    Full contact karate punch is with elbow outside as in boxing as most of the modern karate lost relationship with grappling

      That's so true, and a shame that the roots and understanding is lost. My old teacher said there is little point training in Japan and Okinawa ad the old masters are dieing out and the new ones do not understand karate, they understand western karate. A great loss.😢

    Working from finger 4, but how about if the back arm goes behind the attacker's arm and hooks the attacker's arm not own - 2 on 1 variation with pressure on the elbow and shoulder? Typical shown in JJJ and military sambo to isolate 🔪

    You're going for an air choke. Rather teach the blood choke, more of a guarantee. That guy is tapping because he doesn't want a sore throat.

    • @richardgillies9160
      @richardgillies9160 2 месяца назад

      There are three variations of Hadaka Jime depending on how deep your arm goes. The first is as you say a strangle on the cartridge artery and is the basic sleeper hold. Basically you have your arm through and elbow aligned with the chin. The second is you were not able to reach as deep and have your forearm across the trachea and your free arm applies pressure to the forehead to crush down. The third this one is where you can not reach far because they are quick getting their chin down. So you are using just above the wrist. He is tapping because the first thing to do is secure a base, then tighten the noose and finally when you have it tight you pull in and twist your wrist to stretch the trachea. He is not tapping for pain although there is some but because I am effectively crushing the throat. You teach all three that way there is no point at which you can not effectively apply a strangle or choke from a position behind your opponent. If you talk to your teacher they will hopefully show you the choke works not because of the pain but because it effectively shuts off the airway. If it works because of pain maybe seek a better teacher 😀

    • @richardgillies9160
      @richardgillies9160 3 месяца назад

      Because they grab you from the rear on the shoulder to pull/spin you round into a punch. Technically, the move would also counter the punch, but that moves you into a different technique. Here I am just showing how to perform the technique and not the self defence application but you see this all the time in Chinese self defence videos.

      Richard Gillies much appreciated sir, I just think that it’s kind of peculiar that this art is at threat of dying out in some ways. it seems to me that if you don’t have a commercial pair of handcuffs, that this is a GREAT stand-in , that in which you can improvise the use of vines, paracord, electrical cables. Etc.

    What is hojojutsu? Can you practice it some day?

    • @richardgillies9160
      @richardgillies9160 3 года назад

      Hojo Jutsu is the Japanese martial art that covers how to arrest and tie up prisoners. In the past you could not bind Samurai and so the police needed to be able to tie them up without using knots. In some schools there were intricate ways of binding samurai. For non samurai it was a case of the police tieing them quickly and efficiently. Some knots were placed at points on the body to inflict pain if you struggled.

      After 40 years of martial arts I really believe that getting the first couple of As right mean you never need to fight. Martial arts helps you with being assertive and confident which is the third A, and to be honest get the first 3 right and you never get to fighting. I have done this all my life and only needed to fight off an attacker once or twice and when I did it was a wow what did I do there as it was a subconcious reaction. It makes you feel safe wherever you go. I will release a video later today or tomorrow on bullying so if you like this you may like that especially if in school. Thank you for the comment :-) Richard
