    I bought the same one but with a different design at an antiques fair yesterday. I can't wait to brew coffee in it.

    Mine is missing the thin black cap on the top , do i really need it? Also how do you put in a filter if the center has a tube coming up?

    • @logocentrism
      @logocentrism 15 дней назад

      I never use the cap. While they used to sell (or maybe still do somewhere) filter disks with a hole in the bottom, I just give the filter a little rip in the bottom to let the tube through. While I haven't done this, and probably wouldn't, I imagine you could cut the tube off as I don't think it really does too much. The air can get out other ways (I would think anyway).

    I really appreciate the informative video, but I gotta say dude. These pots were made to sit on a warm burner. So yes, I'm sure it did cool down considerably sitting on a table top. You must be under 50 years old. I was raised in a house with a drip pot, and have used one my whole life. The coffee is so much better in a drip pot than these new electric pots. Thanks for the info tho!

    Ive found that putting a good handful of ice into the pot, makes it perk a bit longer, giving you a much stronger cup of Joe. I have the 8 cup model. Best cup of coffee for sure...

  • @erth2man
    @erth2man 2 месяца назад

    I just picked up an 8 cup version of this percolator at a thrift store for $3.00. One thing I noticed that's a little different, the diffuser that distributes water on top of the basket actually slides into it to sit directly on top of the coffee grounds. I have a number of these stove tops but have never seen this before. I can't see if there is any advantage one way or the other.

    I think a reason your percolator is so pristine is that on the older electric stoves you had to use a metal, triangular coil beneath the pot. Couldn't make coffee without it

    Some coffee makers brag about how many cups of coffee they can make, but they base those cups on a 6 oz cup of coffee, which is actually less, as if you have a 6 oz sized cup of coffee, you have to leave room for cream or milk. They did not super size portions back in the day.

  • @kfl611
    @kfl611 3 месяца назад

    You know, if say you woke up one day really hung over, the bottom portion of that coffee pot, would make the perfect sized portion for your hang over cup of coffee.

    Got myself a Norelco 12 with the carafe and dial-a-brew for $2 at an estate sale. Works well; it hits 200 degrees easy with the brew water. I appreciate its simplicity. Its looks are not at all out of place in a modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances. I’ve wanted a Technivorm Moccamaster, but now I don’t think it may be that much better to be worth the price. I may also just sell my Bunn-O-Matic as this Norelco is just easier. EDIT: The Norelco is quite a powerful machine as it's rated for 1500 watts. Meanwhile, my Bunn is rated for 900 watts.

    That looks like a normal percolator? When I looked up the Farberware "Robot" on eBay it had a glass globe on top and is a vacuum drip coffee maker.

    I clean mine by running it for a cycle with a couple of cups of vinegar. Then, run a cycle with water. Then, run a couple of cycles with water and 2 cups of baking soda. Run a cycle or two with a full load of water to rinse off any baking soda and coffee sediment. Your coffee will taste better immediately with no bitterness or burnt coffee flavor. It's a miracle! By the way, Melita makes round Disc filters that fit perfectly inside the Farberware percolators. Happy brewing.

    Hi! I love your channel. I decided to purchase a good old fashioned percolator coffee maker after my piece of garbage coffee maker died. Horrible how such a great piece of engineering went down the tubes all in the name of saving pennies and making huge profits. Most things designed these days last a few years. Sad that society just accepts that and we just buy the same crap.

    I enjoyed seeing your demo of this pot in action. Wear-Ever was Alcoa's brand for an extensive line of aluminum cookware. My father sold Wear-Ever cookware both before World War II and after into the 50s; but had to switch jobs to making planes when aluminum "went to war" and civilian uses of aluminum were stopped. I have a 9 cup version of this pot, including some packets of 100 Wear-Ever filters for it, so filters were used, for the large pot at least.

    Hey mr. Morehouse I just got a very similar looking pot from black and decker that still works called the coffeematic, but the insides look very nasty. Is there a way to clean the machine so it can be used for actual coffee making?? My best thinking is to scrub what i can reach and send some kinda cleaner thru it and many water runs before making actual coffee out of it. Thanks for the upload.

    I have several of these Farberware percolators in different sizes. When you pick these up at flee markets often they have been turned in because they no longer brew hot enough and end the brew cycle too soon. This is because the thermostat is not good any more. That can be easily purchased from Amazon and replaced to have it working like new again.

    I have this same percolator. I use it every day. With my gas stove top on high,it takes 7-8 minutes for the perc to start. Once it starts, I turn it down to low and let it perc for 8 minutes. I usually grind my beans very coarse and don’t use a paper filter. If all I have is ground coffee I use a Mellita wrap filter. This “six” cup pot makes two large mugs of coffee. Nice and HOT!

      How does it fare on the gas flame? Does it discolor the bottom of the pot?

    • @redstone5149
      @redstone5149 10 месяцев назад

      @@wonder-womyn …the flame doesn’t discolor the pot at all. If there is burned on residue on the grate, that can get transferred to the bottom of the pot and it takes some scrubbing to get off.

    Seems to work great as a humidifier. Also, if you put it on a timer to brew in the morning, the noise it makes as it finishes the brew would easily wake you up, working as an alarm. Three in one with the Norelco.

  • @redstone5149
    @redstone5149 Год назад

    Turn the heat down to a medium setting once the perking starts. Let it perk for 8 minutes. Otherwise, you’ll be drinking coffee with a bitter and burned taste.
