On 4 April 2018 I had the best worst day ever. Daniel Thomson and I were having one of the best pow days of our lives in the Lake Louise backcountry when the day suddenly took a turn for the worse. My ski snagged a hidden rock which threw me into the snow - headfirst, directly onto another hidden rock. A friend of mine was lucky enough to win a trip for two which the legendary Chatter Creek had donated to the Banff Movember fundraiser. I was fortunate enough to get the invite to fill the second spot. A lot of recent snow, great stability and insane amounts of incredible terrain made for an unforgettable trip. Here's three minutes from the two days.

It was a strange season weather wise but as long as the Dive is open there'll always be some fun skiing to be found. Here are a few shots from Feb-May. 5 of us hiked up in early May of 1981. Snow was heavier later in the day on our way down so not glorious but terrific Two of us, boot step kicked our way up into the eye and thru. too steep for me to consider skiing. It was a long haul. i am planning hiking up this summer (2024) some 43 years later.

Oh dude, that's brutal, sorry to hear. Even on a good snow year you have to take off quite a bit higher than you think. From below it looks like you can take off lower and snipe the tranny but every time I've hit it I've had to air from higher and land on a flatter bit below the tranny.
Yikes, good to know! When I got to it, there was a bit of a spike down the centre of the launch I had to clear that I was not ready to attempt haha. Was hoping to slide off it kinda like in this video. I’ll definitely be trying again in future seasons, hoping with more snow

Yep. I missed the 22/23 season due to injuries & surgeries but I should be back for the start of next season.

have you skied kanes cliffs at sunjshine. whats the gnarliest line open now at sunshien?
Nope - I think they've been a permanent closure since I've been around the Bow Valley. I'm not sure if there are even any lines that would go enough for me anyway - the cliffs are too big. There's one section where you could maybe link a few pads together but it would be so exposed and sketchy. Gnarliest lines inbounds at SSV now are probably skier's left in Dive and some of the Galaxy entrances.

Back side of Delirium Dive. Spicy area - it's sketchy navigating to the entrance on the cornice and it's a rocky face on a huge avalanche path. You can't really access it anymore since they made Milky Way a permanent closure.

Where is this
Broke my L1 trying a 360 on a small kicker in park, landed on my tailbone and felt force shoot up my back and organs, couldn't move hardly. Was a wedge/burst fracture and S3 too. Did you manage to recover, how is your skiing since? I will probs be 1-2cm smaller😲. You truly love the Rockies looking at your vids...been anywhere else in the world for skiing?
Sorry to hear about your back. How is it now? I recovered really well from mine thanks, all things considered. I'm a bit shorter than I was too but after a couple of years of rehab I felt mostly back to where I was was ski wise. Sadly I'm out of action right now with other injuries. Yeah I have a huge soft spot for the Rockies but I miss skiing in the Alps. I skied in France and Austria a fair bit when I used to live in the UK. I also skied in New England for a season. I haven't skied south of the equator yet sadly.
Not so bad now 6 months on, still a bit stiff and sore at lower back joints and tailbone. Not skied since, it will be interesting... Can't wait to be back on the skiing road with the ikon pass I got today...banff resorts are on it too 😁 will try japow for second time as well🙃

Serious bit of touring through complex terrain with variable snow. Nicely done.
Kinda sick of average skiers (at best) more pre-occupied with holding a GoPro to validate compared to what good skiers actually do while skiing. Oh and put it to some music that they think makes their skiing look better. Video/internet generation I guess.

This guy skied eagle basin couloir, a line which gets skied a few times a year if that, you on the other hand are a loser on the internet that has accomplised nothing and probably never will.
