @tracingtherails. Please may I use your clip in our documentary and we will make sure you are properly credited at the end?
Hello there, I started end of last year and loved it. I'm racing 1300s and brushed 21t hot rods. I need a tyre truer now as im regularly borrowing other people's. I've already built up a load of spares and racing kit. You're right RC racing is on the up !
Lots of great info and Thumbs up
Great video Matt thanks for giving Scaynes hill a shout out, will be good to see you again or at H.O.T.S.👍
Great video Matt, thank you. What wheels did you use on the MP10.
I used the stock wheels that came with the kit, they are pretty smart and embossed with the Kyosho logo. For tyres as I mainly race that car on Astroturf I fitted these tyres www.modelsport.co.uk/product/schumacher-1-8th-mini-pin-yellow-26455 The yellow Minipins are as rare as hens teeth here in the UK right now and are not expected back on the shelves until April 2023!
Thank you Matt
Don't use the locking tool use polly grips
Wow your girlfriend must be really supportive 😀🙏
@Planetaryjones she is HOT!
Amazing pov chase
Would the body from this mount on the neo with minor modifications. I keep looking at a mp9 or mp10 body to put on mine. The side guards are slimmer on the mp9 and slimmer body can’t tell on the mp10
What would you recommend for shock towers these are pretty weak.
I have the kit towers fitted, not managed to break one yet.
Look for mp7.5 towers. I think king headz had some decent t ones. Anything mp7.5 is a direct fit seeing as how the neo actually is the 7.5.
@@bustedaw11 I just got a front integy for a mp777 it fit perfect
@@ls1_cammeroh i wasn't sure if the mp777 would work. I know there were some changes but I can't remember what anymore. How you like it?
@@bustedaw11 I took the chance and tried it. The picture on eBay and the stock one looked like all the holes were in the right spot. Sure enough fits perfect. Landed the car right on the shock tower didn’t bend like the stock one so I’m super happy with it going to order the rear now.
Been looking for this for years..great memories..thank you.
Your welcome. I was cheering you and Sid on big time that day. Interestng fact was that out of the 6 outfits in the final 3 of them were Godden V Twins and 3 were the FZR Yamaha engine.

Absolutely great video
Great video. I am just about to buy a new body for my Neo 3.0 nitro. Cant you buy a specific body for the nitro?
Hi, I dont think you can. I checked with my local Kyosho dealer in the UK at the time and from memory I think I had to go wiith the electric car shell and cut it down to fit the engine
@@birchwoodracing Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the bodies for the MP9 nitro will fit the Neo?
@@novideosnovideos544 to be honest I don't know. I understand that the Neo 3 is based around the MP7
@@birchwoodracing Many thanks for the reply. Any more Kyosho buggy videos coming soon from your channel?
@@novideosnovideos544 Funny you should ask that but I am literally in the process of filming and end of season video, which may well be farewell to the Kyosho hello to something newer........
Nice work, keep it up, looks great!
Gee those bigger jumps have hardly any down ramps to land on. Be nice if they extended those a little. Enjoying the videos.
Thanks, I stopped racing at that circuit after making this video due to those ramps
@@birchwoodracing Hi Matt, I don't blame you say all. The jack just seemed all wrong.. Those jumps would've been a big risk to the cars as the margin of error so small... Cheers..
Thanks, it wasnt the height so much that put me off but the "angle of take off" people were trashing their cars. Racing is expensive enough at the best of times without addicing to the cost unnessacarily
@@birchwoodracing totally agree mate.. Nice to know you have other options..
Nice build Matt! I been watching for a bit I have a Neo 3.0 which is my back yard basher / back yard track building lol.
Ciao Matt. Posso chiederti quale olio usi per i differenziali?
Ciao, io uso 7000 all'anteriore, 5000 al centro e 3000 o 5000 al posteriore che dipende dalle condizioni della pista
Get some Velcro pads to stick your transponder down with, then you can easily transfer it between vehicles
Hi there other than kamtec and mardave do you know who else sells the RC kits
Yes, there are at least two more chassis available, TWR racing, and Rat Out Racing. Both have Facebook pages with contact details.
@@birchwoodracing Brilliant thank you so much 👍👍👍👍👍
@@dustineputtaert5792 both TWR and Rat Out Racing produce very good cars. Since I made this video two years ago I have built three oval cars from scratch using my own CNC equipment. I am so busy with my day job and the 1/8 nitro that I haven't had time to develop them properly.
Thanks mate I just got a kyosho mp9 good for tips I’ve been watching all your videos really good 👍 grate information thanks 🙏 Tony blue mountains Australia 🇦🇺
At 23:58 'we've got one little lost lad' is announced. And that little lost lad was me! My mum and dad always tell me about this! Tony does say I am quite happy at the moment and that must be because the sidecars were on! I believe someone had found me wandering round the crowds crying and trying to find my mum and dad but because the crowd was so big I couldn't find them. So I was taken up to the commentary box where I was fetched. Apparently, I managed to tell Tony that I was called Gareth, my Dad was called Tony and my Uncle John raced number 184! Many years later, I sat on the Track Racing Committee with Tony for a short period of time. I reminded him of this moment as well and he couldn't remember it! It did make him feel old though!
I remember that meeting as if was last Sunday. I had only ever been to club grasstracks at that point (there were several a year in just West Sussex where I live and I coudl get to them by pushbike). Hearing the presentation by Tony Noel was incredible. I got chatting to him at a grasstrack a couple of years later as I recognised his voice when he spoke, I relly engangeing guy to talk wiith.
I'd like to race my Neo 3.0 non-competitively but there are no tracks or organizations near me. I have upgraded the diffs to a 4 spider, eliminated the pull start, swapped the tires to JConcepts Kosmos with Avid wheels, Protek 4 shoe clutch, metal spur and the air cleaner for the MP9.
Cheap tip- mp9 sway bar sets used all over eBay swap right on. I've got both the neo and tki4 and have done just that. Paid $3 shipped for my set on my neo.
@@bustedaw11 I know this post is old but I pulled the Neo off the shelf and started running it again. Since then I did add front/rear sway bars, a much better steering servo and the big ticket item the HD coated big bore shocks front/rear with light blue springs. I'll test them this weekend at the track but I can already tell they are a huge upgrade.
Incredible how much sound sparse instruments can produce.
Great bike ride video Matt! You caught it right when they started building on South BBH. I grew up in BBH and remember when it was a country walk down the lane.
Thanks, I grew up in BBH too living on the billingshurst road until we moved to charrington way when I was a teenager. I still get back there now and again to visit my parents but you wouldn’t recognise the village these days
@@birchwoodracing I made a similar video sometime ago of my bike ride from Warnham to Horsham to BBH to Warnham in 2018. These days I cycle four miles each morning around 7am for the fresh air and exercise.
I don’t know in UK but in French competitions you need to have translucent glasses on your bodywork the dark tanned are not accepted
I believe this was held at Stapleford in 1987 just after Xmas possibly Boxing Day or the day after. Some of the profits raised were given to Riding for the Disabled at Wilton House.

On Astroturf I run Schumacher minie pins in yellow with the inner and outer rows of pins cut off to reduce grip roll, on grass I run schumacher minispikes again with the inner and outer rows of spikes removed. On Dirt I run AKA Impacts.
Hi, new to RC, did a rebuild of a RC10GT, now I want to do a build from the ground up, and have choose this car as my first true kit build. Was wounding if you had a link for the bearing press that you used for the build.
Hi, I made my own bearing press using a vice and some pieces of wood to avoid crushing the bearings.
1st thing to do is change that pathetic plastic spur gear what a joke that is kyosho smart idea putting a plastic spur in a 1/8 buggy
Did you ever have the diff issue where it starts to wear out? I saw online that the stock ring gear is aluminum? Now kyosho got steel ones available now.
Hi, thanks for your message. I have ragged my car a lot during racing this year and I havent had diff wear. I put this down to when I rebuild the diffs I put a small amount of normal grease on the bevels before filling them with Silicon Diff Fluid.
