Introduction to ToneBrain Audio Processing Interpreter
A quick introduction to the ToneBrain amp and effects modeling language interpreter I built with JUCE this summer 2022. Demonstrates how to declare sliders and option pull downs and how to assign them to simple gain and filter block parameters. Works as plug-in or standalone. Code editor right inside audio plug-in GUI and loads/saves text files from/to other text editors

    It looks like you wired mains "hot" (black) from your inline fuse output to the "in" post of the Carling SPST switch, then the PT black to the "out" of the SPST switch. Is that correct?

    Hi Mark! Thanks for this video! I was seeing the two tone modifications that you made with the two switches located between the volume and input jacks. Can you send me a simple diagram where you made the conections?

    Leo Fender was before his fabulas start of guitar and amp builder a radio technician. That implies working in transmitters (that was the birth of total useless standby switches on guitar amps wich was copyed by every amp builder after Leo) and implies working on receivers and audio (music) amplifiers. In the normal audio amplifier you want no distortion. Even when the volume was maxed there must be no distortion. So in the home audio amps there was a line called negative feedback that made it possible to put the volume on max and still have no distortion. That was for the people in the house. You do not want a radio that give a distorted sound. This changed with the coming of the guitar amps. There is a little till heavy distortion wanted. But Leo did in his first guitar amps still the negative feedback circuit. After a while most guitarist want some distortion and the neg feedback switch was born. For tone it is not changing anything at all. Switching will get you more volume and more distortion. When you simply turn the volume down till the distortion is gone you have exact the same sound as with the negative feedback switched on. So for guitarist the negative feedback is complete useless. Just my 2cent.

    Built one of these as well and will be doing similar mods. Was thinking of making cathode switch between 25uF and 1.5k combo to Marshall .68uF and 2.7k . Was hoping to hear NFB on and cathode cap option but have b7old and hear on mine. Also thinking about Brite cap across volume pot switch. I have a Weber alnico 8s speaker and my customer would like some more briteness option s. Lovely sounds regard less of any mods. Who knew 5w could be so good. Leo did! Cheers

      You have the output transformer wired backwards and you are getting “positive” feedback instead of negative feedback. Reverse the wires going to output jack

    Thanks so much Marc! I had very bad 50 Hz (Europe) plus strong overtones hum on my Champ, depending on the volume knob position. For the moment I just removed the power cables from the switch and connected them (switching the amp on by plugging it in). What remains is a 100 Hz hum, less loud, which I think you do not cover in this video. Thanks again.

    With moving the output transformer off of the chassis, does that create a safety hazard being that the chassis is grounded? Did you end up running a ground wire back to chassis?

    How is that cathode bypass capacitor switch wired? Do you have the center pin of the switch going to the positive voltage end of the cathode resistor, with both capacitors connected to ground on one end, and each capacitor's other end connected to one pole of the switch? or do you have both capacitors connected to the wire that goes to cathode, and then you've got the switch middle pin on ground, and are tying one, the other, or neither capacitor to ground (seems like the latter would be the less expected way of doing this, but I couldn't see closely enough what was going on in there). Also... why did I see 3 polypropylene capacitors side by side in there? Were you combining a few together to get the value of capacitance that you wanted? Thanks!

  • @Honeythebeebee

    Why don't just put the transformer at the other side of the chassis, instead of the bottom of the cab?

    • @StudioDevil1
      @StudioDevil1 3 года назад

      you could do that but it was further away from the coupling and was easier to mount on the wood...but your suggestion is better if you can find a place for it

    • @gregorypinkowski7809
      @gregorypinkowski7809 3 года назад

      @@StudioDevil1 it decreses with the square of the distance, so just a little more distance can make a big difference. So can the orientation of the power transformer and the output transformer, which tend to couple to each other. There is usually even more benefit to moving the power transformer away from everything. Then elevate the heaters and shield the input and everything to the first grid.

    • @lukebaldwin3682
      @lukebaldwin3682 3 года назад

      @@Edlouis564 That's because old amps don't have a bleed resistor on the power supply caps. If you turn off the amp right after playing it still has charge cause capacitors store electric charge. If you leave it off unplugged for an hour or two it will naturally dissipate. Do research and stay safe!

      interesting, but reading the questions of those who see the video it is understood that it would also be necessary to show a schematic diagram on paper where people can see the wiring of the changes and the values of the new components used. Hoping for an unswer, stay safe.
