If it’s your mining claim that you have filed on, you have the mineral rights, and I assume the rusted treasures as well?

Why no mention of Ride the Pink Horse (1947) which was also turned in a great noir classic, and interestingly set in Santa Fe?

Hello, Bob, and thank you for this interesting and informative profile of Dorothy B. Hughes, whose The Expendable Man I discovered in the 60s, when I was in my 20s. I read several of her other books and reread them during the years. I always loved Hughes' slightly skewed version of the world and the strength and intelligence of her female characters. My favorite would have to be The Expendable Man, and then there's The So Blue Marble and Ride the Pink Pony. She wrote with uncommon brilliance and style. It would please her that her work is being made available to new generations

I bought Steve's 2001 CD "Words, Wire & Wood" at his live performance at Edgefield's Little Red Shed outdoor stage (My wife and I were fans of his early '80s band Kashmir). The 2nd track on the CD, "Mary-Go-Round," is as fine as original music ever gets. It honestly sounds like it could have been written and produced by the late-great Burt Bacharach.

excellent introduction to a wonderful author! I love that Pym is being picked up again, and totally agree that the current state of the world makes her books even more enjoyable than perhaps they were even in her own day.

Please let me know if what I am seeing at night. I think there are planets moving at a very fast speed. Just before dawn 6:00am and 6:30 am. I live in Puerto Rico on the west side of the Island. I'm an amiture star star gazer. I am astonished and in love with my new Hobie. I'm semi retired and have plenty of time to gaze. However I need your help to tell me if I'm swing planets or stars. Thank you

People don't Deny Science, they don't like the idea how the "Word" Science is used without any reference of Proof or Evidence. Authorities these days use the word "Science" and don't demonstrate any science. Corruption is rife these days and If we the people are not skeptical and ask questions about what we are told by authority, then we could be taken down a dark path for a long long time. So please address this very problem instead of making up silly stories about so-called fantasy science deniers. Many thanks.

Hans Fallada is not well enough known in the United States. The way he wrote about common people reminds me of John Steinbeck. Both authors were skilled and astute observers of human society, and both of them revealed the value in the everyday, normal life.

Baldwin got smoked in my opinion. First he’s bad at economics, The southern states promoting slavery where much poorer than the northern states with capitalism, the us has always been richer than Brazil with its wide spread slavery. Slavery held the economy of America back. Second the poverty levels of black people was much smaller when he made his speech that it is now, do to the welfare state deconstructing the need for success and the chance to build self esteem though achievement. Third he grew up infinitely more privileged and affluent than any of the field hands he claims to have worked along side. The last cotton he picked was a shirt off a store rack.

I have spent 30 years entrenched in the Vietnamese community from San Diego to Camas, WA. I have written an award winning story about the great refugee movement from 75-96. It's a subject and a part of history that needs to be told and I will spend the rest of my life trying to get this story on the big screen. I have nothing but love for what the Vietnamese went through during the great diaspora. My friends, family, and colleagues have contributed to so much since their trek across the vast expanse.

I used to go to the Forest Grove Library in the 1980s, and often. I first learned of many authors and writers there, some of whom are forgotten today. Octavia E. Butler, Samuel Delaney, Roger Zelazny, Jane Yolen, Ardath Mayhar, Jean Lorrah, Christopher Priest, Laurence Durrell, J. G. Ballard, Philip K. Dick, just some of the great ones whose books are pleasures to read.
