Optimus No. 00 Stove | Awesome Stove for Bushcraft
The Optimus No.00 is a great stove if you're into vintage gear. It packs down quite small and it's perfect for those who are after something that will stand the test of time. In this video, I take a look at the parts of the stove and show how to assemble it.

    A few years ago I found one in a garage sale. It was never used. The original carton box was completely rotted but the stove was in a super condition. After I have seen this video I’m going try to use it 😊

    What's your wax recipe? I see most people go 2 beeswax : 1 parafin wax, some go 1:1, some even add linseed oil. How does linseed oil affect the wax though?

    Nice lighter 👍 Would interesting to see how it would work in a pinch with alcohol based hand sanitizer. I presume you would need to put more in the tin and it would probably leave more/worse resudue. Something to do if you revisit this one. Thanks

    been experimenting with the esbit alcohol burner cookset. primarly a priming pan for cold weather. so far a lid from a mini altoid tin seems to be the best. reason the lid is only about 3mm deep. like the lid on the gel burner. so if you have a trangia style burner. use the gel burner bottom as a shelf to raise the lid off the cold ground. an heat the alcohol burner above it. been using 15ml fuel in the primer pan.

      it depends on the type of gel. alcohol/ethanol based gel burns at the same btu level as meths, but diethylene glycol based gels burn much hotter.

    Really enjoyed your bushcraft cooking kits and cooking....It's fun to see what dishes , others are making in the bush. My buddy who lived in the UK, told me that no matter what happens...you can't get lost in the UK...cause their are houses everywhere, in the country spread. Someone is bound to give you directions and point you in the right direction... Can't say the same for us in Northern Canada, though...we need a compass My weakness with compass is....I can't figure out how to tell, how hi a tree is , standing 6.6 mtrs (20 ft) from it.

    • @autumnkraft
      @autumnkraft Год назад

      Glad you're enjoying the cooking videos. It's true to a certain extent. The UK is rather largely populated with lots of land built on. Parts of the UK are untouched still, Dartmoor, Brecon beacons, Snowdonia and large parts of Scotland are quite easy to get lost in and many people do each year. Northern Canada is a completely different landscape and like you said much more remote! - Hayden

    • @autumnkraft
      @autumnkraft Год назад

      Also if your compass has a clinometer, you can use that to work out how high the tree is. Hope this helps!

      2:56... with my weather books ...I always have to scribe the variety of KNOTS & terminology with cordage, that are most essential to my camping, *Terminology* Standing ends,Working end, Tail end, loop, bite, etc. *Blanket bundles* ( Canadian Jam knot , ) *Tarp setups* (Truckers Hitch, Jungle knots, Prussik knot, Tensioning Tautline knot, Tensioning hitch knot , ) *Hammock & rain fly set ups* (Bowline knot, figure 8 lashing , Quick Release knot, Truckers Hitch, ) even *Tripod/Bipod knots* (clove hitch, 5x over under wraps, Fraps , )lol ..(ex: Canadian jam knot / truckers hitch / ) You get the idea....there's alot of knots to remember , and I need to scribe , diagram them all in my pocket book .

    • @autumnkraft
      @autumnkraft Год назад

      @@BodolayBotond It's interesting to use. It definitely burns hotter than the alcohol stove. I personally don't see myself using it for actual "cooking", the alcohol stove with the simmer ring is better suited to that. The gel burner is perfect for boiling water though. It's worth checking out!
