Welcome to my painting channel!
I'm Kate from Hong Kong. I have been painting freehand Chinese watercolor for more than 20 years and had held exhibitions. I started this channel to share my skills and knowledge in Chinese painting which seems to be the best kept secret unknown to the outside world. With western education and interests in all kinds of arts and crafts, I have started to develop my own style and use more more materials to create art work.
Enjoy watching and happy painting!

How to use golden color in Chinese Painting
I have used a golden ink for this Chinese painting. This golden ink is a Japanese brand and is available on Amazon Japan. I don't have any affiliate link. Please leave a message if you would like to know where you can find the product.
The materials in this videos include:
Mounted rice-paper card (half-ripe)
Chinese Ink
Golden ink
Yellow color 藤黃
Orange color 珠膘
Indigo 花青
China red 大紅
I have mixed the golden color with yellow and orange to get the shinny yellow gold color for the flowers. I think this color is very stable and works well with Chinese watercolor.
Happy Painting!

The use of orange color in Chinese painting

The traditional orange Chinese watercolor is derived from Cinnabar. The bright mineral color is stable and long lasting, making it a great color to ue for Chinese painting. However, I seldom use single color in my brush strokes. I always mix color. Orange color is probably the most used color in my core color. It can be mixed with ink to get brown color, with yellow and red to get different sha...

Thank you so much for sharing these valuable lessons in Chinese painting.😊 You mentioned that your rendering of the Peony in this video is a more modern, western style. I'm really interested in traditional Chinese methods/style. Would you do a video using traditional Chinese methods? I want to learn so I can use it in my art too. 😊🙏
I’m excited to try your style painting a buffalo. Do you offer a class? Freehand & few brush strokes sounds like what I want to practice🌸
@@jenniferwiseley-jungemann1732 Thanks for the interest. I have to figure out how to set up a zoom class =) If you have the brushes, ink ad material, you may paint along. Less is more. These few strokes are not that easy but it’s a good start if you like the painting style.
Thanks for the encouragement. 🌻 Of all the artists I have looked into following, my heart jumps seeing this “minimalist” look so I want to learn your difficult sumi brush strokes & have started to try imitating your style. I did get some brushes like yours and some black Chinese type ink. If you have a link to get some color pigments, I would prefer to try those like you use. Cheers🎉
Thank you so much for your videos! This is such a beautiful peony painting!💕
I think this is one of the best xiěyì peony paintings I’ve ever seen. Many artists paint very impressive and almost realistic looking peonies but your style is still loosened up and very spontaneous and I think that you follow the calligraphic concept more than some other artists. Thanks for sharing! BTW, do you use a white cloud (白云) brush? At least it looks like one.
@@ZengHuaXiansheng Thanks for your kind words. I am not using a white cloud brush. It’s just a mixed hair brush from a local Chinese art shop.
WOW 😳 amazing 😍 versatile brush strokes ❤🎉 excellent 👌👌👌👌👌 artwork ❤🎉 thankyou so much for nice sharing 🎉🙏🙏
Thank you very much for your wonderful video ❤❤❤ Meihua
Is there a specific side of the paper you should paint on?
@@black_tree_designs2360 You should always paint on the smooth side which is the right side.
Hi Kate! I’ve been watching almost all your videos and is very inspiring for my art!! I want to make chinoiserie art but I’m having a really hard time finding the actual paper, I saw that is mostly painted on something like backed silk but not idea of the name or where I can find it :/
@@thesixthstation8792 I’ve seen silk for paint but not black I think. Let me look it up.
@@thesixthstation8792 Hi, I have looked up silk paper for Chinese painting. There is no black color. Only different shades of gold to bronze color. Please search silk paper 絹紙.
👌💓🎉🎉😊
Very interesting, wonderful! 🐂 Meihua

Please make a tutorial on monkeys
Can you make tutorials on ostrich, pheasant and gharial?
Very good!🎉😂❤
How beautiful! I love painting with oil, this is a whole new world to explore
Fantasticno.
Do you sign your paintings? That would be a really nice addition to this beautiful painting. 💖
So beautiful!!! ❤❤❤
I really love how you catch the essence of the subjects with so few strokes ~ you use the blank space so beautifully! ❤❤ You truly convey so much with so little paint. It's also quite impressive that you really can see everything in your minds eye and then make it come out from your fingers with no sketching or anything!❤❤❤❤
I love ❤ traditional Chinese painting very much.
Thank you very much! ❤
❤🎉😊 excellent 👌 magical powers of brush strokes ❤🎉 amazing 😍🎉 thankyou so much for nice sharing pranaams 🎉
Can you give tutorials on how to paint things such as lizards or snakes in Chinese artstyle ? Can we also paint lions in the artstyle
Amazing
If i have to much ink and i dont have a container to put it in how would you go about storing or disposing of it
I don't reuse ink. If you have a container with lid, that may work. But the best way is to take little ink each time.
@@KateWuArt thank you
It was very skillful and attractive, my friend🫶
Very interesting, thanks! ❤
